I first met Dr. Miles at a support group meeting at Medical Center East. I was very impressed because after the meeting he stayed to discuss personal questions with anyone who had any. He was a down to earth type of guy who seemed to really care about his patients. In his office he treated me with respect. He made sure I was aware of the risks involved but he didn't think there would be any problems and he made me feel confident that I had chosen the right surgeon.

Met Dr. Miles at the seminar and listened to him speak about the surgery, etc...I liked him right away, but it wasn't until afterwards, as we were standing in lines to make our appts., that I noticed he was still hanging around. He was just sitting on the edge of the table, chatting with the people and answering more questions. I thought, WOW!, this guy might actually be a regular person! So as of right now, I'd say I'm very impressed with him. That might change down the road, and if it does, I'll post it right here!

I have met Dr. Miles only for a short time. He was someone that my PCP and I selected based on the information that we had about the different programs in the area. The staff and office seemed to be quite efficient and well qualified. I found the psychologist to use appropriate assessment instruments in his assessment. This is my area of expertise, so I feel strongest about commenting on the appropriatness of this area. I was disappointed in the psychologist academic preparation and his ability to provide feedback to me. The other professionals in the pre-op evaluation were excellent from what I could tell and what I researched about them.

First impression was he knew what he was talking about...and actually cared about me as a person...not just a patient...office staff is wonderful and completely on board to help you through the entire process...didn't think any bad thought while in office...but as soon as I left, I realized many question weren't answered that I wished were...but I called to get my answer...and the questions were fully answered the way I needed them to be...He made sure to let me know the risk...but most anybody knows going into this surgery the risk already...so I didn't take it hard...it was just reitterated to me

After my surgery, the staff has been amazing...Debra called me to make sure everything was ok, and I just feel like part of a family...I loved going through Dr. Miles

Dr. Miles was the speaker at my first seminar and I really enjoyed listening to him - I am very thankful he is my Doctor. He is also very easy to talk to - a big plus!

His staff - the main one I have dealt with is Debra - I LOVE HER! She is sooo helpful and gets things "rolling" fast! She deals with the insurance companies and sets you up with everything - like your surgery date! When you call however and ask for Debra, she is sometimes difficult to reach - busy lady! Dr. Miles' office is VERY thorough - you do lots before you get a date! Sleep apnea test, psychological evaluation, nutrition class, support class, blood work, EKG.....I think this is a good thing. They really want the best for all!

Dr. Miles is a very able surgeon. I have been quite impressed with the results of my surgery. My only qualms about Dr. Miles is the lack of follow up care. I have only been back to his office once ( to have staples removed). I thought that I would have had at least one more visit. I have to go back in 3 months.

The office staff is very nice and helpful. They could do a little better in helping people obtain surgery dates. I had to make a nuisance of myself to get scheduled. It took from August 18 until December 1st to get scheduled. They could make the steps that one needs to take more clear. I spent alot of time wondering what was taking so long.

Dr. Miles is very concerned with the patient knowing the risks involved, and knowing that the surgery is not a magic pill for weight loss.

The hospital has a weight loss surgery program that is seperate from the surgeon's office. They are helpful, but they could stand to coordinate with each other a little more.

Dr. Miles is a competent surgeon and did a wonderful job on me. His bedside manner was correct, but could have stood to be a little more personable. His lack of a structured aftercare program is a little concering to me, but I haven't had any complications.

Overall, I would and have recomended Dr. Miles to others. I feel much better about him 4 weeks after my surgery. I really think his practice could be better with more follow up after surgery.

He was very to the point, had a lot of patients waiting, but overall nice. I won't meet him again until this Wednesday, so I can't say yet whether my impression has changed. Office staff was OK.
I haven't meet him long enough to develop a dislike of him yet. Their program is very structured and some people don't like that. Their program's printed information does emphasize periodic followups and they have a support group that meets twice a month, we had to go to one of those before getting a surgery date and it did seem like it was very helpful to the post-op patients who attended. Dr. Miles did address the risks of the surgery and repeatedly asked if I had any questions about any of the risks. This is a second surgery for me and although my first surgeon (for a breast reduction years ago) was very personable, I did see him more. Surgical competence is always better to me, I don't need a nice guy messing up on me.

My first appointment was at 1:00pm and I didn't get seen until about 2:30 or 3:00pm and the nurse assigned to my area of the hall was not very forthcoming about why the wait was so long. I had class that afternoon and was worried I would miss and the nurse got nasty when I asked if I needed to re-schedule because I had to be at school at 4:30pm (something about the patient with the emergency appreciating my patience if how would I feel if it was the other way around or my family). Now she was not likeable at all, I have never been talked to like that by anyone in a supposed service position. Both surgeons were in surgery on an emergency (which always seems to happen when you have an office appointment with a surgeon no matter what kind of surgeon). I didn't mind that I had to wait, I do mind being made to feel like they are doing me a favor by letting me wait. I could have gone to another doctor.
I don't have much else critical to say yet and hope I don't find anything else as he will be operating on me.

Very impressed with Dr. Miles, he really cares. My impression overtime did not changes except for the good. The office staff is nice, but could use some better manners towards patients. I had no complaints about Dr. Miles.
Dr. Miles is upfront and honest about this surgery the risks and the benefits he makes sure his patients are well informed.
He is very on top of the aftercare and really insists on the patient being up and walking. He addresses the surgery risks over and over, and I would rate Dr. Miles an excellent Doctor.

They are both great!!

I ran into an old friend in May and hardly recognized her because she had lost 109lbs in a year. Dr. Miles did her surgery and she just raved about him and his staff. I first saw Dr. Miles at a free seminar I went to in June. He was very informative and honest with all the questions and answers. On my first visit to him in July, he said he requires all his patients to lose some weight before the surgery. I was to lose 15 lbs. I'm still working on that. I had lost about 10 lbs by the middle of September and then Hurricane Ivan hit and the power went out. Needless to say, we cleaned out the refrigerator and ate way too much. Now I've lost about 7-8 lbs. I have two weeks to my pre-op visit and the 15 lbs must be off by then or he will postpone the surgery. I guess that is the one thing I do not like about Dr. Miles. I hear his partner and other surgeons do not require weight loss before the surgery. I have attended a nutrition class, support group meeting, another sleep study and evaluation by a psychologist. I feel I am now well informed about what it will take to live healthy after the surgery. Still very nervous about going under the knife but well informed.

Hi when going to the seminar on 08-21-2004 I knew by hearing Dr. Miles explain the surgery and procedure that he was the one I needed. He explained the procedure and he stated the facts about risks and benefits. After going to the office everyone was so nice. I really fell in love with Debra, she took to me and I took to her like a mother figure. I had to call Tracy a numerous times to get FMLA paperwork filed, she was always nice and prompt about getting it down and sent back to me. I have talked with Dawn several times, All and all I think those are some great people. I do not have a date yet but real soon now.
