I met Dr. Johnell on 9/16/02. I liked him alot. He was personable but professional. He was very focused on getting all the information about me needed to make a decision as to whether or not I should have the surgery. As of right now it's still up in the air. He is going to talk to some other surgeons about me and the meds I take for lupus and whether or not I could safely have this surgery. I am very pleased with Dr. Johnell and his staff.

He seemed like a very nice person during the consiltations. In the hospital I was in extreme pain. I felt like I was dieing.
I was still having alot of pain even 3 weeks after the surgury, I wen't to him for help with the pain he basicly told me I was on my own and told me to my face (in not so many words) that I was lieing about the pain I was in, even in the hospital. He told me this to my face! The nerve! He never wen't through the surgury or the pain, so he had no right to tell me how much I was in.
I had 2 surgurys prior to the surgery and he told me that this had nothing to do with my pain! Oh and he told me to exercize even if it Hurts real bad, no pain no gain he said. Now excuse me I am no doctor but if it hurts your suposed to stop. You should feel the burn but not pain.
I would only recament him if you can handle pain really really well. If you can't go else where. The staff that he works with are all very friendly and nice They work really well toghether, ever=n the doctors wife Patrice is a complete doll.

I am very pleased with Dr. Johnell and his staff. They have been very encouraging, and even when it looked like I might not be able to have the surgery, Dr. Johnell did some more research and worked things out. Patrice has been very helpful with the nutrition information. The office staff has always returned my calls, and when I had a medical question Dr. Johnell followed my strings of phone numbers (home, work, cell), until he reached me. That's pretty impressive for a doctor who is busy.

My first impression of Dr. Johnell was knowing and feeling his warm heart in what he does for others. Not only is he a specialized professional at this surgery, he cares for each individual patient that he is going to do surgery or has done the surgery. His spouse, Patrica Johnell also has a great role in this procedure. She researches everything prior to ever handing any information to the patients. She is always open for questions and suggestions. She is such a important part in this procedure on what type of vitamins, minerals and other supplements that you should take prior to surgery and after surgery. Dr.and Patricia Johnell's aftercare programs are so awesome. If you follow what they say and ask of you, you should have absolutely no problems. They know there are risks that can and do happen no matter how specialized the surgeon and his staff may be. They both are very upfront about any risks that you will be up against during and after surgery, Dr. Johnell makes sure that you understand all the risks, he also makes it clear of all other options you may have other than this particular type of surgery, he explains all of that in detail on and one one basis. I would rate both Dr. Johnell and Patrica Johnell a "10" on a scale of 1-10.

He is a nice dr- his friendly warm staff is what sets his whole practice apart. They are wnderful. His wife, Patrice, is a bariatric nurse specialist and has much information on nutrition & offers her support not only for medical issues but for emotonal ones as well. She even gives out her pager #. As a surgeon, Dr. Johnell explains everyithing in a way you can understand. While in the hospital, he was very attentave.

My first impression of him was a good one, or I probably would have got another surgeon.
So far his staff is awesome. They have been very helpful. I still need to get more info from him.
WELL I MET WITH DR JOHNELL AND PATRICE FOR MY LAST PRE OP APPT AND I MUST SAY I FELT A LOT BETTER ABOUT MY DECISION. DR JOHNELL DOENST SUGAR COAT THIS PROCEDURE AT ALL. HE TELLS YOU LIKE IT IS WHICH IS GOOD, BUT IT IS ALSO A LITTLE SCARY. HE DOES A VERY GOOD JOB EXPLAINING EVERYTHING THAT WILL GO ON. PATRICE ALSO DOES A WONDERFUL JOB. I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT IN WHAT SHE SAID, AND I FEEL LIKE THE INFORMATION THAT SHE GIVES YOU IS SO COMPLETE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND DR JOHNELL AND HIS STAFF. I WILL LET YOU KNOW MORE AFTER MY SURGERY ON 4-16.

I met with Dr. Johnell and the nutritionist Patrice for the first time today. They both seem to know what they're doing (thank goodness). I was comfortable with the people in this office.

Now that I've been thru surgery and am at home, I'd like to add more insights about Dr. Johnell. He is an excellent surgeon. Came to see me each day I was in the hospital, which was over a weekend. The nurses at NCMC gave the impression that Johnell was fairly strict in his orders to them. I have a follow-up appointment with him next Monday - 1 week after discharge. I had questions about hair loss and his nurse sent me info on supplements I can start taking right away. I would rate this experience excellent and I highly recommend this surgeon.

My first impression was that he cared about me and my health at the present. Didn't rush me through, he had a lot of questions and was patient answering my questions.
Very friendly office staff. Since this was my first ime visiting him I have't decided what I like least about him.
He has a group of professionals that work with him, nurses, dieticians, etc that will meet with me before I have my surgery and do my opst op as well.
He did address the risks fo surgery as well as the risks I will have if I don't have the surgery.
