My first consult has come and gone yahoooooo!!!I met Dr Jawad 12/19/02 he seemed like a very nice man not much on words but i expected that, several people had told me. He answered all my questions with direct answers. I do have to say I was very nervous lol. His staff was very kind and helpful. I did not get a chance to talk with any other pt while i was there, the office moved very quickly i thought there would b a long wait b 4 i could c the dr but i was in and out b 4 i knew it. that impressed me lol.the office has filed my insurance so now it a wait and c thing. ill post more when i know more!!
OK so it has been a long time since i have posted anything on Dr Jawad. I met with him again 12/18/03 2 weeks prior to my surg date. I still feel he is a wonderful surg and now that I am post-op my feeling are even stronger. He is a great surg. Very kind man (does not talk much) but really knows what he is doing. I had no complications at all. Just follow everything he and his nurse (sylvia) tells you and you will do wonderfully !!! again my rating on Dr Jawad and his staff A++
Have not met Dr Jawad yet but his Nurse practioner was very educated, and able to answer all questions.
Initially I was put off by the response from the staff about submitting my info to the insurance company, it seemed that everything was going to take forever, and I would never be able to talk to anyone...
That was not true... it did take 1 1/2 weeks to submit me, and then the insurance company took forever it seemed. BUT everytime I called Dr Jawads office Sandra would talk to me, answer all my questions, and make me feel much better.
When I did need anything, from a letter faxed or written, it was taking care of, but not without a little kick in the butt for who ever need to do it..
Best advice to get approved...STAY ON TOP OF IT...call the insurance company and MD office atleast weekly if not twice a week!
I was approved in 2 months, and it seemed like yrs....Good Luck
I traveled 130 miles one way from Jacksonville, Fl to Ocala, Fl in order to have my Lap RNY perfromed by the best, Dr. Jawad. Having been a registereed nurse since 1986, I knew the value of having the right surgeon with the right amount of practice. Though several surgeons here in Jacksonville do offer the same procedure, none have the experience of Dr. Jawad. After having received approval the first time around from BCBS, my actual surgical date was but a mere 14 days after insurance approval. I am now on my 5th day post op from a lap RNY- during my final pre-op days, a friend (and fellow nurse) became very upset when she learned of my plan to have this procedure- you see, a co-worker had alomost lost her sister on the table that during a lap RNY being perfromed in Jacksonville that very same week...I was quick to reassure my friend as I proudly informed her- "Oh don't worry! I am traveling to Ocala to have Dr. Jawad do my procedure!" There is NO compensating for having a skilled, caring, professional surgeon that has done the same procedure over....and over...and over. Dr. Jawad and his team are the greatest! I knew exactly what to expect and when to expect it! F/U all the way to Ocala is a small price to pay! I am delighted! -Lynn Smith, RN

First consult with Dr. Yasrebi. Glad to talk to him, but he dropped my insurance. Due to my insurance delegating who I go to, I decided to interview a few doctors. Since Yasrebi is out, on to interview #2....
9/10/02
Number two doctor... Dr. William Overcash. Through this wonderful communication tool (AMOS), I decided who could have more clout than the people who are obese? - so I chose to interview Doc Overcash. Aetna did give me a new approval number for this doctor. I just have to drive 80 miles for the consult!!!
10/7/02
Met Dr. Overcash - not impressed. He does have a quicker surgery date. Some ladies in my support group have been very successful and love Dr. Overcash very much. The meeting lasted 30 minutes and he explained the procedure and answered all questions I had. He did seem busy. He did get down to business quickly. After hearing publicly and privately about complications from some of Dr. Overcash's patients, I decided Overcash is definitely NOT the guy for me. Plus, I wanted laproscopic.
10/30/02
Consulted Dr. Jawad who does it laproscopically. Based on his statistics, education, public opinion, the length of time for surgery, his bedside manner, I chose him. He is a very impressive surgeon. I whole-heartedly trust him to do a wonderful job! The staff was very nice and have been very helpful! Their office was packed!!! My surgery date was longer than I wanted, but I will deal with it.

This is the exact day a year ago I saw Yasrebi - what a co-ink-i-dink!
I AM SO GLAD I CHOSE DR. JAWAD! I CAN BARELY BELIEVE I EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT ANYONE ELSE TO DO THIS SURGERY. HE IS AN EXTREMELY SKILLED SURGEON! MINIMAL SCAR - MINIMAL INVASION - NO INFECTION - SURGERY DONE IN ONE HOUR - I FEEL GREAT! WHAT MORE COULD I HAVE ASKED FOR!?
Only downfalls:
--No great aftercare. Although I didn't feel a huge need for one - some people may. He does do follow up, but there is no "nutritionist" on board.
---He did not take out my gallbladder, but as a surgeon he is not allowed to take out organs that are working properly. I just hate to have to go through another surgery-type issue when this gallbladder and his stoney friends decide to multiply! lol
He was quiet and reserved, but accessible and willing to andswer all questions. Bedside manner post surgery was upbeat and supportive. The risks were emphasized during the initial consultation, including post surgical nutritional deficiecies and life style changes. Rate him as an excellent surgeon in both bedside manner and surgical competance.
He's very quiet, but nice. I liked him right from the start.
My impression of him has not changed.
The office staff was going through many changes and things were a little slow going and confused at first. They're smoothing out now.
There isn't anything that I don't like about Dr. Jawad.
Don't expect him to be real talkative, you'll have to do most of the talking and asking questions.
It's very important.
Fairly well structured.
Was very open and upfront about all risks.
10+
His surgical competance is awesome, and his bedside manner is good. He's just not a real talkative, outgoing type of person.
I didn't meet Dr. Jawad until my pre-op appointment on the 13th. He seemed very quiet and reserved and very busy. I was a little uncomfortable with this at first, but I had come so far and I wasn't turning back now. He was much more personable when he came in to release me from the hospital the day after surgery.
Dr. Jawad and his staff were very dilligent about getting the risks associated with this surgery across to everyone. Dr. Jawad is an excellent surgeon and I'm glad that he did my surgery.
