My first impression of Dr Huse was one of knowledge and compassion. I liked him. The more I get to see Dr Huse the more I see that he is truly genuine in his concern and care for us. I know that he sees hundreds of patients a year but he seems to really get joy from our successses. He knows what he is talking about, he is compassionate and I would recommend Dr Huse to anyone interested in having this surgery. Not to mention I have compared my scar to others and my Open RNY scare is tiny compared to others with other docs, which tells me again that Dr Huse cares about the job he does and how well he does it.

I was very impressed with his easy going nature and patience in explaining everything. He was very informative and answered all of my questions thoroughly. His office is extremely busy and it usually takes 2-3 days to hear back from them, but they always call back with the information requested. All of his office staff are friendly and helpful. So far, I would rate Dr. Huse and his office staff with very high marks.

I wasn't able to attend my mother's consultation with Dr. Huse (I need to save my vacations days for when she has the surgery!), but both my mother and father seemed to like him. He basically answered all of their questions and explained the options to her. He wants her to go through pre-testing before he answere any specific questions about her health and before they proceed any further to make sure that she is healthy enough to have the operation. I have heard before that most wouldn't consider him a "people-person", but we are simply looking for a good and qualified surgeon and from their first impression he seemed to be just that!

I HAVE ONLY GOTTEN TO SPEAK TO DOC HUSE FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.
I FEEL THAT HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING, AND IS VERY CAPABLE. I HOPE TO GETTO TALK TO HIM A LITTLE MORE AT A LATER DATE. WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IF I WOULD GET APPROVAL FROM INSURANCE THE FIRST TIME I MET WITH HIM. HE DID EXPLAIN EVERYTHING VERY WELL AND TOLD OF THE RISK INVOLVED WITH THIS OR ANY MAJOR SURGERY.
HIS OFC STAFF IS FRIENDLY BUT I COULD TELL THEY
ARE RUSHED.
AUG 1, 2003. IT HAS NOW BEEN ONE YR SINCE MY SURGERY. I AM SO PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS. I COULDN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT DOCTOR HUSE. HE IS THE BEST IN MY OPINION. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE ABOUT TO HAVE THIS SURGERY. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL AND FEEL WONDERFUL.
GO FOR IT!!!!!

When I first started this journey I was scared. I had my original consultation on October 29, 2002 with Dr Huse. We were in a group of about 15 people and he explained the two surgeries he does the Lapband and the RNY and you could tell he preferred the RNY. After the group consult we were called back one at a time and he asked us two or three questions. okay so no word from them until January. October to January. I am approved after 1st letter. So they set my surgery date. August 15th!! wow long wait. They send me for my physcological test right away but dont schedule my other pre-op tests until the end of July. All this time no word from them, no phone call, nothing. I go to muy tests and everything looks good but my oxygen sats are low. I see Dr Huse doctor who clears patients for surgery and he feels I am a high risk and sets me up for at home oxygen and tells me they can re-evaluate me in a month if that is what I want but he will talk with /Dr Huse and the anesthesia guy, So I wait a week and I call Dr Huses office. She informs me that my surgery has been cancelled. I ask what no re-evaluation after I have been on the oxygen no chance to change things and get them better for surgery. She says that if I want another surgical opinion then by all means get one. So what I say is this. Dr Huse may be the "best" but he sure sucks in my book. He hasnt even seen me. they give you a surgery date and then make you wait over 6 months before they determine if you qualify? I could have been on oxygen these six months or doing breathing exercises. Now all the sudden it is no forever? He is in demand and he has taken the attitude of picking and choosing only the easy cases. Well I think he just earned a big 0 in my book. I have great insurance and I passed all other tests, I could do the spirometer to the proper number , all other tests ok I just have low oxygen levels. Thanks for listening. I am sure that he is a great surgeon but I am feeling that I have been treated very unfairly and I deserve a second chance or at the very least some guidance or advice as to how to get myself ready and approved for the surgery. All the people I have talked to so far have been happy with him but I think he sucks

2/22/02 Met Dr. Huse briefly in May '01. Have never seen him again. Am strictly going by his reputation.Have had insurance denials and appeals going on since.
7/16/03-Had open RNY on 9/3/02, have only the best opinion of Dr. Huse. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is researching RNY. Be warned though, it takes about 6 months for a surgery date after meeting with him. He is extremely busy. Aftercare program in place at St. Vincent Carmel. Appts to see him every 3 months now. He is probably the best surgeon in Indiana for this type of procedure. He isn't the most talkative, and does not come across as the friendliest Dr., but in my opinion is the most competent.

6/3/03 Just met with Dr. Huse. He seems like a really nice guy. He really made the point during the group consult that this is a major life change. You can either follow their plan and lose and continue to lose or you can eat whatever and lose at the beginning and then eventually probably gain it all back. He was very upfront with the risks, pros/cons of the different surgeries and surgery in general.

Dr. Huse was very caring and encouraging while I was in the hospital. He carefully explained each step in my recovery and answered all my questions. My recovery has been smooth and uneventful (2 weeks post op), and I was in the hospital only 4 days. I'm grateful for his expertise. He has a quiet manner, but is very reassuring and kind. I'd highly recommend him to anyone else -- extremely compentent.
