Dr. Houston is a very professional to the T kind of doctor; however my favorite part about him is that you find out he really cares about his patients. I had a unexpected complication after my surgery and Dr. Houston took care of me and made sure everything was ok. Thank you Doctor!

Dr Houston is ... well awesome!! No other words...Of course there is so much more to the whole experience than just the physician. In fact, in my opionion the physician can be stellar, but without a great support staff he becomes just mediocre.

I started my journey with another physician group in another city, and I was really unhappy. I felt like I was part of a surgery mill. I was already through a great deal of the process when I started looking around. I found info about Centennial Center for Treatment of Obesity here on this board and googled them, emailed Pam Davis who is the program director... Well she called me back at 6:30pm that same evening and spend 25 min telling me about the program at Centennial. I was impressed from that phone call on... The only reservation was that Centennial is 3 hours away from my home... That quickly became a very minor detail.

First I dealt with the Financial Councelors to get all my records transferred and my insurance benefits verified. Heather became a lifeline. She always promptly responded to my calls/emails... And are you ready for this?!?!?! She frequently initiated emails of her own to keep me up to speed!!!

Next I dealt with Holly at Dr Houston's office. She was a dream. She treated me like a friend and listened to my special needs. She really cared about my timelime and my work situation. She went above and beyond her job to help me. ( And I seriously get the impression that she does this on a regular basis.) She helped me get my appointments scheduled AND get my pre-op stuff done and got me a terriffic surgery date!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Then there was the good doctor himself. I waiting on him.... (Are you ready for this????) like 10 min?!?!?!? Is that crazy or what?!?!?! How many times do you go to the doctor and wait like an hour? Not here.... (not gonna say it never happens but I seriously beleive that it is not the norm.) He has such a relaxed calming demenor and explained in great detail what to expect and what I would experience. He talked about obesity and discussed me inparticular while going over my records. He was very encouraging about the surgery and about being about to do it laprascopically.
He spent almost 30 min with me that first day.

My surgery went very well, and Dr Houston came every day to check on me. He praised me for doing a good job of getting fluids in, protein in and for walking. He listened to my questions and answered them without having one foot out the door of the hospital room!

The nursing staff that took care of me was great also. They were always right there almost before I needed anything and were very professional and cheerful! They seem like they really enjoy their jobs! They were awesome to my husband, too. When I did have to push the nurses call button, it never seemed that it was at all an inconvenience. Almost felt like that they were there just for me!!!

I don't think anyone could find a better "total package" than Dr Houson and the staff at Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obestiy! I know that my family and I are very pleased!!! Thank you everyone!!!!

I was referred to Dr. Hugh Houston by a friend that he performed a by pass on. Dr. Houston did the sleeve on me. I am very happy with Dr. Houston. At my first visit with him, he spent over an hour with me explaining the sleeve procedure, before and after care, and encouraged questions. He did not rush me in or out. He made me feel relaxed. His office staff has been very efficient when I have dealt with them and also treats me as a person rather than a number. Dr. Houston is very serious and wants you to do exactly as he says and the literature he gives you and will "fuss" if you do not follow his program to the letter. I have had a good experience with Dr. Houston and his staff.

I was not impressed with the Woman's Hospital at Centennial. I think their biggest problem was that they needed more staff. They appeared short handed. My stay was a Monday thru Wednesday and did not involve any weekend time when hospitals are usually short handed. I will not get into my displeasure with the Women's Hospital but there are many situations that I was not happy with and I am not a complainer.

Dr. Houston is simply amazing.. I will admit, I was a bit intimidated and nervous to met him after all the reviews I had read about him. Nothing bad, just that he was arrogant and cocky.. I don't do well with those types of people. I think some have mistaken knowledge and confidence as being arrogant and cocky. He listened to me, asked me questions, and really made me feel like he cared. He continued to refer to myself, my husband and himself as "team". That really got me and I knew right then and there I had chosen the best surgeon for me. I chose Dr. Houston because of the reviews I had read. His office staff is great and very helpful. I have called their office a dozen times and have never been made to feel that I was a nuisance. I highly recommend Dr. Houston and Centennial Bariatric Center.

I believe that Dr. Houston is a very skilled doctor. He thoroughly explained the procedure and the risks that come along with having surgery at the pre-op consultation and I felt very comfortable with him performing my surgery. I came out of surgery with zero complications. Dr. Houston and staff explained to me the importance of following dr.'s orders to avoid complications and I listened. : ) Dr. Houston, Pam Davis, Kathy Hungerford, and all of the rest of the staff of Centennial Treatment for Obesity were very friendly, kind and accommodating to me pre-op and post-op during my stay in the hospital. They provide a nutritionist, exercise physiologist, and psychologist led support groups for ongoing support after surgery. I feel like I have not only Dr. Houston supporting me, but a whole team of people to support me on this journey. I would recommend Dr. Houston and Centennial Center for Treatment of Obesity to anyone that is looking into having this surgery done. : )
I am currently 23 months post-op VSG. When I first started my weight loss journey my BMI was 50.3. Currently my BMI is 30.5. I have managed to lose more than 140 lbs and keep it off during this two year period of time. My friend Cindy referred me to Dr. Houston--she had VSG the year before I did. I witnessed her amazing transformation and knew that I was making a great decision when picking Dr. Houston as my surgeon.
Since having VSG two years ago, I am able to do so much more than I used to do. Exercise has become quite a bit easier! I currently do yoga and Zumba twice a week and CrossFit once a week. This before WLS would have been impossible to do at the intensity and frequency that I do them now. I have more energy for the students in my classroom and for my own kid when I get home. Losing this weight has dramatically increased my mobility and the quality of my life.
I live about two hours away from Centennial, so it takes a little while to get there from where I live. After my experience with them, If I had it to do over again, I would drive 6 hours to get to them. They have made me feel like part of there family throughout this whole process. Right after surgery, not only did Dr. Houston check on me frequently, but Pam and Kathy (Program and Assistant Program Mgr.)also came to visit and check in on me while in the hospital. Even though I live a distance away, I keep in touch with them through Facebook and always try to stay connected. Dr. Houston and his staff truly care about me and want me to be successful and that means a lot to me. Knowing that a whole team of people are rooting for me really has given me the motivation to "keep on keeping on". I am not finished losing weight yet and realize that my sleeve is a tool that I was blessed with that will help me get to my goal weight. I feel like keeping my appointments with Dr. Houston and staying in touch with my Centennial family help keep me on track and motivated throughout my journey.

Dr. Houston is a professional of varied means. He is concerned for his patients and takes time to listen to thier concerns. He goes above and beyond to ensure that his patients have the best quality of care from himself and associated hospital. He is reachable when needed, his office staff is excellent, and his surgical competence is above average. I would choose Dr. Houston over any doctor in the Nashville area. He explains procedures to ensure that you the patient understand the pros and cons. His bedside manner is genuine and no matter what others may say he is doctor who takes priority over his patient care then wanting to chit chat about the weather. He definitely has a sense of humor, but more importantly he is highly competent, informative, and intelligent. Overall, isn't that what most people want in a doctor?

had gastric bypass surgery monday 3/21/11. went home wednesday 3/23/11. everyone at the hospital was great, best i've had during a hospital stay. dr houston, well there is not enough space to tell you how much i like the way he treated me, and the attention he gave me, and the way he explained everything to me was ausome. he made me feel important, not just another $ sign, and besides that he's a nice guy, dr or not. i would recommend dr houston to anyone considering this type of surgery.

Dr. Houston is a great choice and the only surgeon who does the DS proceedure for Centenial and he is awesome in my opinion. I had a very tough time with recovery but have done excellent since. At first, I was not able to keep in liquids and food but he put me on TPN and I was able to move along. I am being successful with my loss. After 4 mos out I feel more normal. His staff is fab and he returns calls and once you get to talking to him you realize he has alot of info to share for your wellbeing. I would have to say sometimes my jokes don't get him to crack a smile but I am not always that funny... He is more concerned with me doing well and being healthy. I highly reccomend him!

My surgery was on February 8th and I am very impressed with Dr. Houston and the entire Centennial staff. My first impression of Dr. Houston was that he was very professional and didn't feed you a bunch of fluff. He was honest, to the point, and gave you information that would be helpful to your overall sucess. Also, it appeared that he actually cares about his patients more than a payment and gives you advice on what would be the best course of action for you as an individual. Dr. Houston does expect his patients to be knowledgable and to make decisions based on research and knowledge rather than on a whim. Also, there is a very strong empahsis and expectation of lifelong aftercare and Centennial's program is very structured. Overall I would rate him a "five star" surgeon and would recommend him to anyone.
