I had a great experience at DeKalb Medical Center. Although my insurance called for a double room, they provided a single. The nurses and techs were friendly and attentive. An overall good experience.

I was originally scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Sidney Appel. He was to do an open RNY, however, my pcp suggested that I may want to look into having the procedure done lap. She said the recovery time is better and there are less complications. I knew Dr. Appel only did RNY open and I did not want to start the process all over again with another doctor. I was this site one day, and I saw a reference to Dr. Scott Steinberg. They said he worked with Dr. Appel and he does the RNY lap. I called and made my apptmnt right away. I met Dr. Steinberg 6/6/03. He took his time and answered all my questions. He said he would try and do my surgery lap and the only thing that may prevent it being lap is if my liver is too large. He assured me that he would try his best to do my procedure laparscopicly. He also explained that Dr. Appel would be assisting him and if the surgery had to be done open, Dr. Appel would be the one who did it. I felt good about Dr. Steinburg. He was very knowlegeable, kind and empathetic. My surgery was scheduled while I waited for the date I requested. I left there a lot less worried and anxious to start my new journey.

Post Op:
I want to say something about my surgeon Dr. Steinberg. When I first met him he seemed young and I was worried about his experiecne level. He seemed unsure if he would be able to do me lap because my bmi was so high and most of my weight was on my stomach and hips. He was always honest and very easy to talk to. The first day of my surgery 7/10/2003, he talked to me and my family and they liked him instantly. He seemed very kind and reassuring. After my surgery was cancelled due to a bad storm that knocked out the power i felt even more so that he was looking out for me. The day of my surgery (7/18/2003 the second date), I felt so reassured when I saw him some in the room. He talked to me before surgery and even then told me if he couldnt do it lap then we would just do it open. i woke up in the recovery , hardly any pain, looked down and only a few little bandaids. My recovery so far has been uncomplicated and alomst pain free. Dr. Steinberg is the best. When I see him at post op I am going to hugs his neck. God gave me the right doctor for me, he was perfect. Dont let experience scare you away from what may be the best doctor for you. Dr. Apel is a wonderful doctor but Dr. Steinberg was and is the man for me!! Thank you Dr. Steinberg!

After my post-op visit:

Well, I still think he is wonderful, caring and the best doctor ever. I saw him on 8/4/2003. He listened to me rattle on and on and on about my post op experiences. He offered great suggestions and eased my worries over things that were normal. I cannot say enough about Dr. Steinberg. I would recommend him to anyone, he is fantastic!!

I met with Dr. Stienburg on Friday 3/28 and the staff were wonderful and concerned...I sat and explained what all had happened during my journey. I even summoned my records from the prior surgeons office for his immediate review. I was told that the request for approval would be sent immediately on Monday...The main thing I picked up on is that the staff ( especailly) Sheryl) was OUTSTANDING...The Coordinator, Kathy was so kind....Im pleased with everything thus far...Dr. Stienburg was so very very kind and listened to my plea...
Im sold....You should go and meet this professonal...

Dr. Steinberg is a very nice Doctor who is very helpful with information. He brought the lap-band to the Atlanta area even though I am getting the RNY\LAP, He explained to me all my options and has been avialabe to talk when I need to! For those who are here in Atlanta I recommened Dr. Steinberg!!

I had been researching this procedure for about 1 and 1/2 years before making the decision to have this procedure. My mind was made up when I finally talked to my mom's friend Bell told my of Dr. Appel and the new doctor he had on his team, Dr. Scott Steinburg. My first initial fear was that he was so young. My fear was squashed after he spoke at the first meeting.

I could not have asked for a better staff. They always got back with you on a timely basis and made sure the insurance company was in line if problems arose.

Future patients should know that If I ever had to go through this again, Dr. Steinberg would be my first choice. Dr. Appel who is the best would only select the best.

Aftercare was a part of the pre-op program which was done a dietician and informative from point A-Z with paperwork for you to read and follow. It entailed menus for your daily regiment.

All of the risks of surgery were given with no punches held back. All questions no matter what they were, were answered in their entirety.

I would rate Dr. Steinberg an 11 on a scale of 1-10.

Both surgical competence, bedside manner were great, but keep in mind I am more concerned with surgical competence

There was nothing I disliked about Dr. Steinberg. He was honest and confident in his abililty. He was always willing to answer any questions I had.

He was extremely knowledgeable about the laproscopic Roux En-Y. I finally had my surgery after being approved the first try. My surgery was done this past Monday, February 24, 2003. I feel wonderful and was up and walking the same day I came out of surgery.

My husband is the most supportive and amazing man any woman could ever have. He was at my side from beginning to end. He makes sure I am doing what I am supposed to do even when I do not want to. I love him unconditionally.

My daughter who is almost 5 is truly looking out for me with my breathing and rubbing my back.

I have my week post-op appointment on Wednesday, March 4, 2003. I will keep you posted.
