Well I haven't actually had my appointment yet, but I went to the information session and I must say I was very very impressed. Dr. Aranow was very informative very thorough
He really knows his stuff. I left feeling very confident all of my questons were answered all of my fears put to ease. I feel very comfortable with having him as my surgeon. I met with a couple others, but no one compares. He explained all of the risks and compications and the way he explained everything I know that he goes the extra distance to make sure everything goes as smooth as possible. I know that in a few months from now as long as everything goes smoothly as far as insurance and all the tests and everything that I will be back to say first hand that he did an excellent job.
So far I would recommend anyone looking for a surgeon or anyone seeking information this is the right surgeon to talk to.
I had my first meeting with Dr. Aranow on 12/23/02 and was very pleased with how competent he and his staff seemed to be. Dr. Aranow answered all of my questions patiently and completely. I did attend a general meeting before sitting down with Dr. Aranow. This is a mandatory general meeting that gives you a good overview of the RNY and his practices. I found this very imformative and thorough. He also requires that you attend the support group at the hospital before you receive your surgery. He definitely stressed that if he did not feel you were ready for the surgery he would not operate on you. I am happy that he takes this operation and what he does so seriously because I would not want to have a surgery done by someone that sees a paycheck only or has no understanding of this life changing event. His heart was definitely in what he does. He is on the younger side, but I was not in anyway concerned with this. I actually consider this to be an asset, because people do get set in their ways unwilling to accept a new methodology.
Went to an info session run by Dr. Aranow. My 1st impression of him was "OMG it's Doogie Howser". He's very young, but has been rated CT's #1 surgeon, so ...
I have my consult on August 29th, so will get more of a personal impression then. So far the office staff has been very helpful. Aftercare is one of the most important aspects for Dr. Aranow. His comment was that he would be part of our lives forever. The support group meetings are held every other week and are well attended, sometimes with 100 or more people. He fully explained all the risks (and benefits) of all surgeries offered, and I left with no unanswered questions.
My first impression of Dr. Aranow was that he was very knowledgeable and committed to this surgery, and that feeling has only been reinforced. I had surgery on Nov. 21, 2002 and he's been great. I made 2 calls to his office after surgery with questions and was promptly called back. Lois - the nurse who handles all the patient info for this surgery - is awesome. All paperwork was handled by the office. I never had to do a thing except get my PCP to write a letter of medical necessity. Dr. Aranow's bedside manner is just as good as his competence. He never rushes you. I would highly recommend this office to anyone in CT wanting surgery - of any kind.
Really liked him. Gave me alot of information on surgical procedure, diet and the whole program following surgery. Has one nurse that deals with his patients and they provide information, support and encourage patients to call anytime with questions or looking for information.
he has a very structured before and after surgery program.
I have already reccommended him to three other people who have gone to him and are waiting for surgical dates.
my first impression of him was he seemed to be very kind. He also looks very young, but seems very gentle. I've only met him 2 x so far the first he stopped in on a support group meeting and the 2nd was tonight at a info session on the surgery and I still got the same impression of him tonight. Some of his office staff was there at the info session and they seemed very nice I know that I've talked to them over the phone and they were always very helpful and courteous with me. I can't say that I dislike anything about him in this stage of the game I think that he's very sincere in the things he says and he seems to really care about his patients it really seems like he wants them to succeed as much as we want to. He was very informative about all the risks he also made sure that we all understood them he was very willing to answer any questions that we had and didn't seem to hesitate to tell us like it is. Though he is the only surgeon that I've seen and I attended his support groups many time before I even met him I don't think that at this point I would change him for anyother doctor he definately doesn't seem like he will just perform the surgery for the bucks he seems genuienly concerned of all his patients. I think I would definately rate him at least an 8 but at this point a 10 for me.
I met with Dr. Aronow Friday and we went over some test that I need to do which I'm sure everyone is well aware of my opinion of Dr Aronow still has not changed I beleive that he really does care about his patients. I should start getting calls to set up my appointments and hopefully be on my way. My insurance is going to be the big hurdle hopefully with all the positive coverage this operation has been getting over the media will help there decision to be more positive.
Before choosing my surgeon, I did my homework and researched his experience, etc. on the internet, through former patients, and through connections I had to the hospital where he operates. Not one person had a negative word to say about him. I waited 4 mos. for my initial consultation during which I found Dr. Aranow to be caring, informative and very knowledgable. Before the initial consultation, all his patients are required to attend an informational group meeting. Any questions I had that had not been answered through my own research were answered at this meeting, so I really had no unanswered questions for him during my consultation. He went over all the requirements for before and after surgery and explained why post-surgery support group meetings are mandatory. Based on everything I have learned about Dr. Aranow, I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in this surgery.
I called Dr. Aranow's office after giving up my battle with Dr. Valin's office over a bill not covered by my insurance. He denied the services over a mistake on their part. My first appointment with Dr. Aranow was 10/29. I met him before that on a group meeting that he had. I was very impressed with all the information he provided. Hopefully this time I will get the surgery done. He seems to be very concerned about my weightloss and provided me with different options for my surgery. The staff was very professional and attentive. I liked that! :-)
My impression of Dr. Aranow is that he really cares for his patients. He gives them a 100% of his attention. He and his office staff (especially Lois), are kind and understanding. You never feel rushed or like you are bothering them. What I really like about Dr. Aranow is that he tells you like it is! He doesn't make everything all rosey, he's quite honest and tells you things you may not want to hear.
I am eight months post op now and I'm doing great. If you listen to Dr. Aranow and follow what he tells you. Along with attending the support group, and talking to other post ops and Amy and Kim (who run the support group). You will do well.
I was at an advantage for the surgery, because I work at the hospital and had a very good understanding about the surgery and what the post op would be.
