Dr. Stahl was very warm, and friendly. He gave me a complete physical with lab work to make sure I was completely able to have the surgery. My impression has not changed. The office was friendly and they knew just what to do. I watched a video about the surgery, and all of my question about the surgery were answered by him before I had the chance to ask. I was instructed in my after care and how important it is to maintaine it. The Cahaba group has a structured aftercare program. We also addressed the risk of the surgery. This was a very good experience, considering the importance of the surgery. The doctors surgical competence, and bedside manners were great!
I enjoyed Dr. Stahl from the first time I met him. He was very polite and to the point. He didn't beat around the bush about the risks involved at all. He was kind and gentle with me while being firm and not sugar coating anything at the same time.
The office staff was very nice and helpful. They took care of all of the paper work for me and the process was so easy I couldn't believe it!
Aftercare is very structured and good!
I would rate him a 10 on competence and bedside manner!
I had no complications and I have met my expected weight loss goal and I am still losing.
I met with Dr. Stahl on April 8th. This was my first visit to his office and he and his staff were very nice. I took a friend with me and we did the initial weight, height, vital stuff and then watched a video on the types of surgery available. Dr. Stahl came in and spent all the time I wanted answering questions and giving me the pros and cons of the grastric bypass surgery. I had originally had Dr. Christopher recommended to me but I couldn't get an appointment with him the week I was in Alabama. I was very pleased with Dr. Stahl and will continue the plans for surgery with him.
He was very polite, straight-forward, and I liked him a lot. His staff members were polite. I did feel that Dr. Stahl spoke continuously, I would suggest having a list of questions, because I forgot one of the most important things I wanted to ask him. They have a structured aftercare program, the 1-2 week follow-up, every 3 months for a year, and then yearly for bloodwork. Dr. Stahl and his staff did not sugar-coat the risks of surgery, they spoke candidly and openly about them. I had to watch a presentation about surgery and both the risks and benefits. They made it a point to to talk about how a successful outcome is losing at least 50% of your excess body weight, but most patients lose 60-80%. I rate Dr. Stahl very good, he is an excellent surgeon, very caring and I was very glad that he helped me.
I COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED WITH MY SURGERY. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS, THERE IS NO FOODS I CANNOT TOLLERATE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SUGAR (THIS IS A GOOD THING)
AFTERCARE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A BIG ISSUE WITH THIS OFFICE AS WE RETURNED ONLY EVERY THREE MONTHS AND NOW ONLY ONCE PER YEAR.
I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SURGEON TO EVERYONE.
Dr. Stahl is a kind and understanding man as well as an excellent surgeon. I continue to have high regard for him. His office staff is professional and supportive. I can think of nothing I dislike about Dr. Stahl. Dr. Stahl is honest about the successes and the complications that he has encountered with his patients. He does everything possible to do the surgery laparascopically vs open so that healing time and time off work is lessened. He listened to my questions and what I wanted for my experience and did all that he could to ensure that it went well. Dr. Stahl has a very good follow up program.
Overall I would rate Dr. stahl as a 10 out of 10. Dr. Stahl is an excellent surgeon and has a great bedside manner. (so do his partners)
I have had an exceptional experience with my surgery. I was fortunate not to have any post-op complications and have tolerated foods very well. I have not "dumped" at all and have not found it difficult to stay with the post-op recommendations of my surgeon.
I often feel that I am not the person for a pre-op patient to talk with as I have not had any negative experiences. I am a registered nurse and know the risks of this surgery and that it is a very serious decision for anyone to make...but I also know that so many people hear only the bad outcomes and complication stories that it is sometimes good for someone to talk with someone who has done well.
Even if I never lose another poound, I am grateful for having had the surgery beause I feel so much better and am able to exercise again.
I had read many patient comments on this site about Dr. Stahl which made me feel more confident in my decision to use him. I noticed a couple of Brookwood nurses had used or were about to use him for their surgery. Since those nurses are his peers, I really put a lot of stock in what they had to say about his skills. Also, while in the hospital one of the nurses told me that the Cahaba Valley Surgical group of doctor's patients had very few complications. Dr Stahl has a very congenial personality, which comes in second to his skill as a surgeon.
