My first impression of Dr Johnell was that he seemed like a down to earth person. He took his time and didnt rush me through the visits. In the hospital he made me feel like I was in good hands. I have had very good experiences with him as my surgeon. The office staff is very supportive and one thing that was surprising is the wait time was not long at all. They got things going right away at each appointment, which is a very big plus. Overall they have all been great. At this time I have nothing negative to say about Dr Johnell or his staff. They are a good group of people and Im glad I went with him.
My first impression of Dr. Johnell, was a great one. He was very nice, but at the same time he was very serious in what he does. I was only 22 when I had the surgery, so it really helped having a wonderful surgeon. The office staff was wonderful and patient, they always helped as best as they could. I would rate Dr. Johnell a 9.
Now that I am post-op and have had quite a few interactions with Dr. Johnell and his staff, I have nothing but the highest praise for him and his entire staff!
Dr. Johnell could not be a more caring, considerate, skilled surgeon. He truly enjoys working with bariatric patients, in fact, he told me that learning to do lap RNY surgery and working with the bariatric patients and seeing how it changed their lives was literally a "life changing experience" for him.
His bariatric nurses, Patrice (his wife), and Connie (also a gastric bypass patient herself), are THE BEST! They are truly wonderful and obviously care a great deal about the patients.
They have an excellent support group I attend.
I wasn't particularly impressed with Dr. Johnell the first time I met him. I thought he was pretty "matter of fact." However, he was very informative and seemed knowlegeable. He explained the pros & cons, but didn't go into alot of detail. Maybe he assumed I had done my homework (which I had).
The office staff seemed real friendly and helpful even over the phone. However, returning calls to confirm information even when asked, I felt, was very poor customer service.
So far we haven't talked too much about after care. I was given a large pamphlet that covered after care in detail.
They have three support groups. There is one support group that has just started for the Lapband technic and two support groups for the Bypass surgery which meet on the first and third Monday of each month. I haven't had a chance to attend yet.
I think that Dr. Johnell depends on his Bariatric Nurse to go over all this information which she did.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Johnell and his staff about an 7 (very good). I would prefer a lot more patient friendliness. However, I do feel confident that Dr. Johnell will take good care of me for this surgery and beyond.
I am now 2 weeks post-op and am very pleased I chose Dr. Johnelle and his staff over the other bariatric surgeon in our area. Dr. Johnell is very concerned and answers all my questions. I think you need to be a serious patient because he is a serious doctor and this surgery should never be taken lightly. I give Doctor Johnelle an over-all 9 instead of a 7 now.
When I went for my initial office visit, I felt Dr. Johnell to be skillful, knowledgeable, concerned, and interested in my thoughts, questions, concerns. I also found his RN Patrice to be as concerned and knowlegeable. The office staff was great!
Dr. Johnell has both a post-op and aftercare program. He is absolutely insistent on laying out all benefits as well as risks of the surgery. He & Patrice were both patient with my many questions.
Although I live in another part of the state, the doctors who perform this surgery here do no take any type of insurance, so I researched through the net doctors in my state who did and who were in the network. Dr. Johnell was my choice.
He has much experience with this type of procedure.
I will have my Pre-Op class with Patrice & my Pre-Op appointment with Dr. Johnell on December 3 and 16 2002, with my surgery scheduled for December 20, 2002. I am excited and nervous. I have done extensive research on the RNY procedure, so I am aware of the surgical process. I also have a support group where I work and in our local hospital. My family is 100% behind me as well.
Yeah I have been approved and am soon to start my new beginning.. Dr Johnell's staff is so cool and so imformative.. His wife Pat went over everything point by point and made sure I understood it all.. she was a dream.. then comes Dr. Johnell and he was up front and to the point.. he told me that I will die with out this surgery and it scared me straight, confirming that I was making the right decesion to go ahead with this surgery. he went over all the risks and told me that with my weight and lupus that the risks are higher with my surgery.. I am sure I am doing the right thing and they pushed it right through.. Connie his scheduler got my approval viva phone and asked how soon I wanted to have the surgery and I said asap and guess what it's in 16 days.. now that is asap.. thank you Dr. Johnell and staff for being there..
I have met with Patric and Dr. Johnell. I felt very comfortable with both. The office staff is very nice and always friendly. I was very informed on the process from researching the internet and am very aware of risk, ect. The program is very structured and does offer aftercare progam, support, ect.
