Wish me luck!! rn
rn
rn~UPDATE~15 August 02--I had my date pushed back to the 15th to be able to secure a PCP, which I did. On the 15th, there was a \"class\" that 10 of us attended together to learn about the surgery and what to expect. The office staff were very nice and I felt very comfortable there. Everyone was smiling and the lady who gave the class was very funny and personable. I am convinced that I made the right decision about using Dr. Duncan as my surgeon.rn
rn
rn~UPDATE~ I was approved for surgery on the 7th of January, and I have a surgery date of 19 May...and a pre-op appointment with Dr. Duncan on the 8th. I'll report again after this appointment :-)rn
rn
rn~UPDATE~ My pre-op appointment with Dr. Duncan was moved up to April 24th...so I have had the opportunity to meet with him and hear him speak on bariatric surgery. Can I just say OMG??? If I had ANY reservations before, I don't now. He is funny, handsome, competent and knowledgeable (not to mention down to earth) and I feel 100% confident in his skills as a WLS and feel I have absolutely made the right decision in choosing him for this procedure. I feel so strongly about this, that if I had to wait another year to have the surgery with him, I would. Plus, his staff is top notch. Everyone was very personable and made me feel right at home. In his lecture to the group, I found out some things that I was not aware of before. Unlike other surgeons, he doesn't have a \"cookie cutter\" approach to the size of your pouch. In other words, he doesn't have a standard size he makes for everyone. Instead, he customizes it to the individual and bases the size on the amount of weight you need to lose. Also, when speaking with him one-on-one, I learned that he now bypasses more than he used to. He said that he used to bypass 50-75cm and now bypasses anywhere from 120-150cm because he has found that this helps not only in achieving greater loss, but also helps in the long term success of keeping it off. I couldn't agree more and am excited about this. I was worried about being too proximal. I also clarified the fact that he DOES trans-sect the pouch for all the reasons we have discussed on this forum...it prevents SLD and is a more permanent solution to weight loss. All in all, the day went very well and I'm very excited about having this procedure. If anyone who may be reading this wants to talk with me or ask any questions not covered here, please feel free to email me.

I MET DR. DUNCAN ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO. MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF HIM WAS HE NOT JUST FOR THE MONEY HE REALLY CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLES OVER ALL HEALTH. HE HAD NICE FUNNY STORIES TO TELL. HE WAS VERY INFORMITIVE. I TOLD MY GIRLFRIEND THAT WENT WITH ME \"GIRL HE HAS NICE HANDS\".HE ALSO DONE HER'S AYEAR AGO. I WENT UP THERE WITH HER. HIS WHOLE STAFF WAS EXCELLENT HOSPITAL STAFF. HE HAS A FLOOR IN HOSPITAL JUST FOR HIS PATIENTS.THE NURSES WERE SO NICE AND HELPFUL.
I GIVE CREDIT TO ALL AT PEACHTEE SURGICAL THEY WORK AS A TEAM AND APPRCIATE EVERTHING THEY HAVE DONE FOR ME DR HOBON ACTUALLY DID MY FIRST SURGERY DR DUNCAN AND DR EJAIH DID THE SECOND DR DUNCAN DID THE THIRED AND DR HOBSON DID THE 4TH SO THEY ALL WORK AS A TEAM AND MADE ME BETTER THEY ARE A GREAT BUNCH OF SURGEONS AND IM PROUD THAT I CHOOSE THEM
I have not met Dr Duncan, I met one of his associates, Dr Fields. She was different from what I expected. She was dry, quiet and really had no info to offer me. I was left feeling incomplete after she left out of the exam room. On the other had, the rest of the staff was great. The medical asst was great, the receptionist was wonderful. I would rather deal with Dr Duncan himself, than Dr. Fields. We shall see what happens after the next meet.
I didn't see Dr. Duncan but a couple of times in a group setting until he came by my hospital room post-op to check on me. He's very professional yet personal enough for comfort. I had a difficult time getting someone on the phone post-op to answer some questions and tell me if I needed to come in to the office. I was thoroughly frustrated after being put on hold for over 40 minutes total. After that, my hubby called and seemed to be helped immediately. The appointments were mostly all in a group setting, which I liked- because I got to meet some people and they had other questions than I didn't think of. From what I understand, Dr.Duncan is changing this because some people thought it was impersonal. Unfortunately, this is going to make the process of getting in to see him a lot longer. The office staff made sure that all patients knew the risks of surgery. Overall, I thought Dr.Duncan, Dr. Hobson and the staff of Peachtree Surgical was top-notch.
