I met with my surgeon, Dr. Jon Schram, for my consultation. I have been researching this surgery for about 9 months and really didn't have many questions and am already really comfortable with the thought of doing this. My husband, however, is not quite so sure. Dr. Schram described the surgery in detail to us and answered every question that we had. He helped to ease my husbands nerves some. He was very down to earth when he talked to us and spoke on our level and not in doctor's terms. He didn't rush us at all. He also has a great track record. I felt very comfortable with him. He does have a structured aftercare program through the Barix Clinx. They are are so nice there that I am really looking forward to getting to know them all better. As far as surgical competence or bedside manner go, I think that both are important but competence is #1. Dr. Schram seems to be great at both.
Dr. Schram, with Barix Clinic, was very straight forward in the consultation. He told me what to expect and answered all my questions. He wasn't overly friendly and wasn't interested in staying with me longer than necessary, but I don't need a good "bed side manner" if he is a good surgeon, and I have been assured that he is.
I WAS VERY COMFORABLE WITH HIM FROM THE FIRST TIME WE SAT DOWN TO TALK.
THE OFFICE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND IF I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THINGS I CALL AND THEY DO THERE BEST TO GET ME AN ANSWER.
I THINK THAT FUTURE PATINTS WILL BE VERY HAPPY AND COMFORTABLE WITH HIM. HE IS A DR. THAT I WILL BE VERY COMFORTABLE WITH HAS FAR AS BED SIDE MANNERS GOES. THERE ARE DR.'S OUT THERE THAT I FEEL DON'T HAVE A GOOD BED SIDE MANNER.
DR. EMPHASIZE'S ALOT ABOUT AFTERCARE AND HOW THINGS WILL PROGRESS. IT IS VERY STRUCTURED AND I JUST CAN'T WAIT TIL I GET APPROVED TO START MY JOURNEY.
YES HE HAS ADDRESSED THE RISKS. AND I KNOW THAT WITH ALL SURGERY THERE ARE RISKS NO MATTER WHAT. BUT I WILL FEEL SAFE IN HIS HANDS AND IN THE HANDS OF GOD.
RIGT NOW OVERALL I LIKE HIM AND I'M COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.
BOTH SUGICAL AND BEDSIDE IS IMPORTANT TO ME. I HAVE HAD A BAD OUTCOME FROM A SURGERY I AM DOWN ON MOST DR.'S. SO FOR ME TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH DR.SCHRAM I'M CONTEND.
I met with Dr. Schram last week. He was very nice and very informative. By the information that he shared, he reassured me that I have made the right decision to move forward with the surgery. The entire staff at BTC was terrific and made me and my husband feel totally comfortable. The facility/hospital was very inviting and clean and the staff were all professional but personable at the same time. All of my questions were answered and I am sure that I am on my way!
My first impression of Dr. Schram was that he was rather YOUNG! (ie, from the thought that anyone who looks younger than me is YOUNG and I'm 39) I asked him about the number of surgeries he had performed and the type == about 1200 surgeries and most of them open Roux-en-y. He hasn't had a leak and he hasn't lost a patient. He was very personable, knowledgeable, etc.
Dr. Schram seems to be a nice doctor. He also did my friend Kim's surgery and asked if he could pray with her first, I think thats great! The office staff was great. Barix clinics offers a nutritionist free for life. I know if I get approved, Barix clinics will be my best choice for surgery and after care.
