Shawnee Mission Medical Center Hospital

Nurses were terrible... they pretty much didn't care if I was uncomfortable or not. I also 99.9% sure that a couple of them would give a hoot if I had died.

Everyone was SO nice and SO accomodating. I had difficulty with the first room I was in due to the other woman in the room, but that issue was resolved in a timely manner by moving me to another room. The staff appeared very knowledgeable and very able to handle my needs after surgery.

I think SMMC. They were - as usual - polite, helpful, careful, and considerate.

To start off with, the hospital gown I was given was to small in the arms, and didnt wrap around completely around me, and when I asked to go to the bathroom and mentioned the gown was to small, I was told to wrap the sheet around me, and walk past several patients who were also waiting in the out-patient surgery waiting area. That was embarrassing. I felt that the nurse I had didnt understand the needs of over-weight patients.
After surgery, while I was still under the after-effects of the anasthesia, I told the nurse I was very nauseous and was having dry heaves. Her response "You need to get dressed and go home" After repeating to her that I was very sick to my stomach and the heaves were causing excrutiating pain, she again told me to get dressed and go home, without even offering any kind of anti-nausea med or conferring with my Doctor. I was still having very painful dry heaves as I was being pushed out the front door. Talk about your assembly line hospital!! I hope I never have reason to utilize SMMC again, even if I have to go out-of-network with my insurance!!

I have had previous experience with this hospital with other issues and they have been good the only thing I don't like is their ER Dept.

I had an unusual situation and the nurse was warm and caring. I appreciated her support prior to surgery.

I was really dreading going back to this hospital for my plastic surgeries following weight loss but was greatly relieved to find the plastic surgeon was now practicing at a different hospital.

everyone was very helpful and always took you to the place you needed not just giving you instructions

I was not in the Hospital for WLS, (YET) But my experience was great.

ICU nursing staff was excellent and the pre-surgery process was great. The volunteers should be commended for the work they do in keeping families informed of statuses and escorting.
