Little Company of Mary (COE) Hospital
Dr Cahill seems very nice. I was comfortable from the start and the more we talked, the more comfortable I became. Donna is wonderful and never made my multiple phone calls seem like a nuisance. April 2003-- Even at 6 months out and a 75 pound loss so far, I still feel the same. I do not regret my decision at all. Dr Cahill, Tony, Donna and Mary are just as supportive as ever. They even look excited to see me when I am in the office and at support group. A team effort all the way!!!!!
Dr. Cahill is one of the most professional doctors I have had the pleasure of meeting.
He is very honest about surgery and expects his patients to be well informed about the surgery and potential risks envolved. He emphasizes aaftercare program. Itis the best that I have seen from the several doctors I researched.
He also WILL NOT chance your health... I have first hand experience with that! I was supposed to have surgery 4/7/03, and woke up with a allergic reaction to something (I am still not to sure what caused it). I was hooked up to the iv, waiting for surgery when he made the decision to wait. We rescheduled the surgery for a little over a week later. He wanted me to be it top shape for the surgery, and absolutely did not want to risk my health. As he said, the surgery is risky enough, there is no reason to add even more risk to it. I was disappointed, but also felt even more secure in my choice of doctors. I knew I was in the best hands possible. As I told my husband, there is a reason he has such a great reputation.
His staff have been WONDERFUL to me... Tony is very personable, and seems to always make me laugh. Evem when he is making me get up and walk.
Mary is sweet all of my interactions with her have been positive.
DONNA has been a LIFESAVER for me... I have waited for over a year to get this surgery approved. I have gone through 3 different insurance companies, and while each WOULD approve me, they WOULD NOT approve me having it through Dr. Cahill. Donna has with me through every step of the way. She has laughed with me, and felt my disappointment. Dr. Cahill has a gem in her!
Overall Dr. Cahill on a list of 1-10 are 100!
My first impression of Dr. Cahill was none other than professional and thourough. He was very informative, supportive, and thourough. The office staff at Dr. Cahill's office was very helpful and kind. Dr. Cahill is strict, but has a 0 mortality rate when it comes to this surgery. Dr. Cahill is strict with aftercare and has staff that follows up often. He was very straight forward in the risks of this surgery and even more so with what would happen if the program was not followed. If I was to rate Dr. Cahill on a scale from 1-10, he is a 10. He was both competent and had a great bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Cahill was great, he appeared to a very concerned and not judgemental person. He assured me that I would do very well if I had the surgery. He told me not to worry about the insurance approval, he did not think it would be a problem. The office is a wonderful asset to Dr. Cahill the are supportive and work well together.I highly Dr. Cahill and his staff.
I have had a really difficult time finding a surgeon. I found Dr. Cahill on this site. I immediately liked Dr. Cahill. He is very easy to talk to and the office was furnished with the larger patient in mind. His office staff is extremely helpful. One thing I liked is there is the aftercare I felt that was missing at Dr. Frantzides. There is a support group in Tinley Park, which isn't very far from me. Ten days before surgery you must attend a pre-admission teaching class. There will be a dietitian there that will tell you what and how to eat just a after surgery. I believe this is about a 2 hour meeting and there are other things covered. After surgery you are required to attend another teaching class that gives you the information that you need for after surgery. Dr. Cahill also requires you to sign a contract that you will attend monthly support meetings for at least the first year after surgery, you will participate in an exercise program, and you will take vitamins and supplements, ect. I was also impressed that Dr. Cahill realized that I was on premphase and told me he couldn't do the surgery for at least one month after I quit taking them do to blood clot problems. The other 2 Doctors I had already seen didn't catch that.
This next paragraph is about the second Doctor I saw. Dr. Cahill is the third Doctor I have seen for this surgery. I liked Dr. Frantzides. I had already gone to a seminar on Obesity Surgery so I already had many of my questions answered. I did bring a list of other questions and he was very patient and answered every one. His assistant Kathleen is very busy, but I think she does her best to be helpful. I am a little concerned about the aftercare. I had gone to the Wish Center for surgery and was very impressed with their aftercare. I couldn't have surgery there because of insurance. I don't think the aftercare here is very structured. All I have heard about at this point is that a dietitian will see me in the hospital. I was given a Gastric Bypass Diet, a 6-page hand out with the foods I will be able to eat after surgery. The handout has the dietitians' name and phone number on it with the instructions to make an appointment with her within the first two weeks after surgery. I would think it would be important to see her before surgery. I haven't had surgery yet so maybe I am wrong. There really wasn't any discussion on exercise before or after surgery. They do have a support group that meets once a month. Dr. Frantzides says the risk is minimal. He said that he makes all patients walk the very first day after surgery to stop blood clots from forming. I have a lot of confidence in his surgical ability. BCBS would not approve Laparoscopic surgery they will only approve open. I found this out after I had already had all my pre surgery medical testing done. I had a surgery date March 31st with Dr. Frantzides which Kathleen immediately cancelled. I just about cried when she told me that Dr. Frantzides would not do an open bypass.
Dr. Cahill and his staff were great! They made me very comfortable each time we talked. Dr. Cahill was very through and detailed. I didn't leave his office with any questions. The office staff was always friendly and easy to talk to.The team at litte company of mary has an aftercare program that is greatly stressed, and I am looking forward to my first meeting. Both the bed side manner and the surgical competence were great. Even the gerneral nurses on the floor were wonderful. Overall I give my team a 10!
Dr. Cahill was an awesome doctor. He was at the hospital in Belvidere when I had my surgery, then he left a short time afterwards. He was very sweet and really showed an interest in all his patients. It was very sad when he left because he did not get to see my end results. I really liked him alot. He explained everything to me in great detail, he explained all the risks of having the surgery. He met with me on several occasions before and he really kept up with me until he left the hospital. I would rate him a 10, as far as great doctors go. I cannot say anything negative about him because he did nothing wrong at all with me. I felt extremlly comfortable with him at all times. Believe me, if something went wrong, everyone would know about it.

1/11/02 Met with Dr Cahill today and the man packs a terrific first impression. I found him to be comfortable to talk with, not at all condescending as sometimes is the case with doctors. He was very open to and, I believe, almost pleased, that I had questions to ask and he took the time to address each of them. He sent me home with literature, as well as a book written by a WLS patient. I met Dr Cahill's surgical nurse, Tony, at a support group meeting last week. I'd spoken with him on the phone prior and knew I'd like him. I was right. Donna was very kind as well. I think my experience with this group of professionals is going to be a good one. As my experiences with the Doctor and his staff continue, I'll update this area.
