I thought my surgeon seemed to be very knowledgeable about the procedure. He took time to talk to me about what this surgery was and wasnt, and how I still needed to do my part. He took time to tell me about his experience and background with regard to the number of surgeries performed and the rarity of his patients having complications. I didnt get a big feeling of him being full of good bed side manner. But, in this case, I am looking for a good surgeon and good aftecare, not a smile and a wink. I want someone to be compassionate yes, but do the job right and I will love you for it just the same.
Dr. Schram does strictly bariatric surgeries. He has performed over 1000 of them. He seems relatively young and has wonderful bed-side manner.
He explained the surgery, talked about how it's done and what it would mean afterwards. He allowed me to ask all the questions I wanted without me feeling like I was taking up too much of his time.
After meeting with Dr. Schram, I met with someone who has had a RNY. She talked to me about the personal side of it and we were able to talk about more specific things. The entire consultation took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Dr. Schram was wonderful. Bedside manner was excellent and I was happily surprised when he lead my husband and I in a quick prayer just before surgery. He asked our permission first.
He has bent over backwards to acommodate my schedule, even fitting me in post-op between surgeries to take out my drain.
CINDI IN HIS OFFICE (WEST MICHIGAN) IS AN ANGEL. She's reason enough to choose Dr. Schram, besides the fact that he has never lost a patient and he was a successful general surgeon before doing WLS exclusively.
My first impression of Dr. Schram was that he was really concerned about me and how I felt (compassionate). My impression of him never changed, just enhanced. Why? Because I am an active christian and to know that my surgeon was also christian was comforting. We connected not only patient/Dr. but also by faith. The office staff was wonderful. They were compassionate, sensitive, firm and yet understanding to my needs and wants and my families needs. I can't think of not one thing that I liked least about my surgeon. Future patients should know about my surgeon is that you could not put yourself in better hands. Dr. Shram has a very structured and intensive aftercare. They do not allow the surgery and just let you go. They instruct you thoroughly and also follow up to make sure you are doing what you should do. He was very clear about the procedure and its risk. His overall rating would be a eleven on a scale of one to ten.
His bedside manner and surgical competency were excellent. I saw him more than once a day everyday after the surgery. His nurses checked for vitals and my physical being, he came in just to check on my emotional being.
My first impression was awesome, I was able to bring my daughter which usually its no children allowed. The staff was loaded at the time so it went slow I was apologized to a couple of times. I've made lots of calls back with questions and concerns. The staff has helped. I believe Dr Schram gave me the best information. I did have a great girl from scheduling who did not pressure me at all for setting the appointment. She made me feel so at ease making sure all my questions had been answered. The risks were strongly emphisized.
I had my first visit w/ Dr Schram today. He made me feel very comfortable. He explained the surgery, etc. I have been on the internet enough the past few months that I didn't have many questions. He told me I would have more questions and to call anytime I needed to. His staff were wonderful. All the ladies were so nice and helpful. Can't wait for the next step to be over...the insurance approval.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Schram and all the office staff. They were very supportive and helpful. There was nothing I didn't like about him. He was very compassionate and understanding! I was very pleased with the overall experience. They had everything I needed to know after surgery and I could call at anytime. At the time of my first appointment I walked out very informed about the surgery and what the pro's and con's were. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate Dr. Schram and his staff a 10. What really has stuck was his prayer with me and my family before he took me back for sugery!
Thank you Dr. Schram and staff you have forever changed my life!!
I was impressed with Dr. Schram at my consult this week. He explained the surgery in full detail and made sure I didn't have any questions about either the surgery or after care. After he sent in a counselor to talk the procedure over with me. I wasn't as impressed with her as she was more concerned with the noise going on in the hallway and couldn't concentrate on our conversation. I am excited about the surgery and having Dr. Schram as my surgeon.
