Dr. Paul Macik in Atlanta, GA cannot be beat in my opinion. He is a very gentle, thorough surgeon. A man of few words but will answer any question you may have. Thank you Dr. Macik for helping me get my life back!

It's been over 10 years since I've had surgery, so I really can't speak to the current program/ and aftercare offered. I have maintained a weight loss of 170 pounds and only see-saw about 5 pounds at most. Too me, that's a FABULOUS surgeon.

Dr. Macik is an excellent, competent, and compassionate man. I never had a moment's problem post op, because I did what I was told. He still wants to see me every 6 months for follow up, but I just pop in a for a visit every year or two since I manage my bloodwork thru my PCP.

He did my original RNY surgery in 2003, an incisional hernia repair in 2004, and my husband's umbilical hernia repair in 2005.

He is very quiet and reserved which made me a little uncomfortable at first. (I am loud and obnoxious.) I researched all of the surgeons performing this surgery (back in 2003) and he had one of the lowest mortality rates. At that time, I was worried about dying during surgery. I realized shortly after, I should have been worried about dying from NOT having surgery if that makes sense.

Anyway, he is one of the good guys. Make an appt to meet him, and do your own research thoroughly before letting anyone cut into you.

4 years out...I am doing GREAT with VSG. No restrictions on food. If results speak, Dr. Macik is a winner!

First Impression: Sort of quiet, serious and business like - but his reputation is very solid, which I care about much more than his persona! There are tons of good things about him on this board.

Office Staff: There were a good deal of mistakes, but all I can ask is that they correct them (which they have). I had to double check everything, keep following up, etc. They all seem super nice and available to help.

Advice: Stay on top of everything - make sure you specify hospital - I was scheduled at Northside, but wanted Emory John's Creek. Keep following up on appeals statuses, etc.

My surgeon and his staff were supportive all along my journey. All my questions were answered. They were available whenever I needed them. They gave me referrals for all my appointments required by my insurance. In fact I didn't even have to worry about what to do next, they held my hand all along. With this type of surgery, you are looking at a life long partnership and I feel like I truly have a group of people on my side for the rest of my life.

Dr. Macik told me that in a year or less I would be a skinny man and starting from 313 pounds to today's weight of 222 pounds he was right and I have been pleased with his care and follow ups.

My surgery was on 6/13/2012 and my Roux-en-Y and hernia repair went without a problem and I did spend two days in the hospital and had very little pain after surgery. My incisions has heal very well. Today at the three month appointment, the office visit was very prompt 3 minute wait and with good feedback from Dr. Macik.
Dr. Macik is a man of few words but is professional, knowledgeable and informative, most of all he is an excellent surgeon.

Excellent surgeon, very skilled. A man of few words but an artist in the operating room. My gastric sleeve (and hiatal hernia repair) took less than an hour, and I was home from the hospital the next afternoon. Excellent support staff as well. Highly, highly recommended!

At the year anniversary of my surgery, I continue to be very pleased with Dr. Macik and his staff. They are good people and I wish all my family's doctors were as good as them. The aftercare has been appropriate and regular.

Dr. Macik is professional and informative in all respects. His office staff is great and I have been pleased with thier care and follow ups.

My surgery went without a problem and I did not have pain after the first day. My incisions have been healing well. Today at the two week appointment, the office visit was prompt with good feedback.

I appreciate the processes and encouragement that Macik and his office staff developed to help you make the best decisions possible. They also have good follow up and support following your surgery.

I chose surgical competance over bedside manner. Dr. Macik is knowledgable, nice, and polite, but he is also a man of few words. I have never been able to get him to speak volumes. I am not certain if "shy" is the word for him but you do get the feeling that if you cornered him he would get squirly and start twitching.

Please do not let my last comment discourage you as I did a lot of research and Dr. Macik's surgical skill outshines most in the southeast region. Further, he has the necessary office staff in place to round out the services he provides.

In general, I am very pleased.

I have entertained the idea of weight loss surgery for at least the last 8 years; met many surgeons and I was not convinced until I met Dr. Macik. He is the best, focused, patient and have the angel hands as his previous patients stated-his work is magic!!! after 2 night at the hospital which was my choice to stay the extra night I didnot need not even 1 pain killer. He has an awesome group of people that work for him, Robin and Tiffany has been great. Thank you guys for a great job you do everyday.

I was 68 years old and had a BMI of 42 when I had surgery 9 months ago. I was worried to death but knew I was dying without this surgery. After research, I chose Dr. Paul Macik. And I am so Very glad I did! I have not had one problem. Dr. Macik did not use any stomach or urinary tubes. In fact, when I woke up I thought he had not done the surgery for some reason, as I felt so good. I have lost 65 pounds in 9 months. Which is great because of my age and lower metabolism. I have followed the rules to the letter.
I am so thankful for Dr Macik and his staff. They could not have been nicer. And Kudos for answering the phone with a real person and not a machine.
Here's a tip...the nurses at the hospital choose him. And they know who is good. He is shy but will answer any question. If you care about the person who will cut up your stomach, choose him.
BTW He did everything I read in several books that make a good Bariatric surgeon. And he was in and out in a little over an hour And does 4 surgeries a week.
