Joseph Kuhn Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

How do I describe Dr. Kuhn?...he is extremely kind and caring. Very easy to talk to. He made me feel cared about, and I trust him. We discussed everything in detail and he went slow...no rushing me. Treated me as if I were the only person he had on his schedule. He has a wonderful staff!
Dr. Kuhn feels that aftercare is very important. He has a total aftercare program to encourage, support & guide you through anything at any stage. His office has set up a yahoo group just for his patients so that we can talk with each other, his staff & himself 24/7 There is also a monthly support group meeting with guest speakers, etc. I thank the Lord for guiding me to Dr. Kuhn. I couldn't be in better hands. He's a highly trained surgeon and has vast experience in the difficult large & complicated surgeries. He has done this type of surgery for 20 years already because of his specialty in cancer surgery of the stomach and he explained that this WLS isn't that much different. I wanted the best, most talented, experienced and with an excellent record at an incredible facility...and I do!

Dr. Kuhn is a very soft spoken, calm man. This is exactly what I needed because I get freaked out and nervous really easily. The office staff is great, just extremely busy. The aftercare program is absolutely wonderful! They are in the process of opening up the obesity center July 1. Dr. Kuhn stresses and expects all of his patients to join in on all the aftercare program and meetings. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I would definitely rate Dr. Kuhn an 11 on a scale of 1-10. His bedside manner is great and so is his surgical competence. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon!

03-15-02 I went to the seminar last night and I am so impressed and so anxious to get started. Dr Kuhn and Dr McCarty were both very informative and gave both sides of the procedure and explained it very well. I turned in all my paperwork to Chris and expect to hear from him and my insurance hopefuuly by the week of April 11th. After attending the seminar I am even more convinced that I have chosen the right path!

03-04-02 I went to my PCP today and she will get me the referral to Dr Kuhn and will also write my letter of medical necessity. One more hurdle crossed!!! I believe I am becoming obsessed with WLS.............02-28-02 I received my letter from Dr Kuhn's office saying I am going to the Mar 14th seminar and I need to bring my insurance card and documentation of at least two physician supervised weight loss programs. I finally feel I have started my journey. I know I still have a LONG way to go but it is so exciting to think this is going to happen. I am very anxious to meet him and his staff.

I was required to attend a seminar before getting an appointment with the surgeon. The seminar was very informative and Dr. Kuhn and Dr. McCarty both talked and answered questions. They have a presentation that shows the various versions of WLS and discussed their rather extensive aftercare program. I was impressed and would be happy with either surgeon. I look forward to the individual consult before making my final decision to proceed.

Hmmm, first impression.. My first impression of Dr. Kuhn he is a gentleman. Very kind. Very genuine. Very thorough in reviewing your records. I was very very pleased with him.

I was very impressed with Dr. Kuhn at my first visit. He answered all my questions and I never felt like he was trying to rush me out the door.When I had complications after the surgery with my Kidneys he made me feel so at ease. He told me that he was praying for me and not to worry. Dr. Kuhn is one of the best Doctors I have ever had.Both Dr. Kuhn and Dr. McCarty were recognized as two of the TOP 200 Doctors in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area.He has a wonderful bedside manner and I was very confident that I had chose the best surgeon. Dr. Kuhn and Dr. McCarty have created a great WLS program at Baylor Medical Center. We have monthly support meetings and they have added a Nutritionist, 2 Plastic Surgeons,OB/GYN and a Psychiatrist to the Baylor WLS group.All of these Doctors are familar with the problems that Weight loss patients may have.As a Baylor patient I have a Web site that is available to all Baylor weight loss patients and all of the above Doctors are available on the Web site to answer our questions. They have also started an exercise program at a discount price.

He is a very nice person working with a great group. I have a great deal of confidence in him. The office staff have been very helpful and understanding of the concerns that go along with this surgery. I would have liked to talk to him more before surgery, but he pretty well leaves this up to his staff. They have answered my questions to my satisfaction though, and I know he is very busy. The after care program is very good and they even allow pre-ops such as I am to come to the meetings. All in all I don't think it would be possible to find a better or more completely thought out group to go with. Surgical competence would be my greatest concern.

Dr. Kuhn is an experianced surgeon and has a very kind disposition. He also gets rave reviews from former patients.

First of all I have a great Dr. and would like to thank him for giving my life back to me!!
My first impression of Dr. Kuhn was, he listened to me and he let me ask all the Qustions I needed to and was very straight forward about everything
and to this day I am glad that I ended up with him, he is so understanding and reassuring.
The office staff is great also if I call and need something they take care of me, or if I leave a message they will call me right back Chris is wonderful!
Dr. Kuhn will tell you everything you need to know about the surgery and about after your surgery but he does expect you to follow all of his directions. And at your first consaltation he is great about telling you all the risk that are involved
but he also reassures you on the percentages on outcomes. I personally give him a 9 because no one is perfect He makes you feel good about the outcome and his bedside manners are great he came and seen me and talked to my husband for a long time while we were in the holding area
getting ready to go into surguery and reassured me again that everything would be fine. If you choose him I think you will be happy!!! And of course he uses the best hospital around Baylor is outstanding if I ever need surgery again it will be there!
