What can I say about Dr. Macik other than HE IS THE BOMB!! He and his staff, in my opinion, are the best. When I began the process of getting approval for the surgery after meeting him, they made sure that every T was crossed and every I was dotted. They are very supportive before, during and after the surgery. They are the best!
He is a very detailed and structured surgeon. I think he has everything worked out to best suit his patients so that things runs smoothly. I am so very happy that Dr. Macik considers all his patients regardless on their religious beliefs and wishes not to receive blood transfusions and will accommodate them to the best of his ability. For that I am truly grateful!
I absolutely love Dr.Macik! He is so nice.
He came in and talked with us.(my sister was with me) He even prayed with us. He is very smart and seems very caring. I had a really bad experience at Dr. Dennis Smith's office- his office staff was terrible and never did anything they were supposed to. When I decided to change surgeons, Belencia ( the bariatric coordinator at North Fulton Hosp.)submitted my insurance and got me my appt. with Dr. Macik and in a matter of weeks I am having my surgery. I had to wait on Dr. Smith's office for almost 2 years. They lost paper work, and never would submit my insurance, even after I had all my pre surgery tests that they require.I have done lot's of research on Dr. Macik, and I know he is a very good Doctor.
I was very impressed with Dr Macik. He LISTENED to me and was very encouraging that he can help me. Dr Macik came to the July Support Group meeting & was very open with the entire group.
Everyone in his office has been so friendly and caring.
There is a very structured program, both pre and post op. I feel good that I've found him and his staff.
When I first met Dr. Macik I was impressed with his knowledge, and found him to be sort of quiet and shy. He spoke at a support group meeting, and I saw his sense of humor. Post op, I found him to be very caring and very warm. He stood next to my bed and rubbed my leg to comfort me. I was really touched. I have not had any problems with the office staff, and I really like his nurse, Mary Frances. He is an excellent surgeon. I'm 3 weeks post op, no complications. I was very impressed that he ordered an upper GI to check for leaks before I was allowed anything by mouth. I was told by a nurse that Dr. Macik and Dr. Waits are the only surgeons that do the test on every patient post op to make sure that there are no problems. I was very impressed with that. I wanted a good surgeon, and I got one with Dr. Macik. My cousin, a Radiologist, told me to pick a good surgeon, personality was unimportant. I just got lucky I guess!

I was lQQking forward to meeting Dr.Macik...I had all my questions written down to ask, and had done three years of research on WLS, so I knew I was ready!
I was sitting in the exam room ready to start asking away, when he walked in. We shook hands like all good southerners do when you first meet....We smiled at one another and I asked him if he was a Christian! I think this may have been the first time a patient ever asked him this,(just because of the lQQk on his face) he did not stumble...he stated yes and smiled. I told him I was glad and then asked him if he would not mind that right before I went back for the OR if my family and him could have a word of prayer. To pray for him and me during the surgery. Dr.Macik stated it was fine and he seemed honored.
We talked a while about what to expect before and after my surgery. I feel he is a competent surgeon after all we covered. I started to get a little weepy eyed, he impressed me with how well in tuned he was to my feelings. I think his bedside manner was very caring.
He asked me to get onto the exam table, he showed me where and explained how he would do the operation. We then said our goodbyes for now. I walked away knowing I was in good hands. :)
Dr. Macik is out of Dr. Edward Waits office in Atlanta,GA. Atlanta is approximately 350 miles from where I live. Dr. Waits is absolutely one of the best surgeons around and Dr. Macik is one of the finest up and coming surgeons as well. While the staff is sometimes a bit lacking in diplomacy (if you don't like hearing it like it is, you won't want to go there!), they also are excellent at what they do. They don't mollycoddle you or sugarcoat anything, and if you are not ready to do everything they tell you, don't have the surgery. There were other surgeons closer to home that I could have chosen but did not. No regrets. Well worth the trip. I have had virtually no complications from the surgery, unlike others I have met that went to surgeons closer to home. Their aftercare program is the most structured and detailed I have ever encountered. Again comparing it to that of others I have talked with that went with more localized doctors.
Only 1 negative: Hospital stay was truly a NIGHTMARE! My experience may not have been the norm though. Hopefully not anyhow.
