I thought that Dr. Schram was very knowledgible and professional.

My impression didn't change over time

Everyone on his staff was very kind and sensative to my needs.

There wasn't really anything that I didn't like about him. I'm trusting him with my life.

He does emphasize that this suregery is merely a tool and not a cure for obeisty.

Yes we did discuss the risks involved.

I would rate him a 9

Surgical competence is most important

Doctor Schram is a very nice guy. He made sure he answered all my questions. I so far have only met him once. His staff is very nice and very helpful.

I met my surgeon on September 17, 2004 for my consultation. He was wonderful. Explained everything very well. I had been researching this surgery for over 4 years so knew alot about what to expect so what few questioins I had left he answered them all before I even asked them. He is a very comfortable person to chat with. As was his staff. Was very impressed with the whole event, everyone involved, and the facilities.Dr Schram and his staff emphasized the aftercare alot. And the aftercare soundes very well structered. As for rating him over all on a scale of 1-10 I would have to say at this point 9 1/2 only because nobody is perfect. Hmmm which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both? Would have to say both one could not survive this type of procedure without the other. I was so emperssed with Dr Schram I recommended him to other co-workers who are also interested in this surgery.

I have had one meeting with Dr. Schram and had a very good first impression. His presentation was rather canned, but he answered all my questions. He has a lot of Bariatric RNY experience with a great record of successes.

His office staff in Holland was very nice and helpful.

He does surgery in Ypsilanti at Barix Center which is a private hospital without an ICU or Trauma Center on site (a negative), although there is an ICU/Trauma Center real close and Barix center does only Bariatric surgery and has an excellent reputation.

Post-op Update I am really glad I chose Dr. Schram. I believe he is one of the best surgeons around doing WLS and his record show it. The hospital was full of very experienced and competant staff.

I first met with Dr. Schram at my initial consultation on August 26, 2004. He was very nice, easy to talk to and very informative; in fact, he answered 90% of my questions without my asking them. He went over the procedure in full and explained everything in detail. Dr. Schram also explained that this procedure is NOT a "magic cure", but rather a tool to use to obtain and maintain a healthy weight. I immediately pictured what would happen if one were to use a hammer as a drill and vise versa-- what a mess!!!!! So I guess the bottom line for me is simply this...
If I choose to use this tool properly I will be very satisfied with my results. On the other hand, if I choose to misuse this tool, I will be sorry as the weight can and will return.
The entire staff at the Holland Office were very nice and helpful. No one there was too busy to help me with all of my many questions; they were great! I had a completely positive experience and found nothing to dislike about the Doctor or the staff. The only thing I can say I did dislike is the fact that I have to drive 8 hours to each appointment as I live 400 miles from the nearest Clinic :(
I would highly reccommend this Doctor to anyone looking for a polite and down to earth kind of Physician who is not only interested in performing your surery, but also in following your aftercare. He stresses the importance of making sure you take care of yourself after the surgery and follow up with the appointments as monitoring blood levels is extremely important in this process; eletrolytes can easily become unbalanced with rapid weight loss.
Dr. Schram has performed over 1500 bariatric surgeries alone and has been a surgeon for 12 years; 3 years with strictly bariatrics. Although there are risks involved in any surgery, Dr. Schram has had no problems in the surgeries he has done.
I believe bedside manner is equally as important as competence, and I feel both have been shown to me by this Doctor. Overall, I would rate Dr. Schram and his office staff a "9" (since no one is perfect).

He seems very nice and profesional.

no it has not.

His staff is very helpful. even with getting approvel from the insurance company.

Nothing yet.

Where I am having surgery done I have to go for check ups every 3 months for the first year and once a year after that.

Surgery risk he said is possable. However he will do everthing he can to make it go as smooth as possable.

I think he is good.

I want to know I am in good hands. I also want someone who makes me feel comfortable.

First meeting went very well....very nice. Explained the surgery thoroughly and alerted me to misconceptions (losing weight won't be easy...this will be a tool). Answered questions honestly and without reservation.

Dr. Schram was wonderful at the first meeting. He took time and didn't make us feel rushed. He answered all our questions and encouraged us to ask anything. He also stressed that this surgery is a tool, not a cure. He explained the surgical process thoroughly, along with the risks. Everyone in the Holland Office was very nice.

I originally met with Dr. today and he was great. Very knowledgeable and forthcoming with information. I came in with many questions and he let my questions guide the consultation rather than insisting on following a "canned" presentation. My 4 year old was with us and Dr. Boe was very patient with him and even made him an oregami swan. I felt very secure with Dr. Boe and trusted him immediately.

Due to delays in doing LAP in Belvidere, however, I got myself moved to Ypsilanti, MI. Today, I met Dr. Schram. He is very quiet and almost peaceful. Since I had done the the consult before, I only had some very specific questions for him. I had read that he had a "canned" presentation, but he shifted with no problem and addressed my questions. He ahs done over 1000 open and 50 lap -- no mortalities and no leaks. I feel fortunate that God led me to him, an I'm looking forward to my upcoming surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Schram was, "wow he's young looking." He is probably in his late fourties! The staff at Barix Clinics is extremly professional, never once did I feel like an outkast. I've in other hospitals for other reasons and I always feel like they are looking at me funny. Never did I once feel this with Barix Clinics. What I least liked about Dr. Schram is that I believe he is more comfortable with OPEN RNY as to LAP RNY and he will push you to have open instead of lap.
