Dr. Macik was kind and serious at the same time. It was obvious that he took his profession very seriously and was only concerned about what was going to serve my needs best. He answered every question I asked in detail - to make sure I understood clearly.

The staff at Waits/Macik's office was very professional. Nancy the nurse is sensitive to the fact that I am embarrassed about my size.

Everyone should know that you are required to go to the support group before they will do the surgery. I resisted it at first, but once I went to the group it was wonderful. I met and talked with people in various stages of the surgery. After the meeting I felt more confident than ever about the success of this surgery.

The office staff were great! Nancy the nurse was wonderful and Karen is a wiz with insurance.

Dr. Macik is very kind and willing to answer any questions. He is a very busy and much in demand surgeon.

I feel I received good care at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. They have quite a few bariatric post-op patients, so the staff is well-versed on how to deal with us.

7/9/01 - I wanted to add, at the top of this post, something I believe to be quite telling about Dr. Macik. Throughout my entire stay at Northside Hospital, I could not count the number of health professionals who complimented Dr. Macik (both professionally and personally). Nurses, respitory therapists, technicians..etc...ALL repeatedly told me what a fantastic doctor I had. I believe that kind of feedback, unsolicited and spontaneous, from so many colleagues, speaks VOLUMES.
3/01 Have yet to meet Dr. Macik personally. My initial consult was with Dr. Waits. I found him to be personable and thorough. I trust his experience and am pleased with his emphasis on aftercare. My surgery will be with Dr. Macik who recently joined the practice. I have every confidence that Dr. Waits chose his new partner carefully. Dr. Waits was quite clear and forthcoming regarding all risks of surgery. I found his office manager curt at times but fairly aggressive in handling insurance and scheduling matters which is most appreciated!

Post op: Dr. Macik was quiet but answered, quite thoroughly, all questions. The surgery took place without complications other than incision pain, and his follow up thus far, has been attentive and positive.

I HAD MY FIRST MEETING WITH DR. MACIK ON 6-12-01....VERY IMRESSED WITH HIM....HE STAYED AS LONG AS ANYONE HAD QUESTIONS. THE OFFICE STAFF SO FAR HAVE BEEN VERY FRIENDLY AND I'M VERY PLEASED. I FELT THAT ALL OF MY QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED. I'M VERY ANXIOUS TO GET MY APPROVAL BACK.

Dr. Macik is a kind man with a good bedside manner. I have had good luck with his office staff and found Nancy the nurse whio is actually Dr. Wait's wife, to be very helpful and very kind. I believe Dr. Waits would not have Dr. Macik as a partner unless he was top=notch and I am confident he will keep my care in his best interest. the aftercare is critical and very much emphasized in this office and i will adhere to it stictly.

This group is the best! I was seen close to the scheduled time of my appointment. After the personal work with both Nancy and Dr. Macik, the two doctors held a group discussion group for the five or six of us who were potential surgery patients. Dr. Waits (one of the nicest people I have ever met) led the discussion about the history of obesity surgery. We were all encouraged to ask questions, which we did. Dr. Waits was recommended to me by a family member of mine, who is also a physician. Karen is the office manager and knows what she is doing in all matters, especially working with the insurance companies. I had also checked out another Atlanta physician through his web sites and what he mailed me.....no, thanks. What a difference you can tell in attitude! Dr. Waits and Dr. Macik are the ones for me.
Actually, Dr. Macik has been assigned to my surgery. Either of these doctors would be fine with me.

Today I met Dr. Macik...Not Dr. Waits.
Dr. Macik proved to be very honest/ frank about the procedure. Leaving no questions unanswered. I can appreciate that. He told us {group}that we have a chose between Waits or himself.whom ever we feel comfortable with.He has a very earthy, caring nature.

Karen rescheduled me...moved me up 2 days.
So, I'll be meeting Dr. waits on Tuesday instead of Thursday.:)

Update 6/6/01 I cannot say enough nice things about this man!!! He is absolutely wonderful in his surgical skills, as well as "bedside manner"! Dr. Waits, look out, you have some competition for being "the best in the business"!!!

I haven't personally met Dr. Macik yet, except at the support group meeting, but have heard great things from others and most importantly, Dr. Waits and his staff, in whom I have the utmost trust. I also highly recommend the support group meetings--a wealth of info from others who have been there!
