John Wright, Jr. Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I met with Dr. Wright on April 27, 2005. My first impression of him was that he was a very knowledgable man and that there would be no dilly-dally conversation with him. He got right to the point when he walked in the room. Of course I started crying because I felt like they thought I am doing this as a quick fix. Although, they do know I was referred by my transplant doctor who told me to think about the surgery. I let them know the main reason I was doing this is to save my kidney and to live my life as a normal 25 yr. old.
I have talked with his secretary Lisa several times and she is alright I guess. I prefer to talk to the other girl at his office named Dana. Lisa seems kind of cold to people's emotions and not once have I ever got her to laugh about anything. I think she takes her job a little too seriously.
Dr. Wright did explain that all he would be doing is giving me a tool and that I would have to do the work to lose the weight. I fully understand that. He explained their aftercare program and the doctor who came in before Dr. Wright explained all the complications and risks that could result from surgery. They were very adamant that I understood all of these and they let me know I was at a higher risk because of my transplant.
Dr. Wright was very compassionate during my hospitalization and my needs were taken care of very well. I am so thankful that I had Dr. Wright as my surgeon and I couldn't have been happier with anyone else.
So, I rate Dr. Wright on a scale of 1 to 10 at a 10+.

I met Dr. Wright for the first time on August 26, 2005 at the Vanderbilt Clinc in Nashville, TN. My first thought was that he knew exactly what he was doing. He was there professionaly and he didn't joke around. I liked that. He told me all the bad stuff that can happen and nothing good that could happen. That was great because I need to make my decision on the bad things that could happen, I need to know I am ready for this, ready to go through what the surgery requires. I have read several things about Dr. Wright on the web and most say he doesn't have a good bedside manner, but I thought he was very professional and that is what mattered most to me.
His program is very informative and very structured. There is nothing that is left to the imagination. I was sent a packet in the mail with a booklet that tells each step in the process in very good detail. I will be walked through every step knowing exactly what I am getting into.

My first impression of Dr. John K.Wright Jr. was as I expected him to be, "Very Professional" yet kind. He explained everything about the surgery to me and was patient with me as I asked him the questions that I wanted him to answer. I really appreciated his honesty and attitude towards me and my husband while we were there for my first consultation. Heck, he even gave me a warm smile which was nice beings I was a bit nervous. I would rate him 10 + stars....
This is a man who knows his profession greatly.

To be honest, my first impression of my surgeon was'nt great. He made me feel a little intemadated,he was very staight forward and did'nt smile at all.However...I have met two women that had Dr.Wright aswell and they said that he was the best at what he does and he did'nt need to be best friends with them, they just wanted an experienced doctor that knew what he was doing.I agree!!
The only staff member that i've delt with is Lisa, she is Dr.Wright's assistant. I think she is just great, she is very nice and she makes me feel like i'm a valued client.
I am extremley excited to have my surgery, they had an open slot earlier than September,so Lisa called me and asked me if I wanted it.It is August 29,2005.I will write in to tell everyone how it went!!!

i have to say that my first impression of dr. wright was that he was a very stern and professional man he was serious about letting me know the risk i was gonna take in doing the surgury. my impression changed over time when he kimda had a pep in his step and was pleased that i was doing well. i would describe his office staff as friendly over the phone cause i havent met them in person. i have to say there isnt anything that i dont like about him cause i know that in the profession he is in he has a hard job. the future patients should know that he is a stern and up front on how serious it is to do well cause the suregury is not a quick fix nor a cure all. dr wright has a good sence of telling you helpfull info on your after care and what to expect and what to eat. his after care i would say is that you can structure your own after care program by following what they say and going to support groups. dr. wright addressed the risks of the surgery in a stern and professinal manner.i would rate dr. wright high marks overall cause he is a good man and does a great job at what he does. i beliave surgical competence is the greatest over the bedside manner cause the bed side manner i received was great.

I had my first appointment on February 15th and my pre-operative appointment and pre-admission testing July 3th. I found Dr Wright to be friendly and matter-of-fact. He knew I had done extensive research concerning my surgery with all the risks but he still stressed to me the importance of understanding everything. Gave me plenty of time to ask questions and did not seem rushed with his answers. Have found his check-in nurses very friendly and his other associates equally friendly. If you are considering Dr Wright rest assured that you will be getting one of the best doctors in our area as your surgeon and you will not be disappointed. I thank Dr Wright for giving me back my life and consider him my *hero*.

I was very nevous when I first met Dr Wright, and thought he was trying to talk me out of the surgery.
I know Dr wright was just trying to make sure I was well informed of everything, but he kinda almost scared me out of the surgery.
His staff are very sweet and helpful.
there wasnt anything I disliked.
He is very forward and upfront
I think he feels aftercare is very important!!!
Yes he has a very structured aftercare program.YOU see a nutritionist and have a strict diet.
He is Excellent!!
Surgical competence is awsome and I would put my life into his hands again anytime I had to.
I think he is a great surgeon and give him an A+.

Dr. John K. Wright Jr.M.D. is professional, explains the pros and cons in detail about the RNY Surgery. He will answer any questions in detail.I had two appointments and my impression of him never changed.
Dr. Wrights staff is knowledgeable and willing to help in any way they can with preparing the patient for the surgery.
Dr. Wright takes everything serously. This makes him seem cold with no sense of humor. Future patients should ask any and all questions they can about their concerns about this surgery.Dr. Wrights office staff will provide dates with a Nutrionist and Psychologist.

I have already recommened him to others seeking the surgery and his Surgical Competence makes-up for his bedside manner.

I was very impressed the first time I met with Dr. Wright. He was brutally honest with me about my weight, the surgery and all the pros and cons about having and not having the surgery. He was kind and caring but very stern. He made it perfectly clear that having the surgery was not a end all cure all to losing weight. He is really big on aftercare, excersize, and a proper diet. On a scale of 1 to 10 I will rate Dr. Wright as a 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is greaaaaaaaaat! By the way he is in Nashville, Tn at Vanderbilt Hospital not in Chatanooga, TN
