Dr. Stanley Hahn created a very calm and relaxed atmosphere. I realized that he was willing to discuss the 2 types of surgery he does as simply as I required. Luckily I had done some background research. Dr. Hahn made me feel very comfortable and that I could ask any questions I had prepared or thought of later. He mentioned that aftercare and group support were very helpful in this situation and even supplied e-mail addresses of local patients. Dr Hahn was very forthcoming in sharing benefits and risks of this or any surgery and how other organs could be affected during the surgery. We discussed tests to rule out leakage, problems of circulation following surgery, diet and exercise. When meeting with Dr. Hahn for the first time, I would say that he is very informed and seems to work well with clients. (He studied in Iowa and practised in California)
Hope to learn even more very soon. I'm ready for the journey!
Dr Hahn appeared to be very knowledgeable and kind I have only met with him once in January, have kept in touch mainly with his staff nurse. Have spoken to several of his patients thru this web site and all have said what a wonderful doctor he is and that they are all glad they had the surgery. Am looking forward to being another happy patient.7/5/01- Just to update now that the surgery is done and am at week 9 post-op. Everyone I talked to said oh the surgery was the hardest part...I disagree Dr Hahn made sure it wasn't, he was great, even post-op he has been wonderful,I couldn't as a nurse myself, have been more happy with my choice of physicians. I was never in any sever pain, in fact, only minor pain, he puts you on a PCA pump so you are managing the pain with the meds yourself. I highly recommend Dr. Hahn, he's just wonderful. He also has watched me carefully post-op, (and he always forgets I'm a nurse so that isn't why he is being so cautious.) I couldn't have been more lucky.
I live in the Austin Area and needed to find a surgeon. I waited approx. 3 weeks for my first appointment. I am a RN and had done my homework before seeing him. I found him to be very informative, and confident. I thought his staff was great. Due to a last minute cancelation I was albe to schedule my surgery immediately. I actually had my pre-op hospital tests the day after my first appointnment. Everyone at the hospital spoke highly of him, he was described as a careful and caring Doctor. Thats the kind of thing a nurse likes to hear. The Hospital he uses is small not high tech but I feel totally confident in their abiliites. The Hospital staff were friendly, organizied, and explained every procedure.
I was very impressed with Dr. Hahn on my first visit. My husband was with me and they included him in every part of the visit. Dr. Hahn was very easy to talk to and made us both feel very comfortable. After he explained every step of the pros and cons of the surgery, he listened to our questions and took all the time to answer them. We never felt rushed to make a decision on the spot.
The office staff has been nothing but helpful and friendly to speak with. It really helped having one of his staff go thru the surgery and be able to answer many questions for me. I'm sorry that her husband got transfered last month and is no longer with Dr. Hahn.
I have nothing so far but great things to say about the hospital and my pre-op. They were very nice and helped me very much to get from one place to another. After my surgery I'll fill you in on how the rest went.
I was reffered to Dr. Hahn from a co-worker whom he had performed the surgery on and who is doing great. I was able to get in to see him quickly due to a cancellation. That was fine with me since I knew I'd been doing my 'homework' and visiting with my post-op friend. Yes, Dr. Hahn was very thorough and although I did not have too many questions (because of the 'homework')for him, my husband did and he felt as though the Dr. was rushing him just a tad. Everything, so far, that I have researched on Dr. Hahn has been favorable, save for a comment or two regarding his staff, and I have every confidence in knowing that I have chosen a very knowledgable and capable surgeon for my surgery. I'm currently waiting on insurance approval.
Dr. Hahn was quiet spoken. Very nice and made me feel comfortable with his skills and he strongly encouraged me to check out websites and talk to others that had done the procedure. He gave me a list of patients and their phone numbers. He said that he prefers that all of his patients considering gastric bypass surgery, go the at least one support group meeting BEFORE having the procedure.
My impression of him has not changed. He was very knowledgable about the procedure and he has a great office staff to help his patients. He has hired a person that had the surgery 18 months ago, so that she is available to answer questions from people like me. She is great!
I am not sure about the after care programs, because I just had the operation on Feb. 20, 2001. I am still very new to the surgery.
He told me the risks of the surgery in a way that did not scare me, but was accurate.
I would rate him a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, only becasue I do not believe anyone is perfect. BUT so far he has been really great.
I feel his surgical competence and bedside manner were both great. I thinks his surgical competence was a little better, but I would not have wanted it any other way. Debbie, the person that had the surgery 18 months ago, was the person I had more dealings with after the surgery. She really smoothed the rough first days. Thank God he thinks enough of his patients to have someone like her working in his office with him. He honesly told me on our first meeting, "I have not had the procedure. I can not tell you what it is like. That is why I strongly encourage you to go to the support group meetings and call the people on the list to ask questions."
He is very informative about the surgery. He didn't leave anything out, even the disadvantages. He had no problem with my mom and husband coming along for my first office visit. The visit made my family more at ease with my decision to have the surgery. In fact, now my mom wants to have the surgery too. His office staff is great, especially Debbie. She is in charge of the support group for the pre/post surgery patients. She also had the surgery. It is great to have someone who has been through the surgery who can tell you first hand what to exspect and any helpful hints to make your surgery experience better.
I work at the hospital where Dr. Hahn does the surgeries. I also work on the floor that the surgery patients stay during the days after surgery. From what I have seen and witnessed he is a wonderful, caring, and understanding doctor. And most importantly he is not judgemental of why you got to the weight you are at. He is more interested in getting your body to a healthy state.
My first impression of Dr.Hahn was that he had a smooth clear complexion. He also was well spoken and was clear about the pros and cons of the gastric-bypass surgery. His staff were capible of doing their jobs.So far everything I have witnessed has been on the up&up. I like the fact that he had his daughter there in the office with him, lets me know that he is responsile as well as family oriented.
