Why I chose Dr. Davidson: I stumbled upon the new program at Presby Dallas, but now I consider it an answer to my prayers.

First Impression of Staff: I was pleasantly surprised at the quick turn around from the time I called to the date of the seminar/ consultation I was given. Chris, the program director, with Dr. Davidson, has put together a great program. They are focusing on individualized care of each patient and did not give me the assembly line feeling that I had after attending the seminar at Baylor. They also combine the consultation with the doctor and the seminar into one visit and give you a surgery date at that time. (which is basically just not done at other offices - I attended the Baylor seminar prior to seeing Dr. Davidson and attended a consult with Dr. Cribbins after seeing Dr. Davidson and have just reinforced my choice to use Dr. Davidson). At my seminar, on 5/22, there were only 4 prospective patients, and a spouse. 5 people! I was shocked! However, the small group was great and I felt very comfortable asking questions. Chris, the program director, gave the seminar/slide presentation. He was friendly and informal, but very knowledgable and informative. He answered all questions and encouraged us to interupt during the seminar should we have a question. He went over national statistics and risks of the RNY surgery, as well as individualized stats for Dr. Davidson and BSC. He also went over the financial details as well. After the seminar, we went to the office for individual consultations with Dr. Davidson. The office staff was super friendly. My weight and height were taken, as well as my picture. I then had my blood pressure taken and met with the medical assistant Diana for any last minute questions. I then went in to see Dr. Davidson. I can't say enough about how well you are treated when you go in for your seminar/consultation. Chris and the rest of the staff are to be commended on coming up with such a innovative WLS program that really focuses on individualized care, while trying to provide services to a large number of people. (Also, after the consult with Dr. Davidson is done, you go into the front office and are given a surgery date, which, of course, is dependent on insurance approval. But wow! A surgery date at your seminar/consult!!!)

First Impression of Dr. Davison: I had told Diana, the medical assistant, that all of my doctors are very laid back, sweet and have a great bedside manner. I told her I need the "hand holding" type of doctor or I am not happy. Although she said Dr. Davidson was not really like that, she said that the "hand holding" is where the staff comes in. So, with that in mind, I went in to see Dr. Davidson. I liked him very much. He answered all my questions and then some. He talked to me about me and my surgery ... not just about surgery in general. He discussed my weight, my BMI, showed me the equipment used to do laproscopic surgery and looked at and felt my stomach to determine if Lap was possible on someone my size. (which it is! yahoo!) He was so nice and I didn't even mind when he told me I had to lose weight before the surgery! : ) He even talked to me about plastic/reconstructive surgery in 18 months due to my large panni and said that it was something for me to think about. (Already talking about aftercare!) I really like him a lot and, like I said above, I usually only like a "hand-holding" type of doctor.

Aftercare: Aftercare is the name of the game with Dr. Davidson and his team at the Bariatric Surgery Center of Dallas. They have a 3 year structured program, which includes numerous follow-up office visits, meetings with a nutritionist, exercise classes, a live monthly support group, an online support group on Yahoo, and a new website with a confidential patient section they are in the process of creating. I am so excited that I am going to be able to be a part of this program. After attending several of the WLS seminars and meeting with other doctors, I feel that this program is going to be the best.

Future Patients: Be prepared to spend 4 to 5 hours for the seminar/consultation. The focus is on individualized attention with each and every patient. They want all questions asked and answered and, although they are very upfront and serious about the risks, they want you to feel good about your choice to have WLS.

This is a new program and, at the time of my consultation/seminar - 5/22/03, Dr. Davidson had performed only a limited number of gastric bypass surgeries for weight loss. However, after asking questions, I was pleased to find out specifics about his experience and I am confidant in his surgical skills and am not discouraged by his relativly new focus on gastric bypass surgery.

You should know that there is a $1500.00 fee for the 3 year program of aftercare (which includes the exercise classes, nutritionist visits, office visits, etc.) that you will be responsible for, in addition to your individual insurance co-pays and deductibles that you have to pay for upfront before you can have surgery. But, it does not mean you can't file with your own insurance, which may cover all or part or none due to the fee including follow-up office visits, visits with a nutritionist, etc. Also, they have financing options available too. I would not let this deter me from going to Dr. Davidson and the Bariatric Surgery Center of Dallas.

Good Morning!!!

I had my initial consult and seminar on April 1, 2003 with Dr. Davidson. Let me start by saying his staff is amazing and the program they are in the process of putting together sounds like it is very complete. Be prepared to spend a good 4 hours up there, as they are very interested in treating you as an individual not ushering you through like a herd of cattle. It can make for a long day though, and since I wasn't prepared for that it made me a little weary by days end, but it was worth it. The keep the group number small, so they can talk to everyone. The seminar was very informative, not only did it give you information about the surgery, but also about the follow-up required, other surgeries available (not necessarily by him), overview of what to expect, and an idea of what their program included. Next was the individual consults, where you got to meet the staff that would be taking care of your needs and the doctor. To give you an idea of what to expect so you have everything ready: First you entered the office and gave Linda your insurance card/drivers license. Second while you are waiting your turn, go ahead and fill out the True/False test that you were given in the seminar and your general health questionare. Third, you are brought in where your temp, blood pressure, height/weight, and picture are taken by the nurses which are amazingly sweet, funny, and make you feel at ease. Next you meet with the Dr, who will answer any questions you may have. Dr. Davidson is a very matter of fact person, but is very informative. He has a dry sense of humor, so I don't think everyone gets it. His knowledge though will put you at ease and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Last, you meet again with Linda who will set you up a tentative date and give you information on where to go from there. Chris, the program director who patiently guides you through this whole process is amazing. He will make you feel comfortable, answer questions, and will make you laugh. The only thing so far that was a little bit annoying was the wait during the day, there was a couple of times during the office visit that I was waiting on personal phone calls to finish and staff/doctor meetings. That being said though, I feel very comfortable with this group of people. You basically end up with a warm, fuzzy, feeling when you walk out the door.

I have to say I love Dr. D. After having the surgery, my opinion of him is even greater!! He is very much a very matter of fact person, but I have complete confidence in his abilities. He saw me both days in the hospital, made sure I was up and walking, and really knows how to make you start getting the most out of the surgery from day one!!!

My first impression of Dr. Davidson was he is dry. Not to say he was not professional. He got the info he needed and sent you on your way. That didn't bother me because his office staff was great.

Aftercare is very important to this staff. They have there own program. I don't feel comfortable to commiting myself to a program because of the travel time for me. I am working on finding something in the Duncanville area. I do believe and want to be in an aftercare program. I will work on that.

Dr. Davidson and staff were very amazing. They really treat you as an individual. I felt like I had known them for along time. Chris had all my questions answer before I even got to meet with Dr.Davidson. I hope my insurance is approved soon so I can have the sugery and have more great things to say.

I met with Chris, the Bariatric Program Director, and Dr. Davidson on 4/1/03 and I was very impressed with their program. The program is relatively new and hence the doc has only performed a limited amount of these surgeries for the purposes of weight loss. However, once I completed the initial consult with the doc and his staff, I was confident in his abilities as a surgeon and impressed by his attention to detail.

The doc and his staff concentrate on individualizing the program to best suit you and they spend the time necessary to answer all of your questions. However, plan at least 4-5 hours for the initial consultation as the staff's intentions are not to rush you through but to provide you with the knowledge you need to make educated choices. During my meeting with the Dr. I expressed concern over my family medical history and the Dr. immediately added tests to my pre-op testing to insure that no surprises will be discovered on the operating table.

In addition, there is a 3yr structured after-care program as well as monthly support groups to help you post-op. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of the program and I feel much more at ease than I did at the beginning of this process.

3/7/03- Well i went for my consultation on 3/4/03 and it was smooth sailing!! Chris is great he is the program director and Dr. D is AWESOME. His staff are great and seem like they really care about you and about what you are going thru. Dr. D has a great 3 year after care program and it pretty much includes everything from exercising to nutrition classes to support groups. I am very impressed by that also!! Dr. D was very up front about the pro's and the con's of the surgery and spoke in no-doctor terms to make sure that i knew exactly what he was saying. I have to say I liked him very much plus did i mention He has been in "D" Magazine for several years as one of the top surgeons in Dallas, that made me even more comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. D and his staff!!!!
