I just finished with my initial consultation with Dr. Syn September 8th, 2005 and I found him to be a very caring and upfront Dr. He wants to make sure you will be able to withstand surgery before he does it, which is good, he doesn't want to just "jump" in there. Right now I will be working towards losing some more weight in order to be in better shape to have surgery. He really stressed the risks of having this surgery and his expectations on follow-up care. He is a no-nonsense Dr. and expects you to follow his directions to the T. I will be seeing him in October to see where I stand . Hopefully things will be good. As far as his staff goes, they are just wonderful. Very helpful and courteous.
I like him a lot. He is kind and very able.
The office staff is great and very helpful. They really go the extra mile.
The only thing I wish was different is that I wished the post 3 week diet would have been explained in a little more detail
He has very structured aftercare. He sees you at 1wk, 2wks, and then monthly for the duration
He adequately explained the risks of surgery.
Overall, I would rate him as fantastic!!!
I had first been on Dr. Donald Fry's waiting list of over a year when I made an appt. to see him. I started all the pre-op testing only to fine out later he was not going to be doing surgeries. I was then referred to Dr. Freeza in Lubbock. I know I have read nice things about him on this site but I really did not like that doctor. I was crying by the time I left his office and almost decided not to have the surgery at all. A friend talked me into seeing Dr. Syn. Hesitantly I went to see Dr. Syn and was truly surprised - I knew from the moment he walked into the room that this was the surgeon for me. And his staff has been VERY helpful. What I liked most was that he strictly emphasizes aftercare and follow-up and seems very rigid in that. I really appreciate that. On a scale from 1-10, having only met him once so far, would give him an 8. I would highly recommend him from my first meeting.
I went to one of Dr. Syn's seminars before I met him for the consult. At the appointment with him he had me meet with a dietician, he ran some basic tests and then met with me in his office. He seems to 'relax' in the chair and justs lets you ask/talk all you want. No time crunch, no interruptions,he brought up a few things I didn't think of and repeatedly asked if I had any questions or concerns. He answers straight forward. He is confident, very detailed and runs a tight, friendly office.
After surgery - checked on me frequently, all the nurses respect him and referred to him and his 'wants for' his patients. They seemed to know that they needed to meet his standards. There were four of his patients that day. He only does the surgery on Monday, everyone stays til Wednesday. He makes sure we all had a special bed, walkers, higher toilets etc. Wow. I had no worries and total confidence in him. I don't have anything negative to say at all, I honestly can't think of anything about him or his practice that caused concern.
dr syn is a wonderful dr, with only a 4" inscision, i am now out 3 weeks monday, so far so good, is office staff is really helpful, i would highly recommond, he will not do your surgery, unless you agree to see him for followup visits.he explained the risk of this surgery very well to me, i would highly recommend him, he is quick and to the point. no beating around the bush.
I really do like Dr. Syn. I don't like the wait list tho because i thought I would have gotten my paperwork sent off to the insurance company by now. I do love his office staff because they are very patient with me calling everyday and very helpful whenever i have questions. I am now just waiting for Dr. Syn to write the letter to the insurance company and them fax it to them.
