I was very disappointed with the care that I received from the night staff at SMMC. The day nurses were wonderful, but there were many times at night where I waited thirty, forty, even an hour for someone to respond to my needs. They made it quite clear that I was being a pain in the butt to them and I didn't appreciate it one bit!

They have a generic call center where if you have a concern it doesn't just go to your nurse it goes to that call center and then they page your nurse. Radiology staff was not effective with dealing w/ Gastric bypass patients (Read my profile for details on this hospital).

Their nursing staff was extremely varied. Some shifts had nurses that were wonderful, caring, concerned and helpful; other shifts had nurses who would allow alarms to go off for 1/2 hour at a time, respond very slowly to calls, show very little compassion, etc. I didn't care for the fact that they insisted on doing testing that wasn't necessary (ie, finger pricks several times daily to check blood sugar, although I've never registered elevated blood sugar levels). It seemed clean and well kept. Overall I would have to say that I'd consider it only average.

They gave me an uncomfortable bed and wouldn't exchange it. I was kept in ICU cause they gave my room away. The ICU staff was rude to my vistors. I had to walk out of the hospital cause they couldn't find a wheelchair. Not a pleasent experience at all.

I can say nothing negative. Great nursing staff, excellent surgery experience. Clean, sanitary conditions.

Any time I needed anything I rang, they answered and my need was met. All the nurses, dieticians, RT, PT, and of course Dr. Hoehn are wonderful. Very happy with this hospital stay.

RNs very competent; Kept giving me gowns that would cover a volkswagon: too big, depressing, kind of insulting.
Nurses station very noisy at night.

Very gracious, could have had more nursing focus on fundamentals (turning, deep breathing, making sure IV and suction pump worked.

Everyone was so kind and friendly to me. I had a private room so I didn't have to worry about a roommate.
