My first impression of Dr. Grant was that he was a very down-to-business, busy surgeon. But as we talked during my one-on-one consultation, I found that I didn't feel like he was too busy for me or that he was trying to rush me or anything. He answered ALL of my questions, including when I asked him about his own personal reasons for wanting to do WLS and his interest in obesity.

Dr. Grant was the surgeon who went over the surgical risks in the group I was in. He explained in detail ALL of the things that can go wrong, as well as exactly how they try to prevent these things from happening. He also discussed what they do to treat you if something does end up going wrong. He gave statistics of how many of their patients have had such problems, as well as how that compared to the national averages. He also openly answered any additional questions people had, without trying to pretend that this is an easy, no-risk surgery.

Aftercare is extremely important in the Duke Weight Loss Center program. They have a 3-week, 3 month and 6 month post-op meeting, where you see the psychologist and the nutritionist every time. They have a monthly support group meeting and a very active message board. It is always stressed that you call the office with any concerns and they firmly believe that one of the biggest keys to success is having a support system to help you.

Overall, I was very pleased with Dr. Grant and his surgical skill.

My surgery was done by the Duke Weightloss Surgery Program. My surgeon, Dr. Grant, was a wonderful surgeon. He was (and continues to be) very supportive and willing to take the time to answer all my questions. He was very attentive during my hospital stay and made sure I was healing properly. I've had other surgeries and experience with medical testing and I would highly reccomend Dr. Grant. Overall, he is one of the best doctors I've ever dealt with.

The Duke program is very well designed. They have an introductory seminar that provides you with information on the surgery, the program and obesity issues. The program emphasizes that the surgery is a tool and stresses the importance of proper eating, exercise and emotional support. They require psychiatric group sessions that help patients cope with the life changing effects of the surgery.

The clinic personnel are very helpful and pleasant to deal with. However, the appointments are usually backed up and there is often a long wait to be seen.

The surgery was performed at Durham Regional Hospital. It is easy to access and has free parking, but the staff is fairly disorganized and the rooms aren't kept very clean. They do put most of the weightloss patients in the same wing and the nurses and aides are familiar with the needs of bariatric surgery patients. Overall, the hospital is mediocre.

I would reccommend Duke Weightloss Surgery to others because of the well-rounded program and Dr. Grant's excellence.

Dr. Grant is wonderful. I first saw him at the informational session provided by Duke. I immediately knew that he was an authority on the subject of Bariatric Surgery. As I came to know him better, I found that he has a wonderful bedside manner. He does not sugar coat things, he tells you exactly as they are. He is friendly, attentive, and genuinely concerned for his paitents. His office staff is also wonderful. Dr. Grant was very quick to stress the importance of the aftercare program and spent some time discussing the outcome if this were ignored. Duke does have a structured after care program that I am thrilled to be a part of. To me this signifies their committment to patient success.

Dr. Grant I wish I could put into words how wonderful this doctor is. I had a question after my surgery and I emailed the clinic well before I knew it Dr. Grant, not a secretary, emailed me back within the hour!!! I could have not asked for a better doctor or his staff. His after care in the hospital was super, he checked on me everyday.

I was very impressed with Dr. Grant upon meeting him. He is a very knowledgeable, well-skilled and wise surgeion. The staff works very hard to ensure you are processed in a timely manner and will go beyond 100% when necessary. Dr. Grant did an excellent job in performing my surgery with no complications. I was well educated by the Nutrionist regarding aftercare.

Duke Weight Loss Surgery Center is one of the best in the nation. I highly recommened Dr. Grant and his staff.

He reminded me of Jack Nicholson
My impression of him hasn't changed. He still reminds me of Jack Nicholson.

The office staff is helpful but always seems rushed and somewhat put-off at times.

I liked my surgeon when I met him. He was very thorough in explaining things to me. I just never felt like I had enough time with him. He has a very caring mannerism and puts you at ease.
