My first impression of his office staff was that they were truly trying to help and did not in any way what-so-ever act like I was less of a person because I wanted this surgery(yes I got that feeling from other offices)As the first appt came up for the initial meet and greet I had a hundred questions, each was answered kindly and completely. I was lucky though-due to the job I do, I talked to them on an almost daily basis. My first impression of him was that he knew what he was talking about. He has been doing bariatric surgeries for a long time and is very knowledgeable of the procedure. He answered every question we had without fail and is truly concerned about the patient. I can't say there was anything I disliked about him and that is saying a LOT as I am a nurse and just as a person I can always find something about you that I do not like!!!! He is very concerened about the after care and makes sure that you know the consequences if you don't follow up regularly and if you don't follow the guidelines. He makes sure that you understand that this is a tool---not a cure!!! I have rarely in my practice as a nurse come accross a Dr that truly cares about your success, has great competence at his practice and has a great bedside manner to go with it. I am grateful that I was able to find such a Dr for such a risky procedure. To prospective patients--REASEARCH REASEARCH REASERCH is all I can say. Make it easy on yourself. Call your insurance company, ask them what the requirements are for the surgery--they will tell you--make sure that you have all of the paperwork ready when you go to your appt. Don't get angry with his staff because your claim was denied when you neglected to do your part. You have to take some responsability with this procedure as well. I can only hope that all of you have as easy of a process as I did.
I had my first appointment with Dr. Jawad on 5/31/01. Dr. Jawad is a very nice man. I really liked him. The ladies that I talked to were right, though, he's a quiet person, but is very knowledgeable about what he's doing. I had surgery scheduled for 8/15/01, but it was cancelled due to a fever. So, I had another date set for 8/28/01. Dr. Jawad was wonderful. I feel that he is the best in his field and that I couldn't have done better picking anyone else. He has a great aftercare program which he is very strict about and he truly cares for his patients.
Let me first say Dr. Jawad is excellent at what he does. He has won major awards and I would not have trusted my surgery to anyone else. He is very thorough in explaining the surgery, effects and alternatives. He is a very nice and softspoken man. As for a warm and fuzzy bedside manner I do not see it there. I know that he truly loves what he does and loves the people that he helps. Although this is not the man who will hold your hand. For me bedside manner had nothing to do with surgeon that I choose for surgery.
You will feel like you first couple of appointments are a "cattle call." You are in a room with a lot of other people who are in the same situation that you are. A lecture is given about the next step on your journey. Then you see the surgeon for a few minutes and you are on your way. It was a little scarey on the first visit because it felt like a blurr.
Overall...this surgeon has my highest regard and recommendations over and over again!
He was very confident very friendly.I told him in the pre op visit I had read some of the other patients impressions of him on this site said that he was very skilled seems to really know what he's doing BUT his bedside manner is so so! It broke the ice and he laughed and asked if that was what they say.He was very nice there isnt anything I dont like about him except sometimes he is hard to understand he was saying sum thing about being on VH1 in sept at first everyone thought he was joking but I no sure what thats about.
8/7/03 I met Dr. Jawad at my initial consult. He is very busy and did half of the initial consult with a group of us. He has performed 900 surgeries and has only had one death. He has been working in the field of bariatric surgery since the 80s. I found him to be very knowledgeable and competent. By the time he got to my individual appointment, it was after five p.m. and he was very tired, but I didn't have many questions for him since I have been researching this for two years. Meeting him helped me to make the decision to proceed with the surgery. I wasn't sure before.
