California Pacific Medical Center (COE) Hospital

My first day was awful - - crammed into a small room with a woman who had constant visitors, calls, and I was right next to the nurses station so I couldn't get any sleep. I asked to be moved to a private room and they said I was fortunate and I moved there - - could see the window, could sleep, was much cooler and comfortable and much more private. After that I was very pleased.

Many of the nursing staff did not speak English, so I did not feel that I was properly understood at times. The attention to my hygiene, which I could not take care of myself, was horrible. I was dirty and stinky the whole time I was there, but I did not have the energy to demand a shower and I was afraid I would be left to my own in the shower. I did not have any complications for which I feel very fortunate.

Very impressed by the hospital. They were very committed to making sure I was fully informed about the procedures. Everyone was very respectful and supportive. The care was very personal - my operating room nurse gave me a hug and told me not to worry just before I got on the table! Because many of the staff members had worked with bariatric surgery patients before they offered a lot of encouragement.
