Dekalb Medical Center Hospital
Dr. Rashid was an excellent surgeon. My first impression was a good one being that she did conduct the wellness seminar. The office staff was awesome. They were really helpful and supportive especially the coordinator Lolita Pompey. She was phenomenal!! They made sure I was well aware of what I was about to get into.
I initially had my consult with Dr. Hobson. A couple of days later I found out that my surgery would be done by Dr. Rashid. My first impression of both surgeons were very favorable. They both were very patient and informed as I had tons of questions. They both took time to answer all my questions and addressed my fears regarding surgery putting me more at ease. The office staff were ok. I was really impressed with Dr. Rashid's bedside manner - it was great. She came to talk with me prior to surgery and again once I had been moved to my room and yet again prior to my release the next day. I've heard stories of people not seeing their actual surgeon again once the surgery had been performed. The nursing staff were not exceptional but they did their jobs - I have no complaints.
I don't know a whole lot about her. I haven't met her yet. I'm really excited, but kind of nervous, I'll start updating after I meet her on July 23rd.rnrn--update--rnrnDr. Rashid was very informative and quite friendly. She went over pertinent information about the surgery and the specific, lifelong changes I would have to make post-op. She also asked me what my goals were. Then she asked me why I wanted the RNY as opposed to the Lap Band. I liked that she expected me to really think about my decision; she cared about whether or not I was properly educated about my options. She also showed me where my incisions would be at. She wasn't warm and fuzzy, but I don't have any major complaints. I do wish we could have talked a little longer, but that was more my fault than hers.
I've been referred to Dr. Duncan's office. After my informational session on June 30th, I will update this to let you guys know my thoughts about the office visit.rnrn***Update*** the information session was good. Dr Duncan was out getting some plastic surgery knowledge...a fellow or something or another...anyhow Dr. Rashid was very nice and knowledgeable.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. Steinberg, he is one of the best Surgeons I have ever met. He has genuine love and concern for his patients. You are not just a number, nor are you just money to him. Your success is his success and that is what I love about him.rnrnI have used Dr. John Maguire as my Revision surgeon. He has performed a revision to a DS for me on 6/4/07. He comes highly recommended and rated amongst his patients.
I was extremely impressed by Dr. Steinberg and his staff. They are sooo nice. They took the time to answer my questions and my fears....If they said that they were going to call you, you can bet they will.rnThere are 2 things that frustrated me (but I understand why they do it)--having to go to yet another seminar (I had been to 3 prior to this one) and all of the releases--psych, cardio, pulmonary, GP, dental, dietician.rnrnTheir aftercare program is really very structured, the meal options (do's & don't) are spelled out, there are support groups as well as individual support.rnrnI am scheduled for my gastric bypass for next Thrusday, May 31. I will let you know more as I do.
Dr. Steinberg was my Lapband surgeon. He is a wonderful surgeon. He is always willing to answer every one of my list of a zillion questions before and after the surgery. He has wonderful bedside manners. His office staff was very helpful in getting all my paperwork together; therefore, it only took my insurance three days to give an approval. He is very big on aftercare. Do not just get the band and then disappear....we all need follow-up to see if we need it filled more or not. After reading other drs. requirements for surgery before surgery, I am so glad I chose Dr. Steinberg. He is one of the best in the Atlanta area.
Dr. Steinburg is amazing! He is confident and caring. He has a marvelous bedside manner and made me feel completly at ease about what I was about to do to myself. I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone!! His office staff is also superb, they are very kind and work hard to get approval for you. I am so pleased with the whole process. Also Dekalb Medical Center nurses were absolutely phenominal...everyone really...they all had a smile on their faces coming into your room, they all had a pleasant tone in their voices, and never passed one bit of judgement. That was important to me.
Met with him for first time since group meeting on October 19,2005. He seemed very nice and friendly. I was really grateful because he let my husband and son come back with me. It allowed my husband to ask his own questions about the surgery which relieved some of his worries. I really appreciated this because he didn't have to let my son in the office. The staff are very nice, but they are really busy so they seem to be in rush to get off the phone with you. Ah well, I see so many reports on obesity these days I guess business is booming. He explained everything really well, but first he wanted to know about how much of the surgery I was familar with. He quickly discussed pre and post op diet. He prefers natural cleaning out process of two days clear liquid diet before surgery and then for two weeks after surgery. I haven't had surgery yet. Will keep posted.
