So far, I have absolutely no complaints about either Dr.Schram, or his staff and office. I was comfortable with him and his staff, and with the office. I was treated very nice and courteous. Everyone was understanding and they were not judgememtal. I would rate Dr. Schram and his staff and office, on a scale from 1-10, it would be a 9.

I went to Dr. Schram with a list of Questions to ask, within five minutes he answered every question I had without me asking even one.He has done over 8oo bariatric surgeries,I was comfortable with that number of surgeries. He ought to know what he's doing by the time he gets to me..His staff was friendly, they have been keeping in touch with me each step of the way. They always let me know what will be happening next.

Dr. Schram was weonderful. Very informative on my consultation. Answered all of my questions. Upfront and honest.
Before surgery he prayed with me which was very comforting, since I was pretty scared.
I would reccomend him to anyone.

I cant say enough about Dr.Schram. He is a wonderful person. I felt he really cared about me. Made me feel like a person. He prayed with me and my husband before surgery. He checked on me every day and had the time to listen to my concerns. He did not seem to be in a rush. I think anyone is lucky to have him a surgeon. Everyone in his office is also very kind and helpful. The follow up care I feel is very good. I am only 2 weeks post-op. But any questions I have had his office staff was willing to to answer, both pre-op as well as post-op. Any time that they would fax something to me they would write something personal on the cover sheet, like "I will be thinking of you" or "Good luck". That just makes you feel better.

Wow, I had my consult with Dr. Pop, and then found out he has moved to Ypisi as the Head of Bariatric Surgery. I get to go for my PAT's on June 23 and meet Dr. Schram for the first time. I've heard GREAT things about him so I am not worried at all!

I met Dr. Schram. He seems to be a great guy, and I feel comfortable having him do my surgery. He made me completely at ease with what I'm going to do.

Ok, for the questions next to this little box I'm typing in, lol:
What was your first impression of him/her? I think Dr. Schram is a great guy. He didn't act like any of the questions I was asking were stupid or anything.

How did your impression change over time? Well, I've only seen him one time so far, so it hasn't changed yet, lol.

How would you describe his/her office staff? The people at BTC-Holland/GrandHaven were all very friendly.

What did you like least about him/her? I don't think there was anything not to like.

What should future patients know about him/her? That even if he sounds like he's not listening, he is. He answered my mom's questions and mine, even when we both said different things at the same time.

How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?I've only been to one meeting so far, so I don't know yet.

Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? See above question. He DID suggest a bunch of support groups.

How did he/she address the risks of surgery? Very honestly. He told me the risks, the rates and his own personal percentages, as well as the percentages of BTC compared to national rates.

How would you rate him/her overall? So far, excellent.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside
manner, or both great? Surgical competence, definitely, but a good bedside manner is always a bonus. Even if I didn't like his manner, based on performance, this would still be the man to do my surgery.

So far my review is 100% positive, but that's only because I've only had one meeting with Dr. Schram. I'm sure eventually I will find a flaw, lol.

Disclaimer:This is my own personal opinion. Other may or may not agree with me. :)

I was happy to finally meet him and speak to him about the surgery. He was very open and honest, telling me everything I could expect from surgery. The staff was very nice and was a great help to me. After reading his testimonials, I know he is the right surgeon for me. I'll update after surgery

I liked Dr Schram, but felt like he was not as attentive as I would like. I know that the surgeons must give the same speech over and over, but I think they should still realize that the customer is hearing it for the first time...I will report more as I have more interactions with him. I'm 5 weeks post op now, and have the same feelings. Dr Schram was very competent, and I appreciated his praying before the surgery. I think he is very nice, but very very busy. I wonder now if he was so busy due to BC/BS not paying for surgeries after April 30th, and BTC was trying to herd as many people through as possible...

I am extremely pleased with this Surgeon. He is compassionate and caring. He was very calm. He prayed with me just before they put me under. He is always happy with my results on follow visits. He always tells me I am doing a great job of staying with the program. I feel pumped up after an office visit with him. The entire staff in this office is very encouraging and supportive of their patients.

I will be visiting with Dr. Schram on February 21. So far, Sue Ewing is the only person I have been in contact with at the BTC in Ypsilanti, MI. And she has been absolutely wonderful---friendly, informative and extremely helpful.

I met with Dr. Schram on 2/21. He was very pleasant and easy going at first introduction and throughout the consultation. Everyone at the center was wonderful and made me feel at ease. I especially enjoyed talking with Dawn---it was nice to see and talk with someone who had been through the surgery and had many of the same feelings.
Dr. Schram and I talked about the surgery, risks, aftercare and went through my list of questions together. I have researched this for years and am pretty informed, but he did answer all of the questions I had completely. I definitely give him a 10 so far.

Bedside manner and surgical competence I believe are of equal value---I firmly believe the patient has to trust and feel comfortable with the person who is cutting him/her open. However, if I had to make a definite choice of either--or, I would have to choose surgical competence. But this will not be the case, because Dr. Schram definitely possess' both qualities:)

Because BTC is no longer accepting BCBS, I have had to change surgeons. I have an appointment with Dr. Wood in Warren on April 24. Because I have been approved already and was scheduled for surgery May 1 with BTC, I am hoping this will go quickly. I like what I have read about Dr. Wood in other people's profiles.

It has been a bit since I have up-dated. I now am having my surgery at BTC with Dr. Schram because they added another day. I am thrilled. My surgery is still May 1. By next week, I am sure I will be getting nervous.
