Dr. Von Rueden is quiet yet very confident. The more I see him the more comfortable I am with him. His staff is nice, his receptionist Cherie is very very friendly and welcoming. The best part about him doing the procedure is that it's a rule with him that you get a semi private room, but your loved one can stay in the other bed. This was so helpful to me. He is very thorough, will call you if necessary, has pre-op and post-op seminars. I am very happy that I went to him and would rate him at the top of the list. I think his surgical competence ranks a little higher than bedside manner, but he's a great guy.
He is now in Baltimore and many of his patients from Philly come all that way to continue being his patient.
Dr. Von Reuden was professional, friendly, and compassionate. Each and every interaction with him has confirmed my trust in him is well deserved. Cherie, the receptionist, is always sweet and helpful, as are the other staff members. There is nothing I don't like about him or find objectionable. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others considering surgery. He is no longer at the Pa. Hospital; his practice is now at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The hospital nursing staff was always kind, considerate and helpful. There are monthly support group meetings that I will begin to attend in Jan. He was very direct in answering my questions regarding risks and outcomes. Given that Dr. Von Reuden is a gifted surgeon with a caring bedside manner, I'd have to rate him 5 Stars! Try as I might, I can't find anything less than wonderful to say about him, and I've referred several friends to him with no reservation.
My first impression of Dr. Von Rueden was that he was very kind, caring, and patient. He took a lot of time going over all of the information with me.
The only other people that I have been in contact with in his office are the receptionist (Cherie - a real sweetie) and the nutritionist (Sloane - very informative), and I found them both to be very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
The insurance coordinator (Carolyn - very nice) was very proficient, and I was approved after she submitted the first letter to the insurance company.
I am VERY pleased with the way that everything turned out!!! The hospital was great and my surgeon was excellent (he's definitely a 10). My surgery went very well, and I never experienced any real pain - just some soreness / discomfort.
I absolutely love Dr. Von Rueden. He isn't much of a talker, but then again when someone talks to much that can mask other things. He is a very intelligent, doesn't rush you and is very concerned about his patients before and most importantly after surgery. His staff is wonderful. GBMC was wonderful. All in all I have a had a wonderful experience with the doc, his staff and the hospital!!!

Well, I've am unable to go with Dr. Ren and now I have chosen Dr. David Von Rueden he just opened his practice at the hospital I work for GBMC, hopefully his reviews, that I've read are as good as they claim they are. GBMC has been known to be one of the best and the entire hospital has been remodeled, so this will be exciting to see. I will update after I meet him at the info session his next info session. I really wish I could have went with Dr. Ren though, should we be out of network but she is worth every penny!!!!!

All I can say right now about Dr. Ren, is that she knows her stuff. I only got to meet with briefly, at the required orientation. However she is very informative, she makes you feel comfortable, and she has no problems with answering any & all questions you may have. I meet with the psychologist she referrs all her patients too see (Dr. Huberman). Now that he has giving me clearence to have the surgery. I have arranged to meet with Dr. Ren in 2 weeks. So I will have to update this after my appointment with her.

Well I met with Dr. Ren and only thing I can say is she really knows her stuff. Dr. ren was very impressed with my through knowledge of the surgery, the outcome, what it entails. She is very, very, through. Dr. Ren will not approve or refer anyone for surgery if she feels that her patient can not mentally handle the life-chang you will have to make after this surgery. She is very, very strict about her aftercare program which is structured. Her concern & care for her patients amazes me. I can wait 'till my surgery date, which she gave me on the spot (tentative date!) Whoa!
I have found Dr. VR to be helpful and concerned when need be. Bethann, his assistant, has also been very helpful. I feel that most of the praise needs to be heaped upon Cherie (I'm so sorry if I spelled that wrong) and Caroline. They go above and beyond the call of duty to help out and make sure you have the appts, test results, etc that you need. The pre-operative educational system that Dr. VR has in place is the best I've seen or heard about with any of the other surgeons. He makes sure you are very well versed in any side effects or complications that may happen. The only gripe I have is this...I wish he took out your gallbladder at the time of surgery. Being a person who already needs her gallbladder out, it's inconvenient for me to have to come back for yet another surgery.
Dr. Von Rueden, Beth Ann, Cheri and the wonderful lady who deals with all of the insurance stuff are the best! They are compassionate, caring, understanding and helpful! I am so happy that Dr. Von Rueden and Beth Ann have come to GBMC!
I wanted to have the surgery in 1997, but I did not have the same support from the previous Dr. and staff that I am receiving from Dr. Von Rueden and his staff!
Beth Ann and Dr. Von Rueden explained the risks of the surgery and the process in lenght! The pre-op informational sessions were great. Beth Ann is very funny and she really knows her stuff!
One of the sessions were canceled, but I didn't get the message before hand. There were two other ladies that didn't either, so Dr. Von Rueden sat down with us, on a Saturday, and answered all of our questions and gave us more information.
Dr. Von Rueden and his staff get 100% form me! A+++++++ :) I'll Let you know more after the surgery, I have only nice things to say!
I found him to be rather reserved, friendly and informative. I have only met with him once to date. His staff is incredible and I look forward to my visits with them. Patients should know ahead of time that they could encounter bumps along the way and the best way the staff has told me to handle them has been with patience and confidence. They have really helped me stay focused and have reminded me that the most important thing ultimately is my health now and in the long run. The staff and all of my doctors have been painfully honest about the process and my responsiblity throughout the process. You should definetly excpect the same from your doctor. There are risks mentally and physically. Dr. von Rueden so far has been great and since I am more familiar with his staff I can say with confidence that they really are there to help you when you need it.
