Dr Wright was very blunt and to the point. He is a matter of fact Dr. He made no promises. He states the facts and makes sure that you understand the risks as well as the possible benefits. His staff has been helpful and understanding. Especially Lisa. Future patients should understand that once you come to him you should have done your homework. He will not try to talk you into anything. Surgery is your decision. He will let you know if he believes if it might give you a better quality of life. He will make sure that you understand all the risks. Surgery Competence is most important.

I will admit my first impression was not totally positive. What I mean is I could tell he was a very competant doctor, but yet was a bit brusk. I thought that may be either his way of weeding out the people who were not serious about the surgery or maybe he didn't like the fact that I had no questions. I stuck with him, because competence is more important to me.

My second meeting was better. He was much more friendly. I did finally have questions and he answered them completely and was very reassuring. I look forward to interacting with him again and completely trust that my surgery is in capable hands.

3 of the people I work with are in various stages of gastric bypass. Dr. Wright has done all of them, and he comes VERY highly recommended. His personality is a little gruff, and he is very blunt, but he will take the time to answer any questions you may have about the procedure. He is very thruough, and believes in taking care of you. One thing I would recommend anyone thinking about gastric bypass, is to DO THE REASERCH it's not for everyone, and the more you know, the better you can protect your health. Dr. Wright is very blunt about the possible side effects as well. I have irratible bowl syndrome and dumping syndrome from having my gall bladder out, and he has put me thru several tests to see how this would effect me post op. I would give Dr. Wright very high marks, and will recommend him to anyone who is thinking about gastric bypass

** VERY STRONGLY
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
** YES
How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
** VERY CAREFULLY AND ON 3 OCCASIONS

First impression of Dr Wright was that he was very arrogant and not friendly at all..in fact he never even acknowledged that my husband was in the room with me..
My impression never changed over time about him, i just accepted thats how he is..
Office staff was very nice..
What did i like least about him ? i would have to say, he seems to be very distant with his patients,,does not want to get to close to them ..
His residants went over the risks of the surgery very well.
How would i rate him over all ? he is an excellent surgeon, but has absolutly no social skills at all..very cold..
which is better ? surgical competence, bedside manner or both ? His surgical competence is all i cared about...but he has no bedside manners at all..
He is a great surgeon...

my first meeting with dr. wright was a nervous experience. he is a straight shooting, no frills guy. evaluated all my pre visit experiences and told me the many risks involved. i had studied about this surgery for over a year and kept running into locked doors. my faith in getting it done was wearing thin. it was a short visit; vitals taken and noted. he said that he would let me know my acceptance or denial.

his office staff is wonderful;;;;;;;all SO informative and helpful;;;;;;answering many questions and some that i had not even thought of. i was well pleased with the whole experience.
dr. wright did my surgery on dec. 16th. he was warm and concerned and very friendly that morning; as was his whole staff. he made me feel very comfortable and knowing how exact he was; i had no worries at all.
my surgery went well and i am into my third week of recovery.

Dr. Wright was the best choice by far. I am so grateful to him and his staff for helping me get a new lease on life. i would reccommend him to everyone considering this surgery; but do know that one has to be really sincere about taking this most major step. it is a lifelong committment.

Guess I will write this up as I am in the medical field and tend to notice things more than my wife. I will start from the very beginning. Vandy is going through renovation and the driving/parking situation there is terrible. The clinic was a bit difficult to find but the check in was smooth. We waited in the waiting room about 30 min past our appointment time. After we were called back we waited about another 30 min until his resident came in and did the basic H&P (history and physical) The resident was a typical resident, complete in his exam but a bit rushed. After he left Dr Wright came in about 15 min later. He is a unremarkable looking man with a professional air about him. He took his time with us, explained all the risks, what he expects from the Pt afterwards, and it seems he tries to get a feel for if the patient really needs this or just wants a "quick fix" to a obese condition. He made it clear that this is a life altering process, and requires a lifelong commitment from the patient. After he found out how much we understood the process and associated risks he stated that Cheryl was an excellent candidate for the surgery and he would start the insurance process. At no time did we feel rushed and his credentials are very impressive. Both my wife and I feel very comfortable having him as our surgeon.

Very down to business, reviewed risks and explained surgery process in detail. I certainly think surgical competence is the winner. My goal is to have the surgery and be back to work as quickly as possbile. I'm traveling quite a distance to have the surgery, so that I will feel confident about having the best surgeon possible. He answered my questions, but I only had a few. I did pretty intense study before going. Update 11/14/02---Surgery date set for 1/7/03!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I met Dr. Wright on Sept. 25th,2002. It's kind of hard to say about my first impression of him, he really stressed the possible complications of the surgery and made sure that I understood them. He really seemed like a great doctor, really knows his stuff. He doesn't hesitate to give you his opinion, and tell you like it is. I think maybe we might have gotten off to a bad start, but that was entirely my fault. I was still having problems on giving up my smoking habit, and I knew that he wouldn't do the surgery if I was still smoking. I assured him that I would definitly give it up, so he told me that he would start talking to my insurance, but anything would be after the first of the year, as he was booked up until then. Hopefully, I'll get another chance to see him if all goes well with the insurance....

I liked Dr. Wright the first time I met him. He asked me questions and wanted to know if I had any questions of my own. He listened to me. Everytime I have called his office, I have been treated kind and with respect. The first visit isn't very long really, at least it wasn't for me. They told me when they called about my surgery date, that my preop date (oct 2) will be longer. They will do the tests then. I will post more after my surgery.
