Dekalb Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Scott Steinberg at DeKalb Medical Center is a very sensitive, truly caring surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic procedures, such as lap RNY and the lapband. He has both a wonderful bedside manner and a true gift as a surgeon. He did a full year of residency focusing exclusively on lap WLS before he came to work with Dr. Sidney Appel. Dr. Appel is a bit rougher around the edges, but his reputation as a WLS specialist preceeds him. Dr. Appel assists in Dr. Steinberg's surgeries, and vice versa. These are surgeons of the highest caliber, and I cannot praise their talents enough.rnrnThe doctors require that all patients see a nutritionist and are cleared by psychologist Dr. Stephen Ritz, who also runs the practice's support group. Many patients attend in the support group meetings and/or participate in the the online support group. The surgeons are very concerned with their patients' long-term WLS success and strongly emphasize aftercare. They are highly ethical and responsible. rnrnThe staff is sometimes overwhelmed by the demand for these highly recommended surgeons, but they do their best. The wait for a surgery date is generally within a month after insurance approval, but Dr. Steinberg is well worth any wait.
Dr Steinburg was a wonderful surgeon. His staff is very caring and supportive. He was a wonderful bedside manner and a genuine concern for his patients. I was previously with another physician and was not happy with the way his office functioned. Upon the recommendation of a friend that worked in the healthcare field and had another surgical procedure by Dr Steinberg I contacted his office- mind you I had already been turned down by the insurance company once because the other doctors office did not subimt all the required paperwork- they scheduled me for a consult, had me see the pulmonologist and some lab work done and resubmitted the paperwork and I was approved w/ in weeks. They are awesome. If anyone in the metro-atlanta area is looking for a surgeon for gastric by-pass surgery, I would recommend Dr Steinberg hands down. I had the procedure @ 10 am was out of surgery/recovery by 1:30pm and was up and walking at around 4-5 pm. Dr Steinberg said I was th classic patient but I could not have been without the best doctor. He is wonderful~
I was so impressed by the kindness of everyone from the admiting staff to the nurses that took care of me. Everyone had a smile on their faces, a sweet tone in their voices, and never once made me feel bad or judged for having the surgery. In fact, they were all very encouraging. One nurse told me I was going to be a knock-out! All of the nurses, and aids (techs) were kind and compassionate. If I ever have to go to the hospital again, I think it will be this one...by choice this time.
My husband and I asked for a private room so he could spend the night with me and they were able to do that.
My husband and I requested a private room so he could stay the night and they did that for us. That was so great.
Dr. Steinberg is a great surgeon. Very responsive to your needs and caring. The office staff is great. Very organized and detailed oriented. The initial consult I had with the staff was informative. My first preoperative visit with Dr. Steinberg was informative and he sat down with me and answered any and all the questions I had concerning the surgery. I would refer him to anyone that is interested in having bariatric surgery. He gets an 11 on a scale from 1-10!
He was very nice and seemed very caring. His office staff is very nice and polite. He went through everything I needed to do before the surgery and made sure that both myself and my husbands questions were all answered.
I thought he had excellent bedside manners.
I have done three years of research, so I have had very little questions, regarding the surgery.
