What a wonderful staff and surgeon. Can't wait to begin my journey.

Dr Johnell is extremely caring and supportive to each of his patients. He makes sure that this surgery is right for you and doesn't skip any steps to make sure you have the most thorough pre-op and post-op care. His staff is very helpful and friendly and always there to help out in anyway they can to make the process as streamlined and easy as it can be. He has a very organized aftercare program to help you succeed long term throughout your life after you have had surgery. There is always a support meeting or classes to attend and follow up visits with him are mandatory. He dedicates himself to follow up so he can make sure you succeed long term.

He seemed thorough. The office staff was good. He highly emphasized aftercare and losing some weight before surgery. The risks were stated and before surgery he went through them one by one. I would recommend him to anyone who needs the surgery. I had total faith in his competence. His bedside manner was not the warm type I usually like in a doctor, but I would choose, and did choose, his thoroughness and skill over bedside manner.

Dr. Johnell was confident and to the point.

I was originally scheduled to see Dr. Schoen in Denver but their office kept putting me off and were very unresponsive and inconsiderate. Out of frustration I called Dr. Johnell's office. They were very friendly and helpful in answering my questions. I have my consultation on Nov 10 and am told it will only take 2-4 weeks to get surgery scheduled once approved.

Dr. Johnell and his staff are very professional and EXTREMELY thorough!! Their aftercare program is just as essential as the pre-op and surgery experience. There is an extensive calendar of support groups and workshops that anyone is welcome to attend. They have support groups for GBP and for LapBand.

My recovery from the surgery was very quick. Dr. Johnell told me the risks that would be involved and kept me informed of my progress on a daily basis. It would have been good for him to do rounds both in the morning and again in the afternoon. I would say that his surgical competence was his greatest asset. He has a PA that answered a great deal of my questions.

I really appreciate Dr. Johnell and the staff in his office. I have a miserable time getting to my appointment due to road closures and terrible weather, but they made sure I was seen, even when I was extremely late. They were great!

The nurse who first saw me, forgive me I can't remember her name, was very nice and pleasant. She even apologized for the time we waited to see Patrice, the RN. No need to apologize, we were late!!

Patrice is awesome. She really knows her stuff and seems to catch on to things that most wouldn't. She was very knowledgable and made me feel like a human, not someone who just "overeats" all the time. She was good with my husband and his questions/comments as well which was very important to me. She made sure that we felt comfortable with talking to her and that our questions were answered. We didn't feel rushed about asking questions and got the answers we needed.

Dr. Johnell seemed very quiet, but good all the same. He spoke with me briefly about why I was choosing RNY, looked over all my information, listened to my heart and lungs and said that I was a good candidate for surgery. It was short, but exactly what I expected. He was professional and polite.

I would recommend Dr. Johnell and his staff with no reservations. They are a great group of people.

For a surgeon he was positively warm and fuzzy. Very professional, answered my questions. Office staff nice. Don't cancel your appointment without rescheduling, they won't see you for 3 months. Aftercare was emphasized, and he has a structed support system. I would give him a 10 on initial consult, and will update post-op. Surgical competence is so much more important. I could care less if he has the personality of Godzilla, if he is good with a knife. I would recommend this MD, and I don't recommend many.

Also see above re: Karen the insurance person. She is the bomb! What a helpful person.

I am 11 weeks post-op. I am very impressed with their office staff, especially Paula, the nurse practitioner. I had an allergic reaction to my stiches and they were very reassuring. The office staff works with me around scheduling my f/u appointments very well. Saw the MD 1 time post-op to rule out a band infection (it was the reaction to the sutures) but otherwise haven't seen him. But the other staff take such good of me, I feel totally spoiled! I would recommend this MD to anybody.

My office visit was brief and to the point. He is a very nice man and his office was very helpful in answering my questions and were quick to get me approved and going! I was approved and scheduled for surgery in under a month.
