ALL
Due to sercomstances...My experances with Dr Juarez were limited and few...from what I have experanced he is a gental well mannered Dr....he's got a good bed side manner...his staff can sometimes leave you hanging with phone calls in a time to that is very important ...they seemed to be more relaxed in the nature of timelyness but it's understandble...they are not the ones waiting on pins and needs for any tid bit of information...Dr Juarez does have a structured aftercare program that is run through the Weigh Management Center at Lukes where he performs his surgerys...the program is very good...including support groups which if I lived in the area I would of attened....Dr Jaurez does address all risks...and he explained each of them to me...I would rate him overall a good Dr....I would say his bedside manner and surgical competence are both great...if I had to do it again I would return to him.
Only met him once so far...Seemed very busy and was not very personable....Did what he had to do and left....However, the program has been very supportive. Had a class on nutrition and pshyciatric exam which seemed very thorough. There is a support group which I plan to attend. Met other patients who felt very secure and excited about the future.
Thought he was very professionl, to the point, surgery will not keep the weight off forever, lots of committment and the risks. I have met him twice and still feel the same way. So far the office staff has been fine. Seemed to go a little slow at first but maybe it was just me. Enjoyed Dr. Merkel!! The dietician is a godsend!! I am sure that I will be in contact with her alot. Hope she has lots of patience. A very strong emphasis on aftercare and learning a whole new eating and living life pattern. So far I would rate this group a 9 plus. I hope that I feel that way after the surgery next week. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers for a successful and relatively easy surgery.
I realy liked the doctor and his staff.
Met dr. Zahn in support group, has NO
bedside banner. Like Dr. Juarez.
The support group at st. Lukes is
fabulous.I think it would be better if they
required a complete exam sooner then the week before surgery.
December 26, I am 2 weeks post op and thrilled with my Dr. I have definateley changed my mind about Dr. Zahn having no bedside manner. I saw him with patients in the hospital and he was great. St. Lukes leaves a whole lot to be desired. Have someone stay with you, that would be my best advise! Dr. Juarez has been great and easy to talk to.I also have been very pleased with his staff.
My first surgeon , Dr. Huse was very to the point and matter of fact. I liked that- although the group of people I went through the orientation with didnt seem to have done any research on the procedure he realized quickly that I had during our one-on-one interview. I appreciated that.
However, I was furious to learn that there were other- more successful procedures I could have undergone that would have produced better results.
Dr Juarez seems very knowledgable and I like his frank-to the point- attitude. I have the same thing- so we are both arrogant and that works well. His staff SUCKS!! The lie, they dont return calls and they drag thier feet. The first time I was in the office my son's blanket fellout of his car seat and I went back to look for it. I wasn't allowed to go into the exam room to look and they told me it wasn't there. They were very rude and had down right nasty attitudes when I asked them if they would write the note that Dr Juarez had just told me that they would write.
So I dont like his staff one bit... but Dr Juarez is fine.
FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. JUAREZ WAS GOOD. I HAVE BEEN A RN FOR MANY YEARS AND SPECIALITY IN SURGERY SO I CAN READ WELL THE IMPRESSIONS A SURGEON CAN GIVE TO HIS PATIENT. THE STAFF AT ST.LUKES ARE NICE AND EASY TO TALK TO AND ARE HELPFUL WITH QUESTIONS. Update: November 14, 2000: I am curently almost 2 weeks post op from a proximal open procedure and doing well. My hospital stay was 2 days at phoenix, Arizona St.Lukes 6th floor. My hospital stay was excellent and my nurses were friendly, knowledgable about bariatric surgery, and caring. They instructed my in all the important aspects: use of abdminal binder, turn cough and deep breathing, use of my incentive spitometer to prevent pneumonia, walking with a pillow to splint the belly, diet of clear to full liquids, pain control, and vert supportive of the NG removal. I contribute my success without set backs to competent nursing staff. I am on full liquids and tolerating my meals. I use chicken bouillin, sugar-free frozen bars and jello to curb my now coming on an appetite. I have been walking, shopping, and went hiking on flat ground but was tired after awhile of walking. Each day brings more energy and less incisional pain. I am not taking any more pain medication now too (liquid vicodin). I did have a problem around 5 days post-op with constipation from all the pain meds. Warm prune juice 2 tablespoons or 1 tablespoon warm prune/Milk of Magnesia per the dietician to promote stools. Guideline to have a bowel movement every 2 days. Also, small of applejuice works well too. My aftercare program at St.Lukes is very structured with 2 monthly support meetings a month. The dietician is very helpful and returns your calls when you have a question. The psychologist appears to be willing to answer questions about behavioral/emotional issues during our support meetings. Dr. Juarez's clinical support nurse is helpful and follows up on issues and offers her self as a patient advocate is needed. My overall surgery experience including interacting with my surgeon was excellent.
