I felt very comfortable with Dr. Facundus the first time I met him. I remember wondering if I could trust this man with my life. After he talked to me for a long time, explaining the surgery, requirements from me, and what my life would be like afterward, he asked if I had any questions. He was so thorough that I couldn't think of a thing he hadn't covered.rnrnHis office staff is incredible. I have called so many times with such stupid questions, and they have always been very patient and kind.rnrnCan I trust him with my life? Yes.rnrnrn<img src=\"http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/profiletester/music/music_renoir_divider.jpg\"><img src=\"http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/profiletester/music/music_renoir_divider.jpg\"><img src=\"http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/profiletester/music/music_renoir_divider.jpg\"><img src=\"http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/profiletester/music/music_renoir_divider.jpg\">rnrnThis page was spruced by:<a href=\"mailto:[email protected]\"><img src=\"http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/profiletester/music/music_renoir_spruced.jpg\"></a><br/><br/>
I met Dr. Facundus on my first visit to his office. He was nice, professional and of course like everyone says, nice looking. I also met one of his associates...Dr. Fernandez. Dr. Fernandez was actually the one who spent the most time with me explaining the procedure and doing a brief physical exam.rnrnThe office staff was nice and have been helpful.rnrnDr. Facundus is very big on aftercare. He requires that you visit the Bariatric Counselor, Nutritionist and a support group before you even meet with him for the first time. The Bariatric Wellness Institute is the entity that he is associated with to accomplish the aftercare goals. They check your metabolism before surgery and at one year, have nutritionists on staff and run the support groups. Since everything I read says that patients who are serious about aftercare do better, I'm happy that my surgeon stresses this as well.
Dr Facundus is great; his staff treated me at all times professionally thru ALL the questions and concerns I had. He was just as great post-op as he was pre-op!rnrnThe only negative was I had to re-fax a couple of labs to the office but I was on top of it and kept copies just in case.rnrnAftercare is scheduled when surgery is scheduled. The emphasis on aftercare is extreme - he understands that aftercare is critical to success post-op.rnrnOverall I would rate him excellent
All of my appoiintments were on the same day because I live out of state. Except, the physician appointment was not made because he was off that day and the office somehow made a mistake. I was willing to schedule my appointment to meet Dr. Facundus at a later date; but his Office Manager apologized and stated that Dr. Facundus was called and he stated that if I could wait, then he would be there shortly to see me. I thought that was great of him to go out his way to see me. When I met him, he was so polite and his bed side manners reminded me of my favorite family doctor in Huntsville (Dr. Garber). He explained the different types of surgeries to me and my husband and we were so pleased with him. He actually made me feel comfortable about the procedure. His staff was also great. I had my consultation with Christie, my dietician appoinitment with Hunter, my insurance appointment with Stephanie, and I had a helicobacter Pylori Breath Test with Sonya. I was very pleased with his staff. It was more than what I expected. I had a Metabolic Test in which I think is a great thing to have. It informed me about my breathing and everything. Now the Helicobacter Pylori Breath Test was so amazing because it will tell if you have bacteria in your stomach in which I think everyone needs to take whether they have the surgery or not. I'm considering my family to take this test because with the bacteria in your stomach it can later be bad for you. Everyone was so thorough in the office making sure that I understood everything about the surgery and the eating afterwards. Something else that I liked about Dr. Facundus is that he will not let you have the surgery until you go to a group session and it has to be signed by the group session leader. I thought that was showing much care because I need to know how people feel afterwards. So, I've found a group in my area and I'll be attending it this month. Another thing I liked about Dr. Facundus is that he stated to me that he wants me to start losing weight before my surgery and that he will not do the surgery if I weighed more than I did that day. That was good because some people would think \"since I'm having the surgery, then let me eat all I can until then\". But not me, I actually do exercise 3-4 times a week and I do watch what I eat and I know that I can get down to 310-318 before my surgery. That's my goal. He expressed to me that I have to go strictly by the diet plan and to make sure that I know that this is a life change experience; because after 1 1/2 years, if I'm not doing it correctly that I can gain the weight back. I'm a very straight to the point kinda gal. I don't like sugar coating, I like straight up not beating around the bush type of person and he was truly that. I would rate Dr. Facundus and his office from 1-10, I'll give them a 10. They gave the best of both surgical competence and bedside manners.
Dr. Facundus is great. He is very knowledgable and will answer all questions. I would highly recommend him as a physician. He is professional with a friendly staff. He does stress aftercare and if you're in his area it's done at the BWI located in the same building. They are great there, too. Overall I rate him a 10 as a physician. The only thing I didn't like about the office staff is I was not told about out of pocket cost until 3 days before my preop visit when it would be due. I do feel they should have informed me of this much sooner. Otherwise they were great.
Dr Facundus was very kind. He looked me in the eye the entire time he went thoughly covered the procedure, possible complications, follow up care. He did tell me not to gain any more weight before surgery. He requires you to quit smoking at least 8 weeks before surgery. He will do a nicotine test and reschedule your surgery if you are busted smoking. He went into detail as to why nicotine has a bad effect on this procedure and can cause leaking or ulcers so I needed to NEVER start smoking again
After all my research, and now having finally met the man, I'm convinced I have the best surgeon in the SouthEast to do this surgery for me. I feel very lucky to be his patient.
I will update after the surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Facundus was very positive. Having seen two other surgeons before him, he was the first to sit down and go over the specific risks for my surgery instead of risks that anyone could have. He explains things in more detail and has been very blunt about what he wants me to do before he'll perform the surgery. I have already had more testing done than with any of the first two doctors. The bariactric center staff if very friendly and very supportive.
