I was very pleased with the Dr. I was not able to meet him til the pre-op sinces he is in surgery alot. Was very informative. His office staff are very helpful and very knowledgeable in what is neded to go forward. I never had a problem with not seeing the doctor that much since his staff was great.

Dr. Jawad is a very caring, very attentive surgeon. I highly recommend him to anyone in this area considering WLS.

My first impression of Dr. Jawad was that he really was passionated and concerned about obesity. He was very quiet. His bedside manner isn't the best I've seen, it's probably "good." Not that he did anything wrong, he was always pleasant and seemed concerned but he seemed to feel awkward at times. One thing I liked is that he allowed me to participate in decisions concerning my care. I could tell during the presentation that for him it was just a formality but give him a trocar or scapel and let him go to work giving another morbidly obese person a second chance at life. At first, I didn't care for his staff at all. During the months I considered, researched and finally made the decision to move forward with wls, I was very emotional and anxious and though at times I may have been the problem, his (office) staff came across as non-caring, impatient and sometimes down right rude. I almost went with another surgeon as a result. Since surgery, I have been treated much better by his staff. Dr. Jawad is very capable in his work. That is important because trusting your surgeon is one of the most vital aspects of going into surgery. I knew no matter what happened that I was getting one of the best qualified to do the job and the rest was up to God. I unfortunately cannot participate in their local support groups since I live out of town but he has follow-up visits and his ARNP has made herself available to me by phone to call with questions or concerns. That really makes me feel comfortable. Dr. Jawad simply explains the risks and you're left knowing they exist and are a possibility but you're not necessarily afraid to move forward. I just prayed that it would all work out and again having confidence in him as a surgeon was an added plus. Overall, I am glad I chose Dr. Jawad and would recommend him to anyone. He's been performing wls for over 20 years and has over a thousand procedures under his belt.

Dr. Jawad is a quiet man, but very caring. He has a deep concern for his patients and bends over backwards to help them. He is straight-forward and will "tell it like it is" without mincing words or trying to make flowery speeches. I liked that very much. This was too important a matter to have someone dance around with pretty words. I wanted to know the dirt on this surgery and I wanted to know exactly how I would have to live AFTER the surgery.

Dr. Jawad's staff is also terrific. At first, it was hard to get calls returned, but I discovered that they were going thru some major changes in-house and the problem was soon remedied. I usually receive a call-back the same day I call and no question is treated as being foolish.

Dr. Jawad answered all my questions and all the questions of those in the group session with me in a matter-of-fact manner and with the utmost honesty. At the time of my surgery, he had already completed over 1,000 bariatric surgeries with only 1 loss of life and that was a patient who refused to walk after surgery, thus developing blood clots that caused a heart attack.

Dr. Jawad was thorough in his pre-op procedures and did not rush thru the appointments even though others were waiting. I never felt as if I was being pushed to get out when it was my turn. The operation itself was done laproscopically even though I was at 375 pounds and took less than an hour to finish. I was scheduled for 7 AM and was out of recovery and settled in my room by 8:30 AM.

Monroe Regional and the staff were terrific and my 1-night stay was more than I dared hope for. None of the staff made me feel foolish or second-class as I feared since they were all slim & energetic. They were all very caring and efficient.

I would and often DO, recommend Dr. Jawad and Monroe Regional to anyone that's considering this procedure.

I did not get to meet Dr Jawad at the consult, but I was greeted by his assistant. She was very informative and took the time to answer all my questions. Her inthusiasm was so overwhelming, that I got anxious to get the process going right then.

I have not met the doctor as of yet. I have met with the practioner who help Dr Jawad and I feel very confident about his ability to do this surgery. She was very informative and we had a 3 hours group consultation and then met individually with her. We discussed preop and postop and what to expect and what could happen. Also, I was very impressed with her knowledge of the surgery. I feel I will be well taken care of and I am looking forward to my surgery date.

I was referred to Dr. Jawad through my Primary Care Physician. I didn't want to drive that far (over an hour) at first. However, as I researched and read profiles of his patients, I learned that Dr. Jawad has an excellent reputation. I didn't actually meet him until four days prior to my surgery. I was a little apprhensive about not meeting him sooner, but I understand how busy he is. I did not feel rushed or hurried. He was very thorough and addressed every aspect of pre and post op. I had heard that he was very quiet and that is quite true. He is very straightforward regarding risks, etc., but is not a "chatty" person. His surgical competence is by far his strong point, not his bedside manner. The staff is very nice. They're busy and you have to kind of stay on top of things, but they're very friendly. The Nurse Practitioner, Sylvia, is very warm and friendly. I called her three or four times the first two weeks post-op and she was always willing to answer my questions and address my concerns. She made me feel like I was NOT bothering her at all. My best advice to anyone considering this surgery, is RESEARCH and READ as much as you can about your surgeon. I have not found a single negative comment about Dr. Jawad and I have read about a hundred profiles.

I attended my first appointment at Dr. Jawad's office on Dec. 19th, 2003. I heard a presentation given to the group assembled in the waiting room at 10:00 by Sylvia. She is Dr. Jawad's nurse practitioner and is wonderful. She discussed what the surgery was like, the risks, what you need to do afterward, etc. She also answered all questions. Then we met individually with Sylvia to go over documentation that I had brought. She determined that I needed a few more items. Then we left. Unfortunately, my gall bladder decided to have difficulties the next day. I became pretty ill - (couldn't eat any food with more than 1 gram of fat, pain with most meals, etc.) I called Dr. Jawad's office to tell them that I was experiencing a particularly bad gallbladder attack and he called me back within a few minutes and asked me to come to the office the next day. I went in and met him at the office - It was standing room only in both waiting rooms. Anyway, I found him extremely competent even while under the pressure of needing to see so many patients. I scheduled a gall bladder removal, laproscopic, for 2 weeks later. I wasn't able to make the entire two weeks, it got worse, and Dr. Jawad's office got me into surgery four days before my scheduled date. I am very glad to have Dr. Jawad for my surgeon and Sylvia as my office contact. Dr. Jawad removed my gallbladder, told my husband that I was fine immediately after the surgery and I left the hospital within about 2 hours after surgery. This was my first surgery and after four days, I felt like I was returning to "normal" again. Of course, I believe that I was starting to gain the fifteen pounds that I had lost with not being able to eat much of anything and my hair was starting to fall out. Dr. Jawad does see you before the gastric bypass in a group and individually to make sure that you realize what is involved (your role, his role, risks, etc.) in the gastric bypass procedure. His office is incredibly busy and that is why it is so hard to contact office staff. I know that Dr. Jawad is the right surgeon because of just how many people come to his office.
