Cape Fear Valley Bariatrics Program Hospital
CAPE FEAR VALLEY HOSPITAL-This was my first time dealing with them other than the emergency room two times for my sons who had injury’s from a car accident and a wrestling injury. They had me into pre-op and ready for surgery in no time at all, while still looking out for my family and ensuring that they were aware of what was going on the entire time. Once I got up to my room I had the best nursing care I have ever seen or could have asked for. They were always there asking if I needed anything, they gave me excellent care and were so cheerful and positive about my procedure. They also took great care to see that my family was comfortable the whole time and understood what was going on. I would not hesitate to recommend Cape Fear Valley Hospital for anyone.
The first time I saw Dr. Classen was at the seminars he and his associate give on weight loss surgery. Dr. Classen was very well informed and also very upfront about the complications that could happen. I liked this alot as I wanted to know everything about this surgery. When I had my surgery I waited in the holding area for a long while. Dr. Classen was ready to do the surgery and came and got me himself!!! He didn't like the fact they were making us wait so long and said so himself. On my second follow up visit I was upset that he didn't take alot of time with me, but on my last follow up he was wonderful. I guess we all have our good and bad days!!! I feel Dr. Classen is a great surgeon and I really would not have wanted anyone else to do this procedure. The staff at Village Surgical are always friendly and Donna is one of the sweetest persons I've ever met. Over all I am very happy with Dr. Classen and feel his surgical competence is outstanding!!!
Dr.Classen is a wonderful doctor. Even though
I had complications and he had to go back in I would recommend him highly. He took time to sit and explain everything and ask it we had any questions. The other day I got really sick feeling called the office spoke with the nurse and he called me back a little later to tell me what to do. I thought that was very nice. On a scale from 1 to 10 he gets a 10! Thank you Dr. Classen
The staff are friendly but not efficient. The efficiency is not really an issue though b/c I know the staff have many patients. However, I found the nurses did not check the doctors orders before coming to see me in the morning and I had to tell them what the doctors said. Also, I had to tell the nurses to hook up the leg air compression pillows (automatically inflate to help circulation), they did not get me up the first night, and they just put the spirometer in the room and did not instruct my mother on how to use it or how often and I was so "doped up" on morphine I was not even aware it was there. These are three very important things after surgery. My last complaint was the day of checkout (10/22/03) I had to tell the nurse the Dr. said I could go (again she did not check the orders), they did not know how to take out the drain so they had to call someone (no biggy), but after all the paperwork was done and I was discharged I had to wait an hour for a wheelchair. I finally had to call patient services and complained, attempted to call a wheelchair myself but no one answered, finally I went to the nurses station and asked them what the hold up was they said "transportation" was busy and did not know why. They asked if I felt like I could walk own my own!! I told them I had bags that I could not lift. Two nurses came in took my bags and I WALKED OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!!!!!!!!
I had my consult w/ Dr. Classen today, 9-29-03. He was awesome!! He explained everything to me even though I had been through the process and was very familiar w/ the surgery. He was very pleasant. His staff was also polite, courteous, and very efficient.
I actually work at this hopital, so I know it is good hospital. I felt like the staff didn't really know much about the surgery. Not one person asked my how I felt about the surgery. They came in took a look at my incisions, and left. I think that I would have asked the person how they decided to have this surgery. Just so I knew a little about them. But I guess they were busy. I was just another patient. It took the day shift nurse quite a while to bring me my meds for pain. We didn't bond. But all and all I had agood experience. I had an excellent MD. Great Nurse asst.
