Shawnee Mission Medical Center Hospital
I am so impressed with the extensive training I recieved as a patient before surgery. It took several months to complete psycology, coronary, pulmonary, nutrition classes, etc. They went all out to be sure I was ready and fully prepared emotionally, physically, and even spiritually. The support group is fantastic. I highly recommend this hosp. and their program.
Didn't have essential needed equipment
Tet hose for large patients. Nurses lack of knowledge. First shot of heparin in arm, not in abb. as should been done. Pain meds not obtained as needed- nurse didn't check to calibrate machine when pt. transfered to the room. Only walked 1x in am 1 day post op. Pt. died of P.e. around 5pm. Nurse didn't evaluate Pt. as he was dying, didn't check for pulse or even to see if he was breathing- was just trying to get him into his bed. He was probably dead for at least 5 minutes before cpr was started. No pt. evaluation, just thought he'ld be ok if they got him in his bed.
I had the BEST care! My nurses and assistants were so helpful and were ready with suggestions on how to help me relax. Lynda McDonald's, the Bariatric Coordinator, office was right on the same floor as I was and she was very accessible to answer any of my questions, no matter how embarrassing. I'm grateful for the level of care and understanding that I received from all of the folks who took care of me!
