"A Real Person"

He makes you feel comfortable and tells it like it is.

Some of the office support people are real nice, most, but a couple make you feel like you are bothering them.

The doctors attend the monthly support meetings and are very candid about the information they give.

You have to go to nutritional classes and if your surgery is more that a couple of weeks away you have to go again to make sure you know what to do.

I am told by others who have had him for a doctor that he is very caring and checks on you often.

My first impression of Dr. Barba was that he was kind, and yet didn't pull any punches about the risks of such major surgery.
Like all of his patients, I didn't meet him alone until all of my pre-op appointments were completed. My husband came with me and we both had ample time to ask questions. I didn't feel rushed, and again, Dr.Barba's sort of soft and easy way came through. I felt very, very confident being in his hands; he seems unflappable. That, and his lengthy experience in both gastric bypass and emergency surgery set my mind at ease. He was very sweet when he stopped in to see me in the pre-op holding pen, and came by to see me three times post-op, even on Thanksgiving day.
Right now (Dec. 04)he is in the process of moving to a new office within the building, and doing some kind of seperation with the old office, I'm not really sure how that's working out. I have had two messages go unanswered at the new office, and I wasn't happy about that. I dont' blame him, I think he needs to get more office staff. ON a scale of 1-10, I'd give him a 10. No kidding.

My wife & I went to the first informational meeting and we were both convinced that this was the route to go. Not only did he not sugar coat the process, the entire screening process was very thorough. The office staff is very helpful and efficient. Impressed by the number of surgeries he has performed and the efficiency of all involved.

I really liked Dr Barba from the first time we met at the information session held at St Francis Gengras auditorium.
The office staff is nice but like lots of Dr's offices they are busy.
He has a good personality and is informative.
They stress this is only a tool and not a miracle you will be the one to make your outcome life lasting.

I initially went to an introductory meeting. It took two tries to get there. The first class filled up and they put me off to the second one. Dr. Barba was supposed to be my doctor. I saw him once before surgery, and on the day of surgery. Both he and Dr. Lorenzo performed my LAP surgery. Afterwards, I saw Dr. Lorenzo and Caroline. Thankfully, Rosemary and Laura are very good. My thoughts are that both Barba and Lorenzo are brilliant surgeons, but all the attention came from the girls in the office.

Dr. Barba is extremely personable and warm. He was eager to explain everything in great detail and his staff is very supportive. I have not yet gone for my pre-op appointment, but so far everyone has been willing to give me as much information as I felt necessary.

My first impression of Dr. Barba was that he seemed like a GREAT Dr who really cares about his patiants.

What I thought of him never changed. He's still very nice and caring.

The staff is great and everyone is know knowlegable and sweet.

He's not exactly on time. But aren't all Dr. like that? (LOL)

Future patients should know that they are going to a fantastic Dr. that will do everything in his power to help you out.

He emphasizes aftercare VERY strongly.

Yes, he does have a structured aftercare program.

He addressed the risks of surgery very clearly. He said that I'm a low candidate for any major complications.

I would rate him as a great person and Dr. from 1-10. IMO, he's an 11!

Dr. Barba is a wonderful doctor that truly cares about his patients. His office puts you through your paces to make sure you are both physically and mentally ready to make the commitment you are about to take on with WLS. He also makes sure you are very aware of all risks involved with this surgery. I am just going through the aftercare process, which at this point, seems to be adequate. If you are in the state of CT, or even MA, I would definitely consider visting his office and making him your surgeon of choice!

I was impressed with Dr. Barba from the very start. As time went on my respect for him only grew. His office staff is very efficient (they make all of your appointments for you) Once your tests are done your case if reviewed by this board of specialists if need be and surgery is either approved or denied. The office was going through some growing pains when I got my surgery but the most frustrating thing was the waiting for appointments etc., but Dr. Barba is the best, and I was willing to wait. Aftercare is definitely stressed. When you go in for your pre-op blood work they give you your follow up appointments for the next three months.
Dr Barba was very thorough about reviewing the risks and has an incredible bedside manner. He will spend as much time needed with you to be sure you have all of your questions answered. Dr. Barba is an outstanding surgeon and would not hesitate recommending him to anyone in the Hartford area considering WLS.
