My husband and I both like him. I have known about him over the years, but had never really met him. I feel he is a fine surgeon who has done thousands of these procedures.
I don't know what I like least about him because I've dealt mostly with the office staff which are really great and caring. The dietitians and nurses are really wonderful. They STRESS the importance of good follow up with the dietitians and staff. They also STRESS the importance of my going to support groups which meet in the evenings.
Overall, I would rate him on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best as probably a 9.

Dr. John Huse was just wonderful. From the beginning he explained every question I ever had about surgery and seemed to really care about what he was doing. His staff has always been very nice too when I have had to deal with them. Future patients should know that he is a very caring doctor and makes sure you understand everything. I love his follow-up care. He does seem like he really cares about his patients. He told me about the risks but also let me know that this was a decision that should be based on what I wanted and not what I had heard just from everyone else especially the Internet. I would rate his care the top of the line. I would never recommend anyone else. (Not that the others are'nt good of course!!) I would have to say his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. He made my husband and Mother both feel very good about me having this. They were both somewhat scared for me but felt better after talking to him.

From the very beginning I really liked Dr. Huse. He was a very personal type person that seemed to have the time for you at all times. His office staff are also very nice and helpful. My inpression of him has not changed any since my surgery. He lets you know upfront the kind of care that is needed after surgery and the program that is available to all patients. He did tell me about the risks that are involved with this type of surgery so I went in knowing them. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. I would recommend me to any one that is going to have WLS done. The one thing that he does not do is go into detail about all the types of surgery that is available.

He has had 20 years of experience and was very knowledgable about the surgery and details of what might happen. I did have to go back into the hospital for 2 separate outpatient endoscopy tests which in essence stretch the ring out a bit. This was done due to much problem with nauseau. His office staff is fantastic, and very caring. The thing I like least was his bedside manner. I have since changed to Dr. Rosemarie Jones who is outstanding in bedside manner and the time and attention she gives to detail. Whether it be late night calls, or an emergency hernia surgery. The aftercare program is good.

I WENT TO THE MEETING AT ST VINCENT IN CARMEL DR HUSE WAS NOT ABLE TO MEET WITH OUR GROUP AS HE WAS IN SURGERY LONGER THAN PLANNED THAT DAY. SO HE SAID THAT HE WOULD SEE US ALL INDIVIDUALLY EITHER AT HIS OFFICE OR AT ST VINCENT ON ANOTHER DAY. I LIKED HIS STAFF I HAVE ONLY REALLY DEALT WITH FRAN AT THE OFFICE BUT I DID TALK TO LINDA AT ST VINCENTS ONE DAY AND SHE WAS VERY HELPFUL. THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THAT I REALLY DID NOT LIKE ABOUT HIM. HE TOOK HIS TIME WHEN I MET HIM AT HIS OFFICE. I DID NOT FEEL RUSHED AND FELT GOOD ABOUT HIM AND THE DECISION TO HAVE THE RNY. I AM A CARBOHYDRATE ADDICT AND I KNOW THIS. I FELT THE RISKS WERE GIVEN AND I AM GOING TO THE SUPPORT GROUP IN MARCH. MY BOYFRIEND IS GOING WITH ME AND SHELLIE WHO HAD THE SURGERY ALREADY STATED THAT THIS FINE ESPECIALLY SINCE HE IS MY SUPPORT PERSON. I THANK HIM FOR CARING THIS MUCH FOR ME THAT HE IS WILLING AND WANTING TO GO THROUGH THIS WITH ME. I HOPE THAT THIS IS A START OF A NEW LIFE AND THAT I NO LONGER WILL SUFFER FROM REFLUX, LEG PAIN, BACK PAIN AND ARTHRITIS.

Dr Huse sets up appointments with a large group of prospective patients all at once and goes over in detail the two types of surgery that he does and the risks involved. Then he meets with each person indivually for a short time. Rather like an assembly line procedure.
The first appointment takes most of the afternoon. There were 20 in our group.
For those who want to go through with the surgery he schedules a psyc. evaluation and extensive tests including gall-bladder, chest x-ray, upper GI, breath test, blood and urine, and EKG. He also had me meet with a heart dr.Don't know why at this point.
Dr Huse usually schedules everyone for a VBG unless there is a definate health problem. I did not find this out until I called to schedule a pre-op day at the bariatric center at St. Vincent's where I will find out what I need to do befor the surgery and afterwards. Since the instructions differ with each type of surgery I have to know which type of surgery I am going to have befor they can schedule my day.
Since I have acid reflux disease I plan on meeting with him to go over my tests results and ask him about having the RYN since I have read that this is very effective for this type of disease. No one told me which type of surgery I was to have until I called his office.
Also there is a problem with trying to find the right person to ask a question. Dr. Huse's office is at Methodist Hospital but the surgery will be at St. Vincent's in Carmel. However there is a bariatric center at St. Vincent's which takes his calls. I did not know until a week ago that his office was not at St. Vincent's. When I call with a question I usually am referred to two or three people or offices befor I get an answer.
There is a follow-up program at St. Vincent's where bariatric patients meet once a month for a year to get advice and exchange ideas. I don't know if Dr. Huse will be involved in this or not.
I am troubled that patients dont see Dr Huse again until the day of surgery unless they call him to set up an appointment to talk about the tests results.
He has 17 years of experience doing bariatric surgery .
I would suggest to anyone who goes for a first visit to write down any and all questions that you have for him as this may be the only time you see him including what the tests are for,and , in case of an emergency how avaiable will he be?
Don't be afraid to ask anything and take your time. You and he should be a team and this is your life. Be sure to ask him which surgery he is going to do on you and why?

Dr. Huse came right into the little room we were all sitting in and started to explain the procedures right away. I thought he could have been a little more coridal about the entire thing, but then again I'd rather have a surgeon whose best field is surgery than one whose best field is public relations. I feel that he is an extremely capable physician. His staff makes up what he lacks in cheerfulness.
He was very honest in presenting the risks of surgery, and in pointing out that WLS isn't magic, and that you can "work around" your surgery if you try.
At this point, I trust Dr. Huse completely, and feel comfortable putting my life -- as well as my quality of life -- in his hands.
These opionions are, of course, my own. Your experience may vary.
