Dr.Duncan and his office staff are awesome.
He is very upfront and direct. He takes his time to address all your questions and concerns. He stresses the importance of the support group meetings, and post op appointments. Anytime I have called his office, my concerns where always addressed promptly. I could not have asked for a more caring, compassionate physican. I feel that he literally saved my life. Today I am 11months post op and have lost 165lbs. I have 67lbs to meet my personal goal. He truely is a God Send. From my first impression, and thur my journey my feeling has never changed, he truely is the very best in his field.

I was very impressed with Dr. Miller/Dr. Duncan office. Thier office atmosphere is comfortable and all staff is knowledgable of the surgery and what is needed to make you feel comfortable.

So far Dr. Duncan and his office staff are complete God sends!!! Joyce did the insurance and was always available to help me. Never had a problem getting her to call me back. Dr. Duncan does the group thing for pre-op and for your first consultation. He answers all you questions and is very caring. The thing that impressed me most was that he held my hand in the O.R. until I fell asleep because I was terrified and told me everything would be just fine. He said he'd see me 6hours after surgery and sure enough he was there right on time. I had already made myself get up and walk a couple of hours earlier. He has a rather strict program to follow but it's all because he wants you to succeed w/ no complications. I give him and his office an A++ so far.( the only thing I could really say was kinda bad was not knowing I'd be in atlanta all day for pre-op ..got there at 9 left well after 4)

Dr. Duncan comes very highly recommended and I am very impressed by what I have seen and heard. I didn't like having to wait so long for an appointment (approved 7/02- surgery date 12/4/02) but I would rather have peace of mind going into surgery than have it done more quickly and my family having to suffer. I like the fact that he only does lap surgeries. I do not want the risk of being opened up. I think that this also proves his skill as a lap surgeon because the only reason he would not be able to perform surgery by lap is because of previous scar tissue. I had some concerns because I had never actually met him or talked with him and did not expect to do so until my pre-op appt. I recently had the opportunity to meet him. I was very impressed with him and found out he is a real person. I have always felt bedside manner was important and from what I heard, if you ever saw him and talked to him he had a great bedside manner. However, because he is so busy, chances are you might not get to see him or talk with him until you pre-op. I was not sure how I felt about that. I am now 4 weeks away from my surgery and I am so thankful that I have waited. I still feel bedside manner is important for a doctor that I will see for the rest of my life. However, for this surgery, having the best lap doctor for a successful surgery is more important. Even though I will be eternally grateful to him, knowing him and sitting down and talking with him is somehow not as high on my priority list as having peace that I will make it through my surgery. I have more confidence in Dr. Duncan every day.

I met Dr. Duncan a couple of years ago when a friend had surgery (not WLS) - we waited in the room - with boxes of ice cream sandwiches - we shared them with Dr. Duncan another Dr. They said they had never been to a room serving ice cream sandwiches. This was all before I had even heard of WLS. When I realized who he was - I was tickled to learn it was the same Dr. who we had shared Ice Cream Sandwiches with. Anyway - I was approved in 3 days from UHC - I have my Pulmonary Clearance today - just need the endoscopy for acid reflux. I was hoping surgery would be done at the latest - Christmas of this year - now I have a tentative date of March 2003. I cannot believe it takes this long. But I have and believe in an almighty God and if He can make a way - I will have the surgery done before then end of the year - I hope so - beacuse our insurance changes at the end of December - I would hate to go through the approval rigors again.

Dr. Duncan' staff is most helpful - I am sure they are swamped everyday by "pains'in the butt like me" calling and trying to make things happen faster. I am learning patience - that is tough for me!

As for the ppwk, classes etc.. I think it is wonderful - Dr. Duncan/staff want to make sure people know what they are in for and the outcomes of this life changing tool he can provide. I was very pleased.

I will post more - post surgery and share bedside manner etc.

My first impression of Dr. Duncan was that he was awesome. I did a lot of research on not only the surgery, but on doctors who did the surgery in my area, which is Atlanta. I found some disturbing information on one and was so glad that I took the time to do pleanty of research on the doctors. My initial impression has never changed on Dr. Duncan, nor his staff. He is very much in demand, as a result now they are scheduling surgery into Feb and Mar of 2003, but it is worth the wait. Because of my work schedule I had to reschedule twice, and finally succeeded in my 3rd date. They always say the 3rd time is the charm and believe me it was. He and his staff are very very busy, but always made time for me and for my many, many questions before and after surgery. I just can't say enough good things about his staff. I know that people get very excited about "their own" surgery, and sometimes they have to stop and realize that although it is the most "important thing in their life at the moment", you have to remember they have literally hundreds of calls everyday and everyone wants to think that they are the "most important call of the day"...not once was I made to feel unimportant, or that my question was dumb. On somedays it took longer to get a call back, but I always got one. Dr. Duncan stresses aftercare very much. He reminds you time and again, that this is not a "miracle" surgery. You have to do your part in learning how to eat different, take care of yourself, NEVER forget to take your vitamins, and to exercise. I have to be truthful and say that the exercise part was probably hardest for me to get started on, but it is now a part of my life forever. Dr. Duncan was very good about explaining the risks of surgery to me. I understood exactly what I was getting into and the risks involved. I would rate him as the "Best" that I could find. In my opinion, bedside manner is not always great with a lot of doctors, but with Dr. Duncan his is right up there with the best, and I have to say in all my research before my surgery I did not find one person with complaints about the surgery he performed. That said a lot to me. Having a doctor who not only made me feel good about the surgery, his ability and the fact that his bedside manner was so good that I feel like I hit the jackpot when I chose him.

First I would like to thank Paulette Cloud who is a Nurse Practioner , who i am crazy about. She is the one who referred me to Dr. Duncan. I liked Dr. Duncan the first time we met.He gave me hope that this surgery would help. The staff is wonderful, positive and encouraging.I will be followed up by Dr. Duncn for the next two years.Which I like, I feel like this surgery is a lifetime change and should not be taken lightly.I feel his surgical competence was what made me decide to choose him.

Dr. Duncan is a true professional. I was very impressed on my first consult as to the thoroughness of his routine. His office staff is the greatest. I have all confidence in Dr. Duncan and know that I will do great under his care. Future patients should know that he is serious and if you do not follow pre-op instructions, your surgery will be delayed. Dr. Duncan requires a visit to a support group as a pre-requisite to surgery and highly encourages regular attendance post-op. Dr. Duncan verbally and in writing emphasized the risks associated with obesity surgery. I prefer my doctor to have surgical competence. He has done his job when he successfully completes the surgery. After surgery the ball is in my court, therefore; his bedside manner is not important to me

I actually have not met Dr Duncan. I met with his associate for my consultation. I will meet him on Feb 20th when I have my preop work done. I then have surgury on march 5th. I have heard only good things about him.
