Cahill seemed competent. He answered all of my questions such as: how many patients have died, gotten ulcers, had to have dilation, etc. He was also very honest about the hospital facilities. I also asked him what he thought about the nurses on the floor and he assured me that if I had a problem, all I had to do was call him directly and he would rectify any concerns or problems. I had done so much research on this site that I felt prepared for our consult. His office staff was polite and courteous. The after care does seem structured. I'll know after I get approval and an actual date.
I immediately liked Dr. Cahill - I was very comfortable with him and trusted him completely. Over time my trust increased. He is very compassionate and makes you his number 1 priority! He never rushes you. His surgical nurse, Tony Romeo, is great too! He is there for you 24/7 - he answered all of the many e-mail questions I sent him before surgery. He runs the entire program, including the informational seminars and the support group meetings. His office staff (Donna & Mary) are wonderful. They are always so pleasant to deal with, even with the many phone calls inquiring about something or changing my surgery date - they're there for you and give you their complete attention. They are always glad to see you and get very excited with you with the weight loss. They're so busy and yet never rush you or brush you off! They truly are remarkable! There is nothing I didn't like about Dr. Cahill. I feel he is a gift from God - and has the Midas Touch! During my consultation he went into great detail about the procedure, covering everything, including all the risks. The aftercare program is very structured! They insist upon regular follow-up appointments and attending the monthly support group meetings. Overall I rate him OUTSTANDING! His surgical competence is great - if I ever need surgery in the future I would want him to do it (and my incision is so thin and perfect!)! His bedside manner is tremendous. I looked forward to his visit each day in the hospital - he is very soft spoken and gentle! As I said before, he makes you feel so important and gives you his complete attention! I was so nervous right before surgery - his visit the hour before surgery had such a calming affect and re-enforced my decision. I just knew with him doing the surgery nothing would go wrong! I highly recommend him to everyone! There is nothing negative I can say about Dr. Cahill, Tony or his office staff. I thank God every day for being referred to Dr. Cahill!!!!!!
I MET WITH DR. CAHILL AND FELT VERY COMFORTABLE. BUT WHEN I WAS THERE I WAS SO TAKEN IN BY EVERTHING I FROXE ON THE QUESTIONS THAT I HAD IN MIND TO ASK HIM. I COULD OF ASKED HIM ANYTHING AND I FEEL THAT HE WOULD OF HAD ANSWERS BUT I FROZE. HIS NURSE TONY AND STAFF HAVE BEEN GREAT AND I AM NOW WAITING ON ANSWER FROM INSURANCE, I CALLED YESTERDAY ( 3RD CALL) AND THEY SAID TO CALL BACK ON THE 3RD OF JULY, BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE ON VACATION THE 4TH. OK.
ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE WRITE THEM DOWN AND ASK.
HE SPOKE OF THE RISK AND PROMOTES THE AFTER CARE PROGRAM FULLY
My first impression of Dr. Cahill was a little ambivalent. I was kind of put off because he was a little "in my face," but he was also very professional and not at all condescending. The more I talked with him and asked him my own personal questions, he began to open up and I feel secure that he is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He explained the risks very thoroughly, and all of the details of what exactly he will be doing to my anatomy. In no way was he "selling" the surgery, which is reassuring. I don't think I could complain about his bedside manner, and he definitely seems like a very competent surgeon.
Had first consultation with Dr. Cahill on 5-21-03. Although he was running late he didn't make me feel like he was rushing me when my turn came. He was very nice, personable and informative. My husband and I both liked him from the start. It only took me a week to get an appointment with him. His office was very nice and made for the larger person in mind. It sounds like there is a very structured before and after care program which is something I was definately looking for.
I have an appointment this month (April 2003) with Dr. Cahill and will post afterwards.
5/5/03 - I met with Dr. Cahill on April 16th. He was very caring and did not "rush" me. We talked in depth about the surgery and what I could expect. Because I will be -- for the most part -- home alone after surgery, we talked about that as well and how the support group will be beneficial in that aspect. He thinks he can do the laparascopic surgery for the gastric bypass, but explained that if there are complications, it could revert to an "open." That's cool with me.
1st impression - I can't believe a doctor actually spent time TALKING to me and LISTENING!!!! I thought Dr. Cahill was knowledgable and sincere. He didn't try to sugarcoat it and made me feel like my time was valuable. He is very friendly and approachable.
The nurse Tony is a hoot! He is very well suited for his line of work. He makes you feel comfortable right off the bat.
Donna is great too.
Aftercare actually starts before the surgery. I had to go to a meeting/class with patients who had already gone throught the procedure. Very interesting.
Dr Cahill seems very nice. I was comfortable from the start and the more we talked, the more comfortable I became. Donna is wonderful and never made my multiple phone calls seem like a nuisance. April 2003-- Even at 6 months out and a 75 pound loss so far, I still feel the same. I do not regret my decision at all. Dr Cahill, Tony, Donna and Mary are just as supportive as ever. They even look excited to see me when I am in the office and at support group. A team effort all the way!!!!!
Dr. Cahill is one of the most professional doctors I have had the pleasure of meeting.
He is very honest about surgery and expects his patients to be well informed about the surgery and potential risks envolved. He emphasizes aaftercare program. Itis the best that I have seen from the several doctors I researched.
He also WILL NOT chance your health... I have first hand experience with that! I was supposed to have surgery 4/7/03, and woke up with a allergic reaction to something (I am still not to sure what caused it). I was hooked up to the iv, waiting for surgery when he made the decision to wait. We rescheduled the surgery for a little over a week later. He wanted me to be it top shape for the surgery, and absolutely did not want to risk my health. As he said, the surgery is risky enough, there is no reason to add even more risk to it. I was disappointed, but also felt even more secure in my choice of doctors. I knew I was in the best hands possible. As I told my husband, there is a reason he has such a great reputation.
His staff have been WONDERFUL to me... Tony is very personable, and seems to always make me laugh. Evem when he is making me get up and walk.
Mary is sweet all of my interactions with her have been positive.
DONNA has been a LIFESAVER for me... I have waited for over a year to get this surgery approved. I have gone through 3 different insurance companies, and while each WOULD approve me, they WOULD NOT approve me having it through Dr. Cahill. Donna has with me through every step of the way. She has laughed with me, and felt my disappointment. Dr. Cahill has a gem in her!
Overall Dr. Cahill on a list of 1-10 are 100!
