This whole office is great A very caring group of people . Very infomative wil take all the time you need for questions. I would highly recommend to anyone. The office did not let me know of some up front fees until 2 days before surgery But that was quickly resolved . I cannot say anything negative of anyone in that office.
I had heard that when you first see him you will be amazed that he does this surgery as he appears very young. And he does appear young. But I do have to admit he is very knowledgable and quick to answer your questions. His staff appeared just as knowledgable about their line of work whether it be insurance, Nutrition, or Psychology. I was very impressed. The office coordinator was not clear on my insurance as it had a different exclusion that she hadn't seen before. In less than a week she had called me and told me she has contacted my insurance company and gave me a heads up on what I needed to do. That alone made me feel as if I had made the right decision on where I needed to have my surgery. They seemed like a no nonsense group. I never once felt like I had been led on to belief this would work out in my favor. If your insurance won't cover, they let you know it up front.
After reading some reviews, I am surprised. I had lap band in surgery which went well. And, I recently had to have gallbladder surgery which was also done by Dr. Hoehn. Not only did I feel like he does a good job, but I feel like he went above and beyond. I have never had a problem getting an appointment, in fact when I had problems with my gallbladder, I was able to get an appointment in his office within 2 hours of me calling them. My impression of him and his staff has only gotten better over time. From the beginning dealing with Nola to Becky, Billie, and Susie.... I think they are all great. I have no concerns about his bedside manner, I think he always makes me feel comfortable. Some of the appointments are not very long, but I am glad about that. He always makes sure to answer any questions I have before he leaves. I think he is an extremely competent surgeon with a fabulous staff and I wuld highly recommend him to anyone thinking about having the surgery done. The only thing I can even think of to say negatively would be sometimes waiting in the waiting room, but I have never had to wait more than 30 minutes after my appt was scheduled. And I think this is common with any doctor. I have waited longer for an appointment with my primary care physician. Overall, I would rate Dr. Hoehn and his staff a 10+!!!!
Well, let me first say that I am very happy with my surgical experience and the surgical competence of Dr. Hoehn but I think his bedside manner and office practices need serious attention. I attended the seminar that completely explained the surgical options, aftercare program, risks, nutritional info, etc. After completing all the paperwork and getting insurance approval (which with the help of his office staff was very easy), I scheduled my appointment with the surgeon. His office staff are incredible!!! They are extremely helpful, caring, kind and supportive. After waiting in the waiting room for almost an hour, my first appointment with Dr. Hoehn was surprisingly short (less than 15 minutes). He was very nice and did quickly answer my questions before telling me I was a perfect candidate for the surgery and left the room. Needless to say, I immediately felt like dollar signs to him but I had already done enough research and homework that I wasn't changing my mind. At first, I thought maybe it's just me not asking enough questions or being to critical but every visit that I have had with him has been the exact same. I've had four fills since surgery; I wait in the waiting room for over 45 minutes, the nurse finally comes for me, I weigh, she asks me questions, the assitant then comes in to check on things and tells me Dr. Hoehn will be in to give the fill, he comes in pokes me and then leaves. I've also find it very difficult to schedule fills. I even had one of my fills cancelled so he could go on vacation but the office staff forgot to call and tell me so I took off work for nothing. When I was squeezed in the following week (as the final appointment of the day) Dr. Hoehn was anything but friendly and nice. The program Dr. Hoehn has developed at Shawnee Mission is great overall and as far as his surgical competence is concerned I would give Dr. Hoehn a 9 out of 10 but for bedside manner/personal interaction I would have to give him a 4 out of 10 based on my personal impressions and experiences. I had really hoped my impression of him would change after surgery but unfortunately it hasn't thus far. Future patients should know that SMMC has a wonderful overall program and that although I haven't had the best personal experiences with Dr. Hoehn I have no regrets and still think he's a great surgeon.
Hello, rnI was excited when I met Dr. Hoehn. He was so reasuring and made me feel good about my desicion to have the surgery. He has been open and honest about the whole procedure and about everything that will go on after the surgery. He never held anything back. He came to me right before the surgery to make sure that it was still what I wanted and made me feel at peace about going into the surgery. His bedside manner was fabulous pre & post-op. rnrnOn a scale of 1 to 10 I would give him and his staff an 11!!rnrnI would recommend the program that he offers to anyone in the world.rn
Initially, it was difficult to get a response from the bariatric office but then again I wanted it within an hour and I know they have many more patients than me. My surgeon is truly knowledgeable and answered all my questions when I first met with him. He was very confident and put many of my fears to rest. The office staff is VERY friendly and personable and helped me to feel comfortable in the office. If my doctor needed to work on something I would say bedside manner over surgical competance. He answered questions but didn't really offer information. For example, I don't even know what size band I have in. I forgot to ask and that info wasn't reviewed with me. It could have been in the packet of information given to me but after reading so much stuff it all gets jumbled. The hospital was great and the nurses were fun but professional. I had minimal pain and was back to work within a week of surgery. A monthly support group is available to assist me with my lap band. These are just my experiences surrounding my lap band surgery.
My first impression of my surgeon was that WOW he looks young. I had gotten really good reviews about him previously from others that he has performed surgery on and after having him as my surgeon I completely understand why the good reviews. My first visit was with him was brief but I guess since I didnt have many questions we had a quick visit. One thing that happened I was not expecting was how quickly my surgery date was set. I expected to have a surgery date 4-6 weeks out from my initial consult but my surgery was scheduled 2 weeks from my initial consult....talk about being excited and nervous at the same time. My surgery itself went very smoothly, I was shocked and pleased at what little pain I had after the surgery. I originally thought that Dr. Hoehn didnt see me anymore after the surgery prior to me being released but come to find out he did check on me in PACU....I was just still a little out of it so I didn't remember. The nurses did call to check on me the next day to see how I was doing and emphasized aftercare. Now I originally said I thought Dr. Hoehn's bedside manner didnt seem very warming but that has completely changed and let me explain why. On my first post op visit Dr Hoehn mentioned that he was informed about what I posted on OH board and he informed me that he did check on me and I probably just didnt remember. He took the moment to personally make me aware that he cares for all of his patients. I was surprised that either him or the nursing staff even takes the time to read their patients posting, but they do.....and I must say that is quite refreshing...not only do they genuinely care about how their patients view them but if there is a concern they make sure it is addressed so the patient does not have any further concerns. I think that is wonderful! A Doctor and office staff that really cares about how their patients feel is something you dont see a lot of anymore. I would have to say his surgical competence is excellent.....I went into sugery at 9:30 a.m. and was home by noon with hardly any pain. I would definitely recommend him to others because there is no doubt he is good at what he does, very efficient, ginuine and caring. He also comes with a wonderful nursing staff...they are all GREAT! Thanks all of you at the office for taking the time to care....
My first impression of Dr. Hoehn was like everyone elses. He definitely looks younger in person than his photo shows. When I went in for my first appointment with him he was very soft spoken and just seems like he is a very gentle doctor. He knows what people that are overweight are feeling and have went through. rnrnHis office staff is very busy. I think they seem very knowledgable and know what they are doing.rnrnI can't wait to get this show on the road on Dec. 18th!!!rnrnI will be praying for the Lord to guide Dr. Hoehn's hands and that everything will be fine with a speedy recovery!rnrn
My first impression of Dr Hoehn was he was young! He is very confident in what he does and has done a lot of these surgeries, and I feel like I'm in good hands. He was willing to take time and answer my questions and also gave me more written information on what to expect step by step on surgery day which answered more of my questions. His office was nice and his staff nice. He is serious in what he talks about, and I feel he believes in the surgery.
