I had my first consult with Dr. Jawad yesterday. He is very knowledgable, caring and takes a lot of time to answer any question you have . In short he is wonderful. I am very impressed with him. I feel it is an incredible blessing to be able to have him as my surgeon. He tries to do the Gastric Bypass Lap, if any way possible. He has dome about 600 lap-RNY and 300 open if I'm not mistaking.
He also does Lap-Band. The patients i have met yesterday are very happy with as well.
His office staff is very kind, Sandra is his Clinical Coordinator. Sandra had her Lap-RNY in December 2002 and looks wonderful. She tries to help wherever she can with you insurance issues.
He frequently speaks at local support group and everybody there totally loved him.
He has a very good aftercare program, he will follow his patients forever.
I would rate him on a scale from 1-10, as at least a 20. I did not even have the surgery yet, but feel so good with him and the way he explained everything. He seems very caring.
I have NOTHING negative to say about Dr. Jawad.

Dr. Jawad is a great doctor and I highly recommend him. His bedside manner was perfect and I recovered quickly and I feel great. His staff, although very busy, is highly competent and curteous. The hospital staff sang his praises the whole time I was there, and, with a mother who was an RN for over 20 years, having a host of medical professionals who highly respect you is indicative of a truly great doctor.

Dr. Jawad is a confident man with a straight forward approach to this surgery. I have had my first consult with him and he makes you feel as if this is not that big of a deal, he has done 800 surgerys plus and says he has had one fatality and that is because the person would not get up and walk after the surgery.
His office girl Sandra Brown is very nice and is a past patient. I can tell her favorite part is when she gets to call you up and say your approved. Which i was with no problems and no fights.

I met with another doctor and had a totally different experience with him. Dr. Overcash was focused more on talking about the risk of death and requires letters from you and spouse saying you understand the risks (DEATH) I suspose that is for if something happens its harder to sue him. He also says his death rate is the national average.
All in all not a good experience in my opinion. Just make sure you are comfortable with the doctor you choose.

I will update after the surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Jawad was that he was so quiet and busy. I found out later on that he is a quiet person who is quite busy! However, despite the workload he has, he doesn't hesitate to spend as much time with you as you need him too!

His office staff is friendly and willing to help in your journey.

I don't think there is anything about Dr. Jawad that I didn't like. He's a wonderful person, a talented surgeon, and cares for his patients.

Future patients should understand he is quiet at first. It could have been that I was so nervous during the consult visit. Write down your questions you have for him, he is more than willing to answer them. In fact, he asks a few times if you have any questions for him!

Dr. Jawad expects you to be his patient for the rest of your life. He monitors your labwork and weight loss, along with your diet to make sure you are adequately feeding your body. He has a structured aftercare program where you return to him after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and then every 6 months forever.

Dr. Jawad explicitly goes over the risks to you from the surgery. However, keep in mind...overweight is also a risk.

I rate Dr. Jawad a 11! He is highly respected in the field of bariatric surgery. Both his competence and bedside manner are excellent...qualities that are both important for a successful experience.

I felt like Dr Jawad was a very compatent Dr. He has a great record, and seems to sympathize with the battle that we fight everyday with wieght. He thinks I should have the lap band, which I do not want, so we will see how this goes. But I do not want to see anyone else because he is the best in this area, and I will be putting my life in his hands, for that I want the BEST.

Jawad was the best choice. He is professional, and so so so good at what he does. Its now wonder why people come from the other end of the USA to see him. There were people there from Texas, North Carolina everywhere..out of state just to see him. Its so worth the wait and the drive. I talked with many of his patients and some were over 400lbs and he was able to do LAP no problem. He had me done in 45 minutes. He is great.

I'm going with JAWAD..I'll update more later..surgery is TUESDAY JUNE 3rd!! 2003 this is my second approval..and I have alot of faith in this guy he is GOOD..very GOOD>

Went to my inital consult on August 15, 2002. Dr. Overcash was a nice doctor..but I have to say the FIRST thing out of his mouth scared me to death. But I was prepared for it. he said "beautiful baby..do you have anyother children?" I said "yes a little boy who is 7" he said "Who will care for your children if we loose you on the operating table.?" My mother got white as a ghost. I said "MY HUSBAND" and then we moved forward..with the consult. The staff is great patrice is so sweet. The only negative thing is that he looked totally exhusted..like he needed to sleep for a few days..looked like he had been working 24/7 for weeks, very worn down and that worries me. I want a rested and refreshed doctor doing sugery on me.

My first impression of Dr. Jawad was, <i>"What a straight forward, calm and informative doctor."</i>
He explained the RNY procedure so clearly in the group presentation, I barely had any questions left to ask him. <i>(Plus I have heard him speak at the meetings a time or two)</i> I feel VERY safe in Dr. Jawad's care. I have met so many post-ops that have such wonderful things to say about him—<i>He is the BEST!</i> I feel fortunate that he is my surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone seriously considering WLS.
