I had my first meeting with Dr Roye in July of 2003. He made me feel very comfortable right off. He answered all of my questions and then some. He's young but quite bright and knows his stuff. I know I'll be in good hands with Dr Roye. His staff was profesionall and kind. His nurse Hellen went over all risks and made sure all my questions were answered fully.I never felt rushed at all.Dr Roye is the kind of Dr that tells it like it is and dosen't tell you only what you want to hear. He's a straight shooter. When you leave his office you have a pretty good idea of the benifits and risks to do with this type of surgery. My next office visit is end of Jan. 2004 to find out if i'll have surgery and results of my test. I have compleated all tests and hope for a surgery date by that time. I would have to rate Dr Roye a 10.
At first I thought he was just another typical surgeon. I have had other operations, and have gotten used to seeing my surgeon before and just a few times after the operation. My overall impression changed overtime because Dr. Roye really cares about his patients. I went through a rough period of recovery after my WLS. And Dr. Roye and his staff helped me through every step of the way. When I thought I was not going to make it through he told me that he was going to take good care of me. And he has. His staff is second to none. I go into the office I know everyone on a first name basis even the receptionists. Future patients should know that Dr. Roye and his staff really know how to treat their patients, and because of the dedication and care I feel I have an extended family, and new friends. His emphasis on aftercare is very important, it is the basis of the success each operation.
How would I rate Dr. Roye overall? Dr. Roye is TOPS in my book. With my faith in God, I was able to put my life in Dr. Roye's hands.
Thank you Dr. Roye for helping me change my life.
Dr. Roye is the best! i am so glad I went with him.I think his assistant Helen is great too. They both answer all my questions and try to make sure your doing as best as you can. I have already recommended him to others. I have had no complications from the surgery which I think is a sign that I have a wonderful surgeon! I can say that honestly the only think that I don't like about my experience with Dr. Roye is that when you go to see him for appointments he is always running 1/2 hour to an hour late.
I rally like him he is professional but seems very caring. His office staff was very warm and sincere He explained the whole procedure and ordered the tests as soon as the insurance approved all tests. I have started the testing and will complete before xmas. after the first of the year I will consult again. upon completion of the sleep study the the surgery will be schelduled as soon as possible. I am very excited about getting everything done so fast. he explained all risks and all different types of procedures together we decided on what was best for me. he is very well liked and respected. I am very lucky to get the appointment with him.
Dr. Roye's office staff is wonderful. Annette was very helpful in getting the approval from my insurer, who initially said that they never got a request for the surgery.(Obviously they were procrastinating, so that they didn't have to pay.)Once I switched carriers I was approved in 6 days.
From the minute that I sat down with Dr. Roye he explained to me just what the surgery involved and he and Helen actually drew out a picture of what my insides will look like when my surgery is done. He told me the risks and the benefits and he emphasized alot on aftercare.
Being preop and only spending a few minutes with Dr. Roye I can't say much about his bedside manner but I have seen his finished work (I have a friend that Dr. Roye performed surgery on)and knowing what I know from her and visiting the support group at Rhode Island Hospital, I would reccommend Dr. Roye to anyone. I feel like I can trust him and he will take good care of me in that operating room.
October 21,2003-I had seen a statement that "No person can be the "best" in all aspects", here on Obesityhelp and I also read that 100% postitive reviews are generally less informative or even suspect.Well, I am here to tell you that this is so incorrect.I don't have a single bad thing to say about Dr.Roye. He is the BEST there is. His good looks, his personality, his surgical competence,& his bedside manner go above and beyond what I expect in a doctor. He truly cares for his patients and it shows. He gave me my life back......
My first impression was of how young he actually is. But then he started to explain the whole procedure and why I had to have an open surgery vs the lap ( which is what I would have preferred)!
I immediately got approval from my husbands insurance company! Then I learned that I had to be at my job for a year before I could take a leave of absence and not lose my position. I started this "quest" in October of 2002 and finally had my surgery on August 26, 2003!!
Dr. Roye and Helen both answered every question I had, even the annoyingly repeatitive ones I would ask!
His staff was always very polite and helpful.
Pre-op: He came to see me in the pre-op holding area and told me it was time to let him be the doc and me be the patient!! ( I work in an ER and sometimes too much knowledge will drive you crazy) But he quickly calmed me down and I knew that I was in good hands.
I woke up in the post-op expecting alot of different IV lines and was actually surprised to have just the one regular IV.
His residents that came to see me were all very nice and very knowledgeable. They answered all the questions that I had. Dr. Roye came to see me every day and gave me alot of encouragement.
I personally think that there is no better surgeon for this than Dr. Roye. In my book he is the best!!!!!
Hi you all, Dr. Dean Roye in Providence, Rhode Island is an excellent doctor!! He is young but very professional and knows his job very well. In August of 2002, he performed surgery on me removing my gallbladder and repairing a massive hernia I had. At that time I was denied by United Health for coverage of the gastric bypass surgery becuase of an "exclusion" in their policy. Dr. Roye is somone I highly recommend.
Dr. Roye is wonderful. From the time I met with him until the day that I was discharged from the hospital he and his office staff was there for me and my questions. He came and saw me pre-op and I trusted his imput on pain control choices and what he thought was the best.
I work in a different hospital and let me tell you when it comes to surgeons Dr. Roye is tops. He stopped in everyday to see and and gave me a swift kick in the pants when I said I was in to much pain to walk. He told me to get up and walk and I would feel better and he was right. Within a day I was feeling much better.
He explained all the risks and answered every question i asked from what is his death rate to my biggest side affect.
Out of 1 -10 I rate Dr. Roye 16 he is the best.
The only negative thing I can say is that the day of surgery there was a schedule change and no one let me know so I waited 5 1/2 hours for my surgery.
Very professional physician. He drew pictures and explained the surgery to me as well as gave me written information. He took the time to listen to my questions and concerns and did not give me "rushed" answers.
Helen, his RNP, is also very caring and visited me in the hospital and answered all my questions concerning diet and activity.
Dr. Roye visited me daily, even on his day off. The Residents examined me daily as well.
Well organized and informative Pre-op teaching class which included the physical therapist, dietician, and two nurses from the two different units; very educational and relieved any post-op concerns.
