MY GOD, HE'S SO YOUNG! UPON MEETING DR. ARANOW YOU SEE A CARING, COMPASSIONATE,HIGHLY KNOWLEDGEABLE DOCTOR WHO IS IN YOUR CORNER. HE'S THERE FOR YOU. THIS OFFICE STAFF IS GREAT,ESPECIALLY LOIS WHO IS THERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AND SET UP YOUR APPOINTMENTS. THERE IS NOTHING I DON'T LIKE ABOUT DR. ARANOW. IF YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND DON'T INTEND TO FOLLOW IT TO THE TEE DR. ARANOW MAY NOT PERFORM THE SURGERY. YOU MUST BE READY NOT ONLY PHYSICALLY, BUT MENTALLY. AFTERCARE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DR. ARANOW, YOU ARE HIS PATIENT AND HE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. DR.ARANOW CONDUCTS A GROUP MEETING WITH ALL PROSPECTIVE PATIENTS AND SHOWS A FILM ALONG WITH EXPLAINING THE WHOLE PROGRAM. OVERALL I HOPE TO RATE HIM A HIGHLY COMPETENT AND CARING DOCTOR. SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS FIRST WITH BEDSIDE MANNER A CLOSE SECOND.

I thought he was quite detailed in his information meeting that I attended. He answered every question concievable, left no stone unturned.

The meeting in the office was late in the day, much later than scheduled, I was the last one to be seen, so I think that, that had something to do with with the appointment. He was nice, just not what I expected.

The staff was fine, his right hand lady very warm.

Support group is mandatory.

Waiting for dietician ans psych eval. Two months or sooner for a date, according to Dr.

I met Dr. Aranow for the first time during a group meeting. I was very impressed with his presentation. He tells you like it is. He actually trys to talk you out of it!! This is a tactic to make sure you are serious about taking this major step in your life. In his presentation he emphasizes how important it is to follow his aftercare program.

When I met with Dr. Aranow I was very impressed by his thoroughness. He took the time to talk with me and answer any questions that I had and covered things that I was not aware of. He is very compassionate
as are his office workers. I have been shopping around for the right doc to do my
surgery and I felt, after I met him, I would not look any further. I have complete faith and trust in him. His support group is wonderful, as are his nutritionist (Amy) and
his Psychiatrist. Middlesex Hospital has a
very complete and thorough program.
I could find nothing that I disliked about him or his staff.
His emphasis is strong on aftercare if one wants the results that they are striving for. If you are not going to follow through he stresses that he will not do the surgery.
He has turned people away if they are not
candidates for the surgery. I rate him and his staff as a 10. His program is very structured and well thought of. He stresses patient care and he has a wonderful reputation as a surgeon. As pre-surgery I could find nothing wrong. This is my opinion.

Dr Aranow was very helpful with all of my questions. He made me feel very comfortable with myself. His office staff is very helpful. I have been going to that group for many years. I have many medical problems that have needed surgery for in the past. The nurses and staff are very helpful and careing. So far I have not found anything that I have not liked about him. He really went over the aftercare until I understood everything. He made me realize the aftercare would not be easy. He went over the risks of the surgery. He also went over the risks if I dont have the surgery. The only thing that I was conserned about was that I wont see him untill that morning of the surgery. I feel that if I do have a question then who do I ask. I am a employee at the same hospital as he so I have a advantage. So far I would recommend Dr Aronow to anyone.

My first impression of Dr, Arranow was that he was so young. However he was very thorough in going over the procedure, explaining every question I could have possibly had before me or my husband asked.
Dr. Arranow has a very structured program starting pre-op and following you for a full year post-op.
My overall inpression was excellent and I have no doubts that I have picked an excellent Dr.

Well I was originally set to see Dr. Aranow at the end of August. I got a call from his office around July 10th that he was now doing a pre-visit seminar so as to shorten the initail visit and get more done and if I attended I might be able to get an earlier appointment. I went to the seminar on July 18th and while there got an appointment for the next morning. Dr. Aranow was amazing (and yes as everyone says he looks very young), he gave a great talk and the visit was wonderful. He is very straight foward and answered all questions. He was more into telling it how it is versus giving you the textbook version of stuff. I am now doing all the pre=op stuff and getting ready. He stated that my insurance (cigna) is pretty good with approvals.

more to follow......

Dr. Aranow is the best surgeon. He was named top surgeon in Ct by Connecticut Magazine. He takes time to listen to you. He has a list of pre-op instructions that you must complete before he will obtain insurance approval. You must attend at least one of his support group meeting, meet with a psychiatrist, aa nutritionist, and have any other medical tests that he deems necessary. His staff is wonderful. They make you feel at home. He addresses all risks of surgery.
When he heard that I had developed blood clots he was in Las Vegas for a bariatric convention, he almost flew home, but instead, called the hospital every day to check-up on me.( I had my very competant regular medical doctor treating me for this complication.)
I have found the support group extremely helpful. Our group keeps growing and growing. The only problem is that I am the only patient with blood clots, so I don't have anyone to talk to. If any one has gone through this, please contact me. I would love to talk to anyone that shares this experience.

He seemed very professional, down to earth, non-judgemental. I was thorough and explained everything. He took time to listen to my questions, concerns and fears. He was very re-assuring. I felt he was a champion for this procedure.

The office staff has been fine. They took care of the insurance.

I can't think of anything I didn't like. The only suggestions I could make is to have a pre-op meeting before actually being in the hospital, but I'm not really sure if anything would be gained by that. It just seems a bit strange to not see him again until the day of.

I would recommend Dr. Aranow at this point to anyone.

He seemed to emphasize aftercare quite a bit. There is a support group that meets at the hospital bi-weekly, which has been helpful pre-op and I suspect will be even more so post-op.

At this point I would rate him a 9.

July 15, 2002 is the day that will change my life forever..when Lois called & said it was all set, I cried & thanked her..THANK YOU LOIS, ANG & DR. A..your the best..

May 31, 2002-Closing in the surgery itself. Spoke with Pat today about setting up a surgery date. I am still waiting for Dr. Huded's office to send over the report regarding my Endo. Dr. Huded called me last week said everything was fine. So far I still have to say that my dealings with Dr. Aranow's staff is great! I feel sorry for them though b/c I know that it is busy as heck. I try not to call & bother them a lot. I have only called them 3xs. Pat said that I am not a bother, but you know they are doing there best to please A LOT of people so I try to be patient. Thanks to all of them!

April 2002-After 4 months of working with Dr. Valin and all of the out of pocket expenses that I have incurred with a dietician and psych evaluation, I was only a few weeks away from my surgery when I received a devastating call. Dr. Valin's office informed me that suddenly Dr. Valin decided to no longer accept my insurance and basically I was out of luck, goodbye! I was so heartbroken, I cried.

I found Dr. Aranow, & his staff to be WONDERFUL...I met with him today (4/19/02). My impression was a very good one. He was VERY informative, which is more than I can say about the previous above mentioned Dr. Also, he was very friendly, you feel like he is a regular guy who just happens to be a really great surgeon. I felt like he was on on my level and not condescending in any way. He seems very caring, understanding and sympathetic, let's face it, it stinks being like this right? Don't let that fool you though, because he also will evaluate to really make sure your suitable, which I think is a good sign he cares!

Anyway, I am really excited about Dr. Aranow, he also has a WONDERFUL staff, Angie & Lois are great! So I look forward to the future with this competent group of people!
