G. Derek Weiss Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My first impression was and is that the practice as a whole is what makes this program so special. From the first phone call to meeting the surgeon I have felt cared for and that someone finally was taking me and my weight issue seriously. It was not longer a "just push yourself away from the table" issue and more of a "lets treat this medical condition" issue. Aftercare is an extrememly important part of the program and the main reason that I chose this particular program. The risks of surgery are serious and the steps that are taken to help prevent some of the post-op complications are very structured.

Overall the entire program I rate very highly.
The only difficulty that I have had is that before insurance approval I felt that I was put in a low call back stack... for instance it was a bear to try and get my phone number and address changed prior to approval... good thing I still had my cell phone or I would have been lost in the system...

Dr Weiss is great. Very kind, knowledgeable and professional. His entire staff is well trained and compassionate. The entire group, including Dr Weiss, appear to take very seriously the job they are doing and do everything they can to assist those who are pre and post op. Great aftercare, follow up and support. A first class organization.

My first impression of Dr. Weiss was that he was a kind, caring, understanding person, not just a doctor who was out to make money. My first impression changed in that he was even nicer than I first thought, if that is possible. The office staff that he has is absolutely wonderful. They are also kind and caring, and I think most of them are there working because they love what they do, and not just a job to go to. The only thing that I don't like about this office and it's staff is that it's not closer to me! I drive approx. two hours now to get there, but that is okay, because they are so wonderful I would drive as long as it took to get to this particular office. I believe that future patients should know that Dr. Weiss does not fool around when it comes to people's health. If he does not believe that WLS is for you, and beneficial, he will not do it just to make the money. The aftercare program that this staff has is wonderful. They developed numerous support groups, both on and off site, as well as on line. They give their numbers out to patients and are always on call and available to patients 24-7. Dr. Wiess emphasizes the aftercare tremendously, as he believes that WLS is a tool, and that tool needs to be used correctly in order to work properly. I had an appt. with him just today, and I was very frustrated. Even though I was sitting there with tears in my eyes, he was understanding, but tough, telling me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear, and giving instructions on how to accomplish the advice he was giving me. He took the time to sit and explain things out to me, instead of saying "blah, blah, blah, blah, see you in six weeks." Dr. Weiss as well as his staff always stress the risks as well as the benefits of this surgery. As I stated above, if he believes there is a greater risk to the person to have surgery, he will not do it, plain and simple. I would rate Dr. Weiss and his staff the highest rating that could be given to them. After all, how can you not after they have given it all they have, even when there were times when you wanted to quit. They all stood right behind me with that "kick in the butt" I needed and would not le me quit. I have never been disappointed in any way of either Dr. Weiss or his staff. They never cease to amaze me with their love and support, as it is genuine. There is no comparing Dr. Weiss's beside manner/surgical competence to other doctors, not with me, as none would live up to my expectations after having been a patient of his. Thanks Dr. Weiss and staff of Georgetown Bariatrics and Georgetown Community Hospital, for helping me to feel alive again.

Dr.Weiss is a wonderful surgeon. When I first met him, he was warm and caring. He explained everything very well and gave me time to ask questions. While I was in the hospital he was good to talk to my family and let them know how I was doing. All in all exactly the way we want a surgeon to be. He went into detail about the after care, that made me feel better about the surgery. If I had to rate him on a scal e of 1 to 10, he would definitely be a 10!!!!!!.

I thought that he really cared for me, and what problems i was haveing trying to loss weight. He was very concered about my health.I have not changed my feeling for him at all. The office staff is worderfull they will help you in way they can.
There is nothing that i don't like about him.He is a worderfull man.
That he is the best and i would recommened anyone to him.
A whole lot they sure don't forget about you like some of the other drs. that i have experiences with, he is top of the line with aftercare.He has alot of support group meeting and a hotline if you have any questions at all they are there day and night.
He wanted to make sure that you new every detail about the whole surgery. The risks and going to support groups before the surgery and after. And they really listen to your questions,and made sure they got you a answer.
He is very excellent.He is number 1 in my book.
I can not pick between surfical competence ,bedside manner because they both are excellent.

My first impression of Dr. Weiss was that he was a compassionate and competent physician. Dr. Weiss took the time to address all of my concerns and answered all of my questions in a very straightforward approach. My impression has not changed since my surgery. My surgery went very well, and thus far I have not experienced any complications. I believe Dr. Weiss is a highly skilled surgeon who strives to carry out this surgery in the safest way possible. My overall impression of the surgical staff at Bluegrass Bariatrics the staff of Bariatric Center of Georgetown has been very positive. They have an extensive aftercare program and as I gain more imformation about the aftercare program, I will post further comments.

Dr. Weiss is a very professional man. He is very caring in his practice of WLS and I felt 100% safe with him. He and Dr. Oldham are a great team of dr's that I do/would recommend to everyone. I attended 2 seminars before the thoughts of WLS stuck in my mind, and it was the presentation and the way that Dr. Weiss presented it that made me choose this team of dr's. The nurses that were there, Cathi & Jo, were very professional as well and answered everything we asked to the best of their knowledge and knowing that they both have had the surgery, they knew what we were to expect and answered us from a "patient" point of view as well. The entire staff at Georgetown make you feel like a part of the family and the support is great too. The support before and after surgery is the best out there in my opinion. All of us talk daily, WLS topics and off topic too...Just keeping close to each other and if we do have a problem we can talk about it to our other WLS peers and have answers to our questions within minutes. I really like Dr. Weiss, He was very informative. He listened to what I had to say and answered my question thoroughly. He didn't seem in a hurry to get out of the room.
He visited my room at least a couple of times a day when I had my surgery. If I had any problems or questions he was quick to respond. No matter the time or day.
The aftercare program is awesome. His office makes sure that you well informed after your surgery and before you leave the hospital. The staff is awesome.
If I had to rate Dr. Weiss on a scale of 1-10 I would rate him a 12.
I recommend anyone that is close to Georgetown, consider looking into Dr. Weiss and Bluegrass Bariatrics.

Dr. Weiss is the greatest! He is very personable and always has a warm smile on his face for his patients. My impression of him stayed the same as my process continued. The office staff is also great and they are all very very supportive. The aftercare is excellent and Dr. Weiss and his staff are always there to assist you and check up on you. The aftercare program is very structured. Dr. Weiss addresses the risk factor very clearly so you may make a well-informed opinion. I would rate him the BEST! and recommend him to everyone...everything about him is wonderful.

Dr.Weiss is a very caring,concerned and skilled surgeon.The support group and nurses are the best I have seen.The office staff is very quick to answer any questions and the big plus is if you need them someone is available 24 hours a day to help! I would highly reccomend Dr.Weiss, Dr.Oldham and the whole Georgetown experience!
