Jamshid Nazarian Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I am "penciled" in to have surgery 09/19/01 with Dr. Nazarian. I am still waiting for approval from my insurance company. I have not yet met the Doctor but am planning to get a flight to L.A. soon. I will keep you posted on my opinion of him as soon as I can.

*GOT APPROVED WILL HAVE SURGERY ON 9/19/01 AND WILL GET TO MEET THE DOCTOR ON 09/17/01.

10/09/01: Surgery went well and I am doing fine. Have lost 30 pounds in 3weeks! Yippy! The doctor and staff were excellent. I was very happy with Dr. Nazarian.

I haven't met the Dr. yet. However I have been scheduled for Oct. 17th. I am so excited. I tried another Dr. in Delano. VERY DISSAPPOINTING! They were no were near what they claimed to be. I felt very let down after all the so called good I had heard about them. I just inquired with Rick Mark on Monday the 10th of Sept. now I havew been scheduled for surgery. YEEE HAAA!!! I still need to gather more info. I have read one comment that did scare me. But, all the others were great. I am at 330 lbs. 5' 10" tall and can't wait........

HAVE NOT MET WITH HIM AS OF YET. I AM STILL GOING THROUGH THE QUALIFYING PROCESS. I WILL NOT MEET WITH THE KAISER SURGEON AS THEY DISQUALIFIED ME BECAUSE I DID NOT FALL INTO THEIR SET QUALIFICATONS.

I AM GOING THROUGH THE LIV-LITE PROGRAM. DR JAMSHID NAZARIAN WILL BE MY DOCTOR. I HAVE NOT MET HIM YET I HAVE MY CONSELTATION AND PRO-OP ON SEPTEMBER 13 2001. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE RICK MARK HE IS THE PROGRAM MANAGER. HE IS VERY HELPFUL, HE ANSWERS ALL THE QUESTIONS YOU COULD POSSIBLE HAVE AND SETS UP THE PRE-OP AND SURGERY DATES. SINCE I AM COMING FROM OUT OF STATE HE IS ALSO ARRANGING TRANSPORTATION FOR ME FROM AND TO THE AIRPORT.

Dr. Nazarian is a soft spoken, gentle man... He told me of the procedure, his concerns with my current health and how this procedure is going to help me acheive my goal. The office staff was nice considering how many patients were waiting to see the Doctor. Most of these were post-op patients. I decided to go directly to Dr. Nazarian and bypass going through a "Bariatric Surgery Center" I believe the care you receive by Dr. Nazarian's "ACTUAL" staff is far superior than that you would receive from a Program office that he does not run. Dr. Nazarian is a very quiet gentle man who didn't make me feel like just another "fat" person looking for a way out. He took his time, asked a lot of questions and made me feel like my decision was the right one for me.

1st impression was ok. Seemed like a nice man. He was always late....but hey he's a doctor, it's to be expected. My impression changed as soon as he pulled my tube out. I asked what would happen if it came out early. I was told nothing, no problem. He pulled it out, I went home and ended up in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks after that. He told the ER doctor that I insisted he take the tube out. Uhm NOT! I ended up w/peritonitis...this can and has killed. The real thing that upsets me is that he said I insisted he take it out. I know there is no way he could have predicted what happened to me. But he didn't have to say that just to cover his ass.
He does not have nurses in his office. I found that odd. There is no one to talk to when you call his office. You have to wait for him to call you back.
I wouldn't recommend this doctor, not because of his skill, but because of the hospital that he works out of. That place was just amazing. 3 out of 4 dept. did things to me that they should not have done. Dietary threw me into dumping syndrome on my 1st day of liquids. The nursing staff didn't want to listen to me when I questioned the reg. liq diet. Nursing didn't give me all the medications ordered. Nor did they put on my leg pumps. I had a panic attack and was trapped in all the tubing in the ICU. The only thing I could see was the clock. I spent 45 minutes freaking out and trying to call for the nurse...she only has 2 patients to take care of! Finally the physical therapist happened to notice me and called her over. What kind of ICU is that. Thank god I was still breathing! Respitory dept took it upon themselves to give me breathing treatments beyond what the doctor ordered. OH ya the best, I had chest pains and sortness of breath one night. Nurse NEVER called the MD. just checked my b/p and pulse ox and said I was fine. Boy am I glad she is qualified to make such a diagnosis.
I was never told of the risks involved. As far as an aftercare program. What aftercare? I think they hold seminars every few months in some obscure area. Since my surgery I've only heard from the doctor/staff 2 x's. They could care less. The insurance paid them.

I think Dr. Nazarin is a loving and carrying Doctor. I would reccomend him to my best friends!

His office hasn't stayed in contact over the years with me but I haven't stayed in contact with them eighter.


I would choose him again.

I think that Dr. Nazarin's office and support groups didn't really talk about the emotional level of giving up such a powerful addiction such as food and overeating. I think that this area needs to be emphasized.

My first impression was that he is toooooooo busy and his office scheduler should do a better job in giving accurate appointments. (I was set for 5:00pm and saw the M.D. at 7:00 pm)Needless to say that I was inpatient!!!(that has been a new thing for me with this surgery) The doctor is very quiet and gentle. He does not give the impression that he is rushed but rather that you are the only patient he has to see. (very nice) The office staff is also nice and helpful but seem overwhelmed. It was a great experience and I am pleased that I have chosen this particular provider.

I FIRST HEARD OF DR. NAZARIAN THRU A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ON DANA ESTRADA, DANA LATER BECAME MY ANGEL. I HAD MY SURGERY ON 2/22/01 IT HAS BEEN 4 MONTHS YESTERDAY AND I HAVE LOST 71 POUNDS, I HAVE A WAY TO GO, BUT I KNOW I WILL MAKE IT. RICK MARK WAS FANTASTIC! HE WAS ABLE TO DO ALL MY INSURANCE WORK SO FAST, PUT IT THIS WAY, I SEEN THE NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ON JAN. 15TH AND I HAD MY SURGERY FEB.22ND, THATS FAST! I WASNT SCARED AT ALL, I KNEW IT WAS MEANT TO BE. I FIRST MET DR. NAZARIAN AT A SEMINAR IN THE VALLEY, HE IS GO GREAT! HE GAVE A REALLY DETAILED SEMINAR, AND ANSWERED ALL OUR QUESTIONS. RICK TOLD HIM I HAD ALREADY BEEN APPROVED, SO HE SPENT EXTRA TIME WITH ME. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I HAD NO PAIN WITH THE SURGERY. I NEVER HIT THE PAIN BUTTON IN THE HOSPITAL, NOR TOOK PAIN MEDS AT HOME. I FEEL GREAT. I RATE DR. NAZARIAN A+ AND THE SAME FOR RICK MARK. WOULD I DO IT AGAIN? YES!!! I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO THANK DANA, DR. NAZARIAN AND RICK MARK AND THE WHOLE NUSING STAFF ENOUGH. ANY QUESTIONS? I WILL TRY TO ANSWER. THANK YOU.

Dr. Nazarian is a wonderful surgeon who genuinely cared
about me as a person. He is highly skilled and did an
excellent job on the open procedure. His staff is good
and he works with JEG (a bariatric services corporation)
They did all the insurance prep for me, etc. and
got me approved. The best thing about Dr. Nazarian is his bedside manor
I never felt judged. He does havd an aftercare
program but I was from out-of-state so I didn't participate
in it. He sat down with me and went over
everything in detail. I give him an A+. He did lose my lab
stuff a couple of times.
