My impression was like so many others, Wow he is very young. He got straight to the point, every stone was turned over. My husband was very optimistic about the surgery, but after the orientation it was like the wool was lifted off his eyes. All my thoughts and commects about Dr. Aranow are all so positive. I know i am in the best of care with him.
I am somewhat of an unusual case. I met Dr Aranow after my wife had a RNY done on 9/17/01. I was very aware of what complications there were, and the benefits of surgery also. He was very young, and not what I had expected in a man of his talents.
Lois is fantastic. A woman who knows just how to get things done. And very supportive.
I can find nothing negative to say about the entire experience. The care, aftercare, and support have made this journey so wonderful.
If someone came to me and told me that I would gain weight if I did not get a revision of the procedure, I would RUN from East Haddam and be blocking the OR door to be sure I was the next person to have the procedure. And I would trust Dr. Aranow to do it again and again if necessary.
I have spent hours reading and reading about Dr. Aranow, so I was prepared for him to look young and to be very personable. Even so, my husband and I were very impressed with his knowledge, his concern, and the fact that we felt he was talking directly to us and not at us. He is proud of his medical statistics and takes every caution so that he can remain tops in his profession. During the first meeting with him, he addressed every concern that I had, and some I hadn't thought of yet. He is very professional, but also displays a great sense of humour.
He is adament that to be his patient, you have to do things exactly as he tells you, or you will not remain his patient. Be that preparing for surgery and with the aftercare after the surgery is complete. He stresses that this is not an overnight miracle, and that it requires a lifetime commitment.
I researched several surgeons in CT, and am completely, 100% convinced that Dr. Aranow is the best choice.
Lois and Stacy were very helpful while I was talking to them. They are very knowledgeable and helpful.
He seemed too young to be so good.
It was evident that he was well trained and informed of the proceedure, and confident in himself. Yet, did not have the typical "GOD COMPLEX" that Dr's often have.
The office staff is great. Very helpful and friendly. Did ALL the "leg work".
I have absolutely no complaints about him. He was fabulous!
Trust him, and do what he says.
He is very firm about aftercare. He stresses the importance, and says he is available anytime for your needs.
Yes. A set schedule of visits as well as support group meetings.
He presented all sides of the process. Good and bad. Also showed charts and talked about the risks of having it, and of NOT having it. Opened up the discussion to questions and answered them in language all could understand.
I would rate Dr. Aranow as A+ if that is the highest I could go.
Both are very important, but surgical competence would have to come first. What good is bedside manner if you are dead?
I met Dr. Aranow at the orientation meeting 5/03. I was extremely impressed. First impression was "Wow, is he YOUNG", LOL! He really does know what he's talking about and is quite passionate about what he does. He doesn't dance around the facts and what impressed me most was that he will NOT take you as a patient if he doesn't trust you to follow through with the post op regimen completely. The orientation was very thorough going through facts and figures about obesity, the types of surgeries, why he doesn't do Lap RNY, whose is and isn't a candidate for Lab Band surgery, and then going through what RNY surgery is. Aftercare and support group involvement are mandatory for his patients (which is what I was looking for) and he demands that you put your effort into this. As for the office staff, I have only had a quick phone call to go by, but from what everyone here says, they are awesome :)

Met with Dr Aranow today.. Didn't have a whole lot to talk about because his required 2 hour info meeting answered all my questions and more. This consultation was his turn to ask me questions. He did perform a brief exam and sent me on my way with my checklist of pre-op duties and appts.. He answered the few questions I did have thouroughly and I didn't feel rushed at all. His office staff was busy but pleasant..I did have a question I phoned in with and the woman I spoke with did have just the slightest of attitudes. But who knows maybe she was having a bad day. she answered my question just fine.
Dr. Aranow and his whole office are probably the most supportive people I've ever met in my entire life. I went in there today for my two year check up, knowing that I had gained a few pounds, expecting him to be upset, and he just smiled and showed me how to get back on track. His office staff are the most wonderful people on this earth. They greet me with a smile every time, and even know me by name. This is the best feeling in the world, and they're always commenting on progress, telling me how great I look and everything. My impression of Dr. Aranow hasn't changed, I still think he's an excellent doctor, and an even better person. When I had problems after my surgery, he and his staff got me an appointment as soon as possible. Overall, Dr. Aranow is a terrific doctor, and has great surgical competence, and bedside manner.
Dr Aranow was a soft spoken man whom seemed very thorough and contiencious. He really does not want to be a butcher and makes sure everything is in order before he will consider surgery. He was very pleasent and took time to answer questions , also gave you the impression of a very impressive dr. whom cares about his pts.. The office staff very very pleasent and office well kept. I feel I made a great choice with this team. I did get the impression that he takes your questioner very serious, and maybe overreacted a bit before really getting to know me. I guess thats where he leaves it up to the other Drs. feedback to come in place. This was discourageing to me.
My impression of Dr. Aranow is that he is highly skilled and a perfectionist, which is a really good thing since he has to do my surgery: )) I have only meet him at the seminar and one time at the office visit, he seamed very busy but also organized in his information about me. The seminar was very organized and informative and the support groups is very useful. I had an option to have the surgery with another doctor but I feel more secure with Dr. Aranow.
The office staff seam genuine caring and helpful but are also very busy.
I notice that the support programs is growing and I feel an overall sense that the "team" is striving to continue to improve, I believe that the aftercare is extremely important for all of us to succeed. ~Tove
My first impression of Dr Aranow was that he was a 'no nonsense' guy. He did not mince his words and told you exactly what he thought. His two hour seminar was so thorough. He left nothing to chance. He gave me the confidence I needed to go ahead with my decision of surgery. In the hospital he was warm and caring and again thorough. I wouldn't think of going to anyone but him.
