I had to wait 2 months just to see him for a consult. This really didn't bother me, since I am so ANAL about getting my paperwork in order. That 2 months was helpful, because by the time I got all of my medical records together it was almost exactly 2 months! Since I have been a RN for 20 years, it doesn't bother me if a doctor isn't all mushy and smiling when he is talking with you. I would rather have the facts and a great reputable surgeon. I had heard great things about Dr. Stahl and his staff. He was professional and although I was well informed, he did answer every question I had without feeling like I was rushed. I spent almost 2 hours talking with him and his PA. I hope post-op care will be as good!
My initial consultation with Dr. Stahl was on December 2, 2002.
He explained the risks and benefits of the surgery. I told him that I had done so much research on the internet and I knew about the surgery and it's risks.
He still went through the explaination of the pouch and how the stomach would change and how little I would be able to eat. He also emphasized the risks that are involved in having the surgery. Went over how much I could expect to loose.
I was impressed with Dr. Stahl. I've read alot of comments from others about Dr. Stahl. The way I explain it is that he is professional with his presentation. That's really all I expected. I decided on Dr Stahl because of his reputation and surgical competence.
His office staff was great. The waiting room had several different widths of chairs. Since the paperwork was already submitted, all I had to go was to give them my insurance cards and my drivers license for them to copy. I waited about 30 minutes and then I was called.
My weight and height was taken and I was put in the exam room to await Dr. Stahl
It was all a pleasant experience.
I met Dr. Stahl on 9/3/02. I felt he was very knowledgable and very straight forward re: surgery, complications and what to expect. His staff is very efficient in handling insurance, scheduling surgery in a timely manner and responding back to you with any problems. In addition to meeting Dr. Stahl, post op I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sherer his partner and I was every bit as impressed with him as I was with Dr. Stahl. I would recommend any physician associated with the Cahaba Valley Surgical Group. They work as a team and thats the name of the game.
Hi my name is Belinda, I'm from Cullman,AL. I had lab rny on 10/31/02 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center,Alabaster,AL. My Doctor was Dr. Richard Stahl. My first impression of Dr.Stahl was he was very friendly and made you feel that he cared for you and your health. His office staff was friendly and helpful anytime I needed to talk or get help with my Insurance approval.I especially liked susie, she was very good on getting with the insurance company and helping me out with paper work. When I returned for my 2 week post op visit I was greeted with a smile and everyone was delighted to see me and to find out how well I've done with my surgery.Dr.Stahl answered all my questions and showed me what he was going to do to me during surgery and after the surgery he was pleased how well I did and how well the surgery went. All in all I would refer Dr.Shahl to all my family and friends, and if I need any surgery's in the future I will return to him to have him do surgery on me.I also wanted to say that Shelby Baptist Medical Center Nurses where great and treated me like family and took real good care of me while I was in the hosptial.
Take care, Belinda
He was very nice. He seems as though he has the patient in mind and answers all questions you may have. Office staff was plesant. He sent a booklet that you can read over which discussed all the risk before, during and after surgery. He also emphasized on hte different procedures lap or open and what he feel may be needed.
I really liked Dr. Stahl, he was very professional and I didn't feel like I was just another meal ticket. He was very kind to my family when they were waiting during my surgery he came out quickly and told them my condition and he took his time to answer any questions they had. I wish he had a better postop support group but I had my surgery 9-14-00 and gastric bypass was still not as accepted as now. I would recommened him to anybody considering this surgery I would give him 9 out of 10.......
My first impression of Dr. Stahl was that he was very kind and compassionate, and I still feel that way. I had a LOT of complications after my surgery; I was in the hosp[ital for 5 weeks. So, I saw an awful lot of him. I think that he is a wonderful man and a fine surgeon.
After I finally went home from the hospital, I did see him (or the nurse) every 3 months for follow up visits. I tended to have to rely on the internet, however, for support and answering my day-to-day questions. As far as addressing the risks of surgery, I'm sure that I read something about it in the literature that I received from the office, but it would have been nice to have someone sit down with me and address concerns. I realize that the concept of a bariatric coordinator is a relatively new one, and Dr. Stahl may have one by now.
DR RICHARD STAHL WAS A VERY TO THE POINT DR. HE ANSWERED EVERY QUESTION THAT I ASKED.
I HAVE ONLY DEALT WITH THE OFFICE STAFF A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT WERE REALLY NICE. THEY SEEMED TO HELP EVERY PROBLEM THAT I CALLED IN WITH ABOUT MY INSURANCE. IF I HAD TO LEAVE A MESSAGE, THEY WERE PROMPT TO CALL ME BACK.
HE EXPAINED A LITTLE ABOUT THE RISKS, BUT ALSO SAID THAT MOST OF THE RISKS COULD BE PART OF ANY TYPE OF SURGERY.
Dr. Stahl is nice. Doesn't laugh much. Just a straight shooter. I hear he is an excellent dr. once you are approved and his bedside manner changes. I have met at least 6 people that have used him, and he is highley recommended. It took 4 months for the appointment, but worth the wait. The staff was nice, quiet. I was the only one in the waiting area. Suzie is the ins. handler and she was a miracle worker. Very nice. I will update after surgery. 7/12/02. Well I have yet to see Dr. Stahl again. With the complications, Dr. Sheer did the surgery. Dr. Christopher (very young) did the post op ;in the hospital. It was a bad week with the 4th of July and all. All seem very capabale and are nice and professional. When I go back for post-op, will let you know about the staff and whomever I see. Dr. Stahl did a great job on the surgery, but I had a blockage a week later and Sheer did the surgery.
Dr. Stahl was a very understanding Dr. I have been researching the surgery for so long now that I didn't have very many questions. My husband went with me and he asked a few. Dr. Stahl took the time and even drawed pictures explaining the events of the surgery.
The staff was very nice. Susie, she is the one I speak to most often, is the greatest. She takes the time to call when anything changes and keeps you informed about everything. She is a God sent.
I haven't had the surgery yet but I feel very blessed for having a great group of people that I'm placing my future in. I highly recomend Dr. Stahl and his nice group and dedicated staff.
